There is a time to be firm and another time when the team is desperate for reinforcements and specifically, defensive mids, after getting battered 4-0 to a bottom half club, where you just fecking get the players the manager wants and needs.
We can't keep caving in because of desperation. We have to break the cycle and get the wage bill to a level that reflects the quality of the squad

Caf: Don't fecking sign Rabiot he'll be on expensive wages and will be deadwood for the next manager.

Also Caf: Just pay the money, Ten Hag is not being backed, We can't make signings!!!

Its questionable enough transfer as is at an "acceptable" wage, if they are looking for top earner status then this has to be a no go simply.

He's better than Rabiot for a start. If it's a choice between £20m for Rabiot, and giving him over £200k a week so he can keep his desired post tax pay, and Laimer then I'm taking Laimer.
Until he gets here and your cussing the club for buying an Austrian Robbie Savage who can’t displace McFred.

Only at United though. What happened to Haidara? No one want him anymore.

There has to be another option to this guy thats young and willing to take less?
The fee was already bad, but now he wants high wages?

Hint at reducing the wage bill - get rid of 500k a week Ronaldo. We also lost mata/Cavani/Pogba/Lingard among others. And a 25% drop due to no CL. Yeah we can't just spend recklessly, but surely we have to be able to convince some players to join.

You can convince players to join but there is a context to it. Young players that are currently on small contracts will be interested because the club can offer them playing time and a wage increase, players that around their prime age can only really be convinced by money because we can't guarantee what they want which is success, we don't have a strong enough team to bamboozle them, older players are also only likely to sign for more money than the "market" would give.

To be frank I'd rather see Garner crash and burn than pay Rabiot £7m after tax, just so he can be a little bit better than McTominay. £7m after tax should be doing to a player who's best days are ahead of them. That ain't Rabiot.

Unfortunately that would ideally mean preparing and planning and when you screw that up you are left in a desperate scenario. Which is where we are.

You couldn’t make it up….well you could.

The money for FDJ was always there but couldn’t get the deal done…..yeah right

This clown wants too much….how fecking convenient. As if the club wouldn’t know how much he’d want before agreeing a deal for the player - clubs don’t go full on bid mode unless agent/player gives a solid indication and wage demand.

Another made up transfer to keep us onboard the new United regime. These transfers were never going to happen, nor will any more this window.

Part of me is delighted. But part of me is also deeply concerned that we'll lurch to another incredibly underwhelming option. Or worse, miss out on a midfielder entirely.

Good that we're not paying him stupid money, shame that we'll just end up pissing it away on Rashford's new mega deal.

If we thought Rabiot and Arnautovic were the desperation options, cant wait to see what comes next.

I was one the few that was happy with the signing but i'm glad to see the club didn't give in to the wage demands.

Can't even bring Rabiot in ffs. No idea how the actual negotiations went, all I know is that we are having arguably the worst ever transfer window and I wouldn't blame the manager for walking (the first top manager we've had post Sir Alex).
