They only needed the 4th lever to register new signings right?

i think you're dreaming. United is not attractive for any top player. Hell, some mid level players are turning us down for Ajax.

There is not a single reason for FDJ to choose us over Chelsea.

Chelsea - Champions league football every season. Willing to spend whatever it takes. Team full of top players. Fantastic manager, high wages. Run as a football club. Lives in London.

Man United - Struggling team. Documented problems all over the media. Won't get top 4. No champions league football, and unlikely to get it any time soon. Run as a business. See's players like Ronaldo join and want to leave a season later. Only plus is ETH has worked with him before.

Hell, i'd say if you're a player then spurs are a more attractive proposition than us. Let alone Chelsea.

There are plenty of reasons.

United are still a bigger club. We have more fans, more money, more history, more exposure. Remember United have still won the most English league titles and Chelsea were not much before they sold there soul to an oil baron.

He is guaranteed to start at United.

United have more to gain than Chelsea from performing, as we can sell him the dream of helping get United back to where we belong.

United have better fans.

We can afford to to pay him more.

He gets to play with one of the greatest players of all time. How many players at club level can say they played with both Messi and Cristiano.

Gets to play with ETH and Donny again. Little Ajax reunion.

We just signed Ronaldo, Sancho and Varane last year. This post is 99 percent you projecting onto the club

There’s plenty of reasons it just depends how deep you want to look.

Chelsea aren’t particularly stable at the moment themselves although what they do have is the fact Tuchel has been at the club a lot longer than Ten Hag.

The key difference is CL football.

If a player buys in to what United under Ten Hag want to do then why not. If they don’t then fair enough we look at someone else.

Looks like this saga will be going on till the end of the window. Are United really going to hold signing alternatives in hopes that De Jong decides to leave? That seems kinda risky isn't it?

They’ve definitely got a plan to dissolve the club in a couple of years and launch Barcelona Phoenix
Yes I'd love to see the fine print of these Levers - it wouldn't surprise me if they tried to claim these long term image rights only apply to La Liga and that some future iteration / compromise on Super League isn't covered by them. The sums of money involved for the long term (20 years plus?) loss of revenue is beyond suicidal investment or a gamblers desperation. I'm sure they must be pinning their hopes on some sort of loophole.

The links to chelsea just illustrate how important it is to get into the UCL each year.

If the roles were reversed and we made top 4 and Chelsea didn’t, they wouldn’t even be in the conversation.

Are Barca hedging their bets on a Super League coming to fruition, possibly the only way they can pay back these ‘levers’ without going bust?

Yep. Shame our current players didn’t have the hunger and desire to get in the CL for this season. Once again it was totally within our grasp in truth.

Not sure. It was reported last night that it would be very difficult to register everybody but I don't know if that changes now
From what I saw on all the insights, they needed the fourth lever and theyd be fine.

Honestly I think you guys are looking at this from fan's perspective. Which is understandable, obviously i'd love him to sign for us.

But to address the above. It really doesn't matter to players that we are a bigger club globally. They don't care. They really don't care about our history. They care about what other clubs can offer them in terms of being successful. No one is signing for city or chelsea because of their history, yet they can attract the best players in the world. We can offer money, and that's it. And overpaying players is part of the reason we're in the trouble we're in now. If players actually cared about club history then we'd be able to sign the top players in world football. The only reason we even have a sniff at FDJ is because of ETH. There's not a single other top player in world football that wants to join us right now. Otherwise we'd be all over them.

Again, the dream of helping united get back where they belong. As above, i'm afraid that's just absolute nonsense. No player is giving up seasons of CL football and trophies for a pipe dream he doesn't share.

Playing with Ronaldo? The guy wants to leave. Hardly motivation to join.

Gets to play with Donny again? Come on... These are all just clutching at straws, look I support United as much as the next person but some of you really need to wake up and live in the real world.

Correct if our name wasn't Manchester United, and his agent didn't already have many high profile names with the club, then we would have been already disregarded without Champions League football.

He will still likely join Chelsea in my opinion IF he leaves.. Let's see what this 4th lever does. If they manage to register all their names and complete Alonso, there is every chance they could leave their transfer activity there, and not do the Bernardo deal.. If they can't do all that with the 4th lever, then they still have to sell Frenkie or get significant wage reduction from him. It's not over but at this stage it's not likely either..

Barca have become one big desperate car boot sale. They’ll sell anything at this point to raise some funds. What a sad little club.
It's very short-termist, what happens next window when they're skint and didn't win anything? It's not a guarantee that everything will click and they'll start winning trophies.

They've sold themselves for the next years just for one big window, huge risk.

My god when you hear the pros for joining Utd it really is grim reading.

He is guaranteed to start at United. - Because we're not very good. He'd also start every game at Norwich
United have more to gain than Chelsea from performing - Same as reply number 1
United have better fans- Maybe agree but Chelsea fans wouldn't
We can afford to to pay him more. - I thin both clubs would pay silly money
He gets to play with one of the greatest players of all time. How many players at club level can say they played with both Messi and Cristiano.- Who wants to leave and will likely only be here for the next 3weeks to 1 year.

We need to face reality that we are not an attractive destination for top players anymore. That's not to say we can't attract good players or young talented players looking to make the step up.

Until we start winning leagues again, we need to accept this.

"players in that position perform really well". Strap in for more McFred if we don't sign De Jong.

Chelsea haven't won the league in 5 years, 6 when they don't this year. They fluked the CL 2 seasons ago but I doubt they will go far this year and won't win the PL, so what do they really have to offer that United don't?

Mental situation. Waiting till a day before their season begins to sell even more future tv rights to register new players whilst they continue to try and sign more players. Fecking bonkers. How the footballing authorities allow for this is beyond me.

You should tell that to the Rangnites who insisted missing out on top 4 would be better in the long run for us.

Sorry, but you don't fluke a trophy by setting several defensive records along the way. There was not one fluke win in that run, it was a dominate showing.

Yeah you guys really crushed Rennes, Krasnodar, and Porto along the way with your stalwart defense..

It was handed to us about 10 times and we kept saying “No thank you, not for us”.

They should announce the activation of their levers with a gif of Laporta switching gears like Dominic Toretto

Thank you for proving my point, he literally shaked his head no, said he wouldn’t discuss players under contract at other clubs and that they would only sign the right players. That the British press is trying to spin it as “it’s FDJ or nothing” is not ETH’s or the club’s fault.

It has nothing to do with current status or previous performance. If we had CL , he would have joined us. Basically, if the situation is reversed he would have joined us despite us not winning titles for a very long time.
