We’ve apparently thrown in a fresh bid of over £70m in for Fofana and will bid again after this if it fails.

Anyone who thinks we’ll then also spend 80m on De Jong is mad.

So at what point do United say enough is enough then? Because the club still seems to feel confident, well as of yesterday anyway.

If what's being reported is true then I think the club needs to step in and say we're done. Otherwise they're going to pay a heavy cost in fan image
At this stage I'm becoming quite pessimistic about it all but I still think that the club might make a final push for him if Chelsea do decide to bid. It wouldn't be ideal but I could see us offering wages that are astronomical to try to tempt him. Considering how important Ten Hag seems to regard him, I imagine we will pull out all the stops to at least attempt to convince him. (Although if he is dead set on playing in the Champions League, living in London, or both then that might not do much good.)

Deepthroating information to Howard Nurse.
He's good
It’s not based on information from United though. He’s just reading what the rest of us are seeing - Chelsea are in talks for FDJ, he wants CL and prefers London. If he’d got the info that he’s going to Chelsea from the club it wouldn’t be buried in an article on something else.

Edit - Sorry thought you were talking about Hirst

What’s with this Harry Redknapp related update? That man didn’t even know who he was going to sign till the last week of the window.

lets see if they do that, because it's the exact thing that all the sources were reporting that this new regime didnt want to do.

If he is going to Chelsea, do you think we would still be waiting ? We would have moved to other targets or a leak would have come by now that we aren't proceeding with any backups.

To be fair, Chelsea have Champions League, London, money and are ahead of us on all levels right now. So, aside from ETH, why would he choose us at the moment? We’ve nobody else to blame for that predicament but ourselves (ie our owners, our staff, our players). Realistically, we shouldn’t be in a position this summer to attract the world’s best players, it’s sad but a true view of where we currently are. Hopefully that won’t be the case in a year’s time.

How shit would it be for him to join Chelsea from Barca. Most shitty career move possible. While United is not in the CL this year, it’s a no brainer.

He is probably just doing what his gf wants and yeah, he definitely should not.

That said, I think it’s all bullshit. We will get him in the end.
I don't know about “shitty career move". You can argue it's a step down in terms of history but I don't know of a single player who's moved from Barcelona to Chelsea and regretted. Every single one actually as to win something big with us before moving on. Of the top of my head Fabregas, Pedro, Bosingwa, Belletti, Deco. All either won a CL, PL or FA Cup.

I was entirely wrong in thinking Chelsea wouldn't actually be interested in him (although I have yet to be completely wrong in thinking they won't actually bid until we pull out), so it's not beyond the bounds of reason that I'm entirely wrong again here!

No realism here, please... we're either muppets, lapsed muppets or muppets-in-training, none of whom need any pesky logic waffling around!

Agreed, would be a weird move for a guy that simply hasn’t found his Ajax form since leaving 3 years back. Nor playing in his preferred position.

Think he’ll end up divorcing his missus in 4 years if he does this for her

Chasing a player throughout the course of the transfer window and losing out would be pretty darn embarrassing for the club ,whichever way you put it.

4 months pursuing a player who is basically begging to stay at his club.

Quite possibly the most shambolic, embarrassing transfer chase of all time.

Said it before and I'll say it again, Chelsea are perhaps the most boring of the big clubs. Absolutely nothing special about them. (And yes, I am salty)

True, they are counted as new signings...very funny
I mentioned it at the time, they took massive risks when they didn't extend them before June 30th. I somehow hoped that I missed something the FFP rules but apparently not.

All of this nonsense about it being "embarrassing" only holds any water if you pay any heed to the general opinion of Reddit and Twitter.

Once a club of good stature ,and one that's been relatively successful in the past few years, showed their interest it was always going to be a upward struggle.
United can't offer any decent amount success anytime soon.

A successful season for United, in its current state, is top 4 and maybe the league cup.
