Think this will do.

Any advice? toying with the idea of Alvarez instead of Haaland and upgrading one if the midfielders.

Ward / Sanchez
TAA, Cancelo, Dalot, Zinchenko (Williams)
Bailey, Salah, Neto (Andreas, Murphy)
Jesus, Haaland, Kane
3 premiums isn't worth it actually. That's 39 m. I would take one of them away and upgrade the mid.

Edit: Subbed douglas luiz for elanga.
Brave captain but could come up.
Big front 3, but at least you could easily do 2 transfers to bin anyone if needs be.
Dias better in defence than Ake.

Salah the huge risk.
If he scores 2 or 3 and people have him captained and you don't even have him at all, you could be wellied for a big amount.

I'm amazed how many people are going for the Leicester keepers, you're only saving 0.5 and I think theyre gonna ship goals.
Oh almost certainly. I'm mainly hoping for a few save points. Like I said though, clean sheets are always a bonus for any keeper £4.5m or below. Look at it like this, if Schmeichel had gone before the game was updated, one of those keepers would have been £4.5m. Most of us are early wildcarding and I'll probably go for Pope or Ramsdale when I rejig the team.

Cheers for your input. Where I'm at...

Rashford - might be worth a punt for the first couple of weeks. He's in the Martinelli spot in my team at the mo and I prefer us at home to Brighton over Arsenal away at Palace especially if I have Saka in the £8m mid slot. Think options will open up below his price point after the first few weeks anyway if you need to downgrade.
Perisic - I really think he could be this season's James. Will haul every few weeks and then get a bunch of 1's in between. Gut feeling is if he starts v Southampton he will haul.
Bailey - I think I'm kidding myself here and this is entirely based on that Bournemouth fixture. They look set to be the whipping boys this year and he's the cheapest way into that Villa attack after a good pre season and with Gerrard bigging him up. He is definitely gone though by GW4 so is it worth it?
Leicester GK's - I actually don't mind picking these to free up that £0.5m until the first wildcard. Could use it to turn Bailey into a £5.5m mid or start with the safer Trippier and turn him into Perisic if he's playing. Unless you're picking a £5m gk like Pope or Ramsdale I don't think any of the £4.5m ones are especially better.
Kane or Haaland - The big one. I did have a draft with both that I quite liked but I didn't like losing Robertson. Again, gut says Spurs start on fire at home and Kane is involved in the goals. We don't even know if Haaland will start though I'd be surprised if he didn't. Starting with Kane is almost certainly booking in the Haaland transfer in GW2 though so if doing that the rest of the team needs to have more solid picks.
I think we've had a lot of examples in recent years of big signings NOT hitting it big from the off.
So with Kane having such a good fixture, it seems lower risk, as West Ham away isn't an easy game to start in.

Ok at the moment then.

4m Leicester keepers
TAA Robertson Cancelo James Trippier
Salah (c) Rashford Martinelli (Andreas, Bailey)
Kane Jesus (Archer)

0.5m in the bank, which could be useful for a keeper, or moving one of Bailey, Andreas or Rashford up

Thoughts?

2 last doubts really
1)Does Diaz whack Fulham more than Robbo does - and is he a useful 8m place holder
2)Kane over Haaland for 1 week.

It's funny, years ago I used to always make the mistake of too much money in defence. But these days, the full backs are like wingers, so it's a different story.

This being on holiday malarkey really reduces the time I’d spend looking at teams so just spent an hour on it. Its a long one (insert Michael Scott catchphrase here)..

@Sandikan @Dirty Schwein @Moby @CassiusClaymore and any others.. welcome thoughts, tweaks, outright laughter, etc.

Option 1 £0.5m ITB

Ramsdale
TAA Cancelo Dias James
Salah Martinelli Bailey Maddison
Jesus Kane
(fodder)

Option 2 (shift two defenders, £0 ITB)

Ramsdale
TAA Cancelo Robertson Thiago
Salah Martinelli Bailey Maddison
Jesus Kane

Option 3 (no fwd premiums)

Meslier
TAA James Perisic Cancelo Trippier
Salah Diaz Son Martinelli
Jesus

Option 4 (threemium)

Meslier
James Cancelo TAA Cash Trippier
Bailey Son Salah Martinelli
Kane

Option 5 (threemium take two. No Cancelo)

Raya
James Walker TAA Dalot
Salah Dias Martinelli Neto
Haaland Kane

Option 6 (the Diaz/s twins)

Ramsdale
TAA Dias Robertson Cancelo
Salah Diaz Sancho Martinelli
Kane Jesus

(Walker (now Cucuracha has gone to Chelsea) and Zinchenko also possibles)

Thanks for any thoughts and ‘why’. Off to the bar :)
All those look like good teams, if I give my preference it will be basically be me telling why you should be going in with my team which isn't that useful for you, between those it comes down to what structure/risk you prefer.

Pope plays Liverpool and City in the first 5 games, which has ruled out pretty much any Newcastle player for me.
If you have Ward, when Newcastle play city, ward will have Soton. Then when they play pool, ward plays United. It can work. Also, Pope makes many saves in bigger games. I think he's the best 5.0 GK.
Gonna spend today tinkering with my team only to end up with exactly what it was at the start of the day.

Some questions I have....

Rashford worth a punt now that Martial is out and he'll most likely lead the line? - yes
Perisic too much of a gamble in GW1? (I love his potential ceiling though) - just wait as they have Chelsea gw2 so use the two games to assess.
Keep Bailey at a price point that leaves you not many places to go? - I funny think he's worth it being the first game.
Double Leicester gk until the first wildcard at least to free up cash? - nah. But it's not end of the world.
Kane or Haaland to start the season? - either. I'm going Haaland
Answered.
Thanks guys. You dont belive in Sancho or is it he might not play?
For 0.5 more they're are so many better options. He's not worth it. Rashy is better choice as he saves your a lot.

Yeah possibly that can work but I'd still go for Ramsdale as he has even better fixtures, plays in a much better defense compared to either Newcastle or Leicester and was an absolute save and bonus magnet last season. Pope won't get near the number of passes Ramsdale makes (his heat map is actually crazy, he's become even more of a sweeper keeper now) plus can't play in those Liv/City games anyway.

My team feels too templatey - its virtually identical to so many others.

Walker + Saka would be refreshing changes to Cancelo + Martinelli.

The latter though is much more sensible right? So I might as well keep as is.

Ugh ffs I'm wondering whether I should take out Darwin and find room for Haaland.

City's fixtures after West Ham look easy as shit. I could switch him for Kane in GW2 but I feel like Kane will have a good season too.

Too much money on the bench. Scrap Henderson & Luiz.

No Salah is suicide.

Robertson over Nunez by a country mile, and Diaz albeit to a lesser extent.
Brave captain but could come up.

Dias better in defence than Ake.

Salah the huge risk.

Im taking the gamble that salah won't be replicating his past performances and im hoping for atleast one of my front three to bang in goals every week.

Dipper clean sheet means easy 12 points minimum, if he gets in a goal or assist then thats better return on investment.

Ive replaced douglas with elanga.

City's run week 2 onwards does look scary doesn't it.
It seems a good percentage play to start Kane, bank the Southampton potential smashfest, then get on Haaland upon checking he's started and looked ok.

Do we think this midfield is too lacking?

Salah, Rashy, Martinelli, Bailey, Andreas?

Will be playing 5-3-2 most weeks, barring injury/rotations or Trippier having a tough away.

Yet there was only 5 points seperating them last year and one was in a relegation team... I think you're underestimating Pope.

Ramsdale is good too but I just don't want triple Arsenal to be honest.

Otherwise I would consider it more.

Do it, the rotation between Haaland, Salah and Kane for captain will last you at least 9 potentially profitable weeks. The holy threemium

Kane vs Son.
Kane has pens. Kane is cheaper. Kane is less likely to get subbed.

Son is a slightly better differential though. And also if people are all jumping off Kane to go Haaland in GW2 will he drop in price (Almost certainly if he doesn't score)?

Nah that's fine.

If you can just give any thoughts like "he's not worth it", "that structure prevents you doing X in week 2", that'd help.

(Ignore option 6)

My Team is *almost* locked.

I just want to pick the brains of the seasoned players like @Moby @CassiusClaymore @RDCR07 @Dirty Schwein etc .

Would any of you consider Son > Salah to be too big a risk? Son not being on pens is annoying but my thoughts is just the 0.5 cheapness + guaruntee that Spurs' attack will always involve him. Whereas with Liverpool I feel they have Nunez and I dont know to what extent his focal point takes away from Salah.

Here's my *almost* locked team:

feedback welcome and appreciated as always.

Ward over Raya since Leicester at home..
This season over any other season you *could* get away with no Salah but I wouldn’t go that route. Every weekend you play without him is going to be torture and their first 7-8 games are pretty easy by their standards. Your team otherwise looks good and very templated.

Thanks - I hate the bold bit though, as its true :(. I know template is template for a reason but FPL is also enjoyable when you punt here and there

The last season totals are down to half a season of Arsenal starting absolute jobbers like Tavares, Cedric etc as fullbacks and that's when Ramsdale started blanking. The first half of the season he was easily the best keeper in the game and was hauling 8-10 points for fun so you have to look who is actually playing in front of him which right now is actually better than what he had even during first half of last season. And in the end you play the fixtures, Arsenal fixtures are just far better than Newecastle anyway. Those GW3-4 games look like easy cleanies at least with a few more either side. And Newcastle actually are the ones with injuries in defensive positions - Shelvey who is their DM is out, Botman possibly out as well.

I love when people use the word "template" as if it's a negative.
It's the template because it's a great plan generally!
This is how templates emerge as seasons go!

Fairly sure for me it's either the Threemium draft or a more boring 4-4-2

Iversen/Ward
TAA Walker Trippier James
Salah Rashford Bailey
Haaland Kane Jesus

v

Ramsdale
TAA Cancelo Trippier Robertson
Salah Martinelli Bailey Mount
Kane Jesus

First one gets my juices flowing more.
