Caf: we neglected midfield for so long, Glazers penny pinching, embarrassing

Also Caf: 100m for one the best midfielders around, the one our new manager wants to build the team around? Madness!
Why cant there be a normal middle way, i.e. buy good talented midfielders that do not cost stupid money that we just should mot spend? Other clubs do so too, it is us

I'm all for it, but who exactly? Neves would cost nearly as much, Tielemans is meh. I know nothing about Ruiz, Sangare seems a bit shit

Dont care, pay whatever it takes.

Think we waited too long, should have done this weeks ago. We were confident nobody would go in for him and could wait for Barca to pay up.

Matt Law has acted very quickly to confirm Chelsea’s interest in Auba… he’s still not tweeted about Frenkie

Think Chelsea are sniffing around for a fire sale, especially if Barca are finances are looking shaky even with the levers.

The fdj links are soft, but tier 1 still has to be respected so weary optimism is the go.

SkyBet:
Chelsea 6/5
United 7/4
Barca 5/2

Interesting. Personally I’d have flipped that, with Barca most likely and Chelsea least likely.

For me, Chelsea links to Frenkie were leaked by Barca to try and hurry us up. Now that abarca can't register all of their players, pretty sure they'll want this one wrapped up soon.

No idea mate, talking about the story in the tweet
Cheers! I had no reference until the tweet. Its a shortfall of 150million booked as their revenues. I am not sure what the calculus is from Tebas of La Liga's FFP, Revenue to Wage ratio.

But its not good news for Laporta. They may need the Palanca de Frenkie to make up for the shortfall.

This FdJ saga has more twists and turns within a 10week period than any soap opera in the history of television. All we are missing are incestuous relationships and murder but there are still 3 1/2weeks to go.... we can only live in hope.

I think there is interest there from Chelsea. So I don’t think Ornstein is wrong or anything, But I think he’s possibly been offered to them by Barca in the hope of a bidding war. I think if it came to that, we’d go higher than them, as we’re desperate

Don't think Chelsea will pay 100m for a player they don't need. We are desperate for a midfielder and I can see us paying that and moving few players to cover the difference.
Getting Ronaldo makes more sense than getting someone who is redundant there.

Bidding war is a little wrong, we’ve already agreed a deal with Barca. But yeah, they are pushing this in the hope we add “whatever it takes” to the initial fee to take the wage problem away.

If we wait, just as if Frenkie waits, they will buckle. But just look at this place yesterday shitting it’s collective pants about Chelsea, it’ll only ramp up during the season and I’m not sure the club have the balls to wait as long as it will take, which is likely late in the window.
We’ll go back and add another 7-10m to guaranteed fee I reckon.

Why do people post bookies odds every summer? They mean less than jack shit

Might as well put up a golden blunder’s probability chart.
It’s a way of gaging public perception of what’s going to happen from all the news etc.

I know they know as much as we do but it’s nice for someone to tell me how likely from the information that’s been made public.

They not be fighting in either this season.

They have massive holes in the squad after that summer
Technically everyone is fighting for the premier league.
Chelsea have no better chance at the PL than we do tbh.
They haven’t gotten within 19 points of a title in 6 years ”fighting” my ass.

If you don’t join Liverpool or City, you are clearly in a toss up for best worst.
All valid points from everyone never occurred to me that Chelsea have been that bad, except for when they won the CL. They have been struggling since then too. I guess this season will be the same for everyone especially us.

It's not your fault you know nothing about Ruiz, you're not hired by Man Utd to scout for talent.

We'll be investing millions in scouting every year and I don't know if the scouts are not being listened to, they're useless, or the club just has some misguided view that 'premier league proven' is the most important part of a scout report.

Fact is, there are 4-6 players out there on the continent that could be bought for ~150m that would turn us into title contenders, but we feel much more comfortable overpaying for Premier League players with obvious limitations beacuse... why?

I swear the FM team has a far more robust scouting network than we do and that's just embarrassing. Hell, even some of the posters on the caf appear to have a better eye for talent than Man Utd do

Barca legit might have to go into administration if the European Super League never takes off

Also this selling off of club assets to fund further splurging, and NOT pay off their long term debts or owed wages, is some of the most incredible financial decision making I've ever seen at this level.

They were in deep shit already after the financial mismanagement of the previous presidency + Covid shutdown and have now only doubled down on the same path that led them to near ruin seemingly banking off of the potential windfall that winning trophies and starting the ESL would bring.

No matter what happens, this period of their club history will surely be a case study in how not to run an multi-billion dollar institution in the future. Fully expecting courses to be taught on it in the future.
I can't wait for Amazon's "all or nothing" series. It quite literally is win it all or goodbye Barca.

Give me a good pair of binocs and I could spot some serious talent a hundred yards away.
Thats an expensive investment. I just need a pair of shades, preferably Ray-bans and I will be out in my coat in the fields scouting on teenage talents for United.

I get the complaints about our scouting, but isn't it the same for many big clubs? Which unexpected and brilliantly scouted player did Chelsea or City sign the last years? Seems to be a bit of a trap for big clubs, maybe thinking only the better known players are good enough/sure enough bets to make it at the top

It was awful back in the 2020 US election thread. Lots of people seemed to treat them like gospel and thus they were convinced Trump would win because, supposedly, bookies have access to tons of information the general public is not aware of.

The odds really only tell you how people are already betting (or have betted so far) so it’s only a measure of what gamblers think is most likely mixed with their perception of the value being offered in the bookmaker’s odds. With something like this, I’m not sure it tells us anything helpful, unless you want to place a bet.

Looking more and more like he will end up at Chelsea - the club some here were laughing at just a couple of weeks ago for not having done any deals... what a shower Laurel and Hardy at the helm of our club are

the club that only moved for Cucurella a few days ago after it became clear City weren't going to buy him. the club that have brought in four players in less than three weeks, including Sterling. the club that has moved out players they didn't want. Yes, that club
