No player is bigger than the club. Ever. feck him off. We aren't PSG who sell their sole to keep a player
That seems like a cheap price honestly
I'm reminded of mobs screeching "Burn the witch"!
Those people must be liverpool fans!
The song In the air tonight is nearly 5 minutes in length. Ronaldo can only stay in the air for 3 minutes when he jumps. Further proof that Phil Collins is greater than Ronaldo
SCIENCE!

I'm of the opinion that getting rid of him has the biggest chance to have a sharp turnaround at this point in time. All the noise about how he's dragging the mood down - you'd expect a burst from the players to actually show that the second he left. We need a jolt of some kind and I don't think any signing would do enough in that regards, it has to be with some exits, mainly this one.
Seriously, what awful thing has he done to his teammates, do you think?
I'm thinking it's making them feel bad about eating pudding for dessert, and they want to get back to that.

You are arguing we should keeping him because he is famous and insinuating that he is bigger than the club. I call that a mare.
I have literally said multiple times I want him gone. I think he is not very good anymore and him being famous doesn't help us (might help the Glazers earn a few quid). I have literally never even insinuated we should keep him and would let him go even if we didn't sign a replacement.

I would call talking about something without actually reading the posts beforehand a mare.

I am purely arguing the fact that he is extremely famous because it is a fact and people have reacted very weirdly to that statement.

More people in the world know who Cristiano Ronaldo is than Manchester United. By most metrics he is the most famous person in the world.
My mum who is not a fan of football knows Cristiano Ronaldo. The Brazilian one with funny hairstyle she said.
So you're right. Almost everyone knows Ronaldo. But that doesn't mean they refer to the same Ronaldo.

Those you named? globally? Yes easily. The fact that you would even suggest that George Clooney is more famous than Ronaldo globally at this point is staggering to me.

Will Smith has hit levels of attention he hasn't reached in a long time in the last few months through infamy but consistently over the last 5 years no chance.
He isn't more famous than Tom Cruise.

That massive gorilla that plays drums on the song is top notch too

How's this thread turned into an argument over if Ronaldo is the most famous person in the world or not!?

Huh?

He is one of the best players of all time. A lot of people debate if Jordan was the best.
What are you even saying at this point? There's a much bigger consensus that says Jordan was the best basketballer of all time than there is about Ronaldo being the best footballer..

Come on, it's not an outrageous thing to suggest Ronaldo is the most famous person in the world. He's up there.

That Ronaldo is one of if not the most famous people in the world.

Literally the same thing I have been saying the entire time without a single person providing a single argument of substance and just getting upset for god knows what reason.

It's PR misdirection from the club. I'm annoyed seeing this thread constantly at the top of the cafe instead of ones about incoming transfers.

I mean, it's working to get even me engaged despite my objection to it. Effective emotional manipulation

When will we realise that nobody will touch him if we want money too? If we want rid, we're going to have to bite the bullet.
There are two big problems, we probably need to pay him to leave and Joel Glazer will probably refuse to sanction that kind of move anyway.

So you think that Cristiano Ronaldo is more famous across generations and cultures than Tom Cruise, Will Smith, George Clooney, Brad Pitt and many others? One massive difference between these people and Ronaldo is that their fame is across more generations, all genders and almost all cultures.
The Rock would surely be more famous then those above, famous star who embraces social media and has fame from wrestling too.

Just a shame being famous doesn't equate to a fountain of youth and being able to play like you are still in your 20s.

You just made a point about who out of the two is regarded as being the best in their respective sports and said it was Ronaldo over Jordan. That's complete baloney.

I have no idea who that is.

Ronaldo is bigger in pop culture than Man Utd and probably any football club honestly. He is a self entitled prick and not that good anymore but he is massively famous and influential.
Basically mate you speak a load of shit and if Redcafe had reactions you'd be getting alot of dislikes for your opinions.

Ain't that right Keith @The Firestarter

He is. What you guys are failing to acknowledge is that Ronaldo’s fame stretches across the globe to even the poorest and most pulverised nations. People in the most desolate and poverty stricken places in countries like Burma, Sierre Leone, etc where they would have had almost no exposure to Hollywood are far more likely to have heard of/know Ronaldo than someone like Tom Cruise.

So yeah Tom Cruise is probably more famous in America but I severely doubt he’s as known as Ronaldo on the planet as an entity.

I would say Putin is probably the most famous/infamous man alive today. Most of the almost 3 billion pops in China and India knows him, some worships him. Probably everyone except infants in the western world knows him as well

No. He is more famous among younger generations but that's about it. Wrestling isn't popular in most places and people over 40 are still alive.

No, I didn't. That literally never happened.

This is the same as the other poster saying I am arguing to keep him because he's famous.

If it helps you, I believe a lot more people believe Jordan is the best of all time in his sport than those that believe Ronaldo is in his. I also don't think that really matters and in 20 years time if a really well shot documentary with a bunch of behind the scenes footage of Ronaldo's career and his involvement is released then it will get huge attention.

You believe George Clooney is more famous than Dwayne Johnson? In 2022?

This is like the twilight zone

It’s not just generations though. People in poorer countries are more likely to have heard of footballers than movie stars - especially given that football is by far the most popular sport on earth. All the generations you’re mentioning are to an audience mostly based in the best western world.

I'll say Putin, Beyonce, Queen Elizabeth, Justin Beiber and Barack Obama are above Ronaldo. Ronaldo is very popular more so than Manchester united but he isn't the most popular human, no chance!

I would argue with The Queen, Beiber and Obama.

In fact Trump is more famous than Obama (probably says something about the internet but I won't get into that). The Queen is interesting because it's a position as well as a person. Anyway that is definitely a more current list than George Clooney and Phil Collins so wouldn't argue too much.

I'll give you a fairly simple example in french speaking Africa, on TV you have/had access to foreign games mainly through Canal Horizon which is the same package that gives you access to american movies and TV shows. So here the key point becomes the timeframe. Then it's also worth mentioning that in Africa people have VHS, DVDs and USB of movies and they watch them a lot.

Some of you are acting as if poorer counties are culturally detached from the west, that's completely wrong.
