Gaz. Is a Mewling Quim.
God help us all, if this is what people actually believe, than there is no future for the human race.

Musk is a fraud and a bully, not to me mention a racist piece of shit (google Tesla working conditions).

Also he's not as rich as people think, mostly it's paper money, and if he is forced to buy Twitter, if he looses the law suit, then he will be in a world of trouble, as his Tesla stock is heavily leveraged already.

Also, he's not an engineer, has no relevant tech patents and didn't invent a single thing, not at PayPal, not at Tesla, nor SpaceX.

Anyone who believes he is some kind of genius savior, is a ****, plain and simple.
One thing you have to give him some kind of credit for, mind, is that he uses his massive inherited wealth to get the crème de La crème of whatever field he gets himself involved in. Hence the likes of Tesla and SpaceX being workable.

I mean this ain’t happening and the guy is a gigantic bellend, but his engineers have done some very impressive things, they just look disappointing because he overpromises.

The guy gets a million messages a day to buy United, which is why he said that, he's joking we all know that. HOWEVER, I actively trade the stock market on a daily basis and here's what happened yesterday:

Man Utd get's 0 options activity because the stock never moves but yesterday lunch time it got 450k in volume on it's options:

This picture shows that someone with a lot of money thinks the stock price is going to at least $14, from the $12.63 it is now.

That's a 3500% increase in volume.

This all happened before Musk sent out that Tweet so the conclusion is that someone knows something is going on at United or Musk is manipulating the market to make some lunch money.

Doesn't change the fact he is also a massive bellend
He absolutely is, but he would still be a massive improvement over the Glazers. Its all about PR with him, so he would absolutely throw money at the club to make sure he could be seen as the big saviour of the club. And he is still a much better option than the saudis.

I dont like him, but no one with the money to buy us is going to be a saint.

He's an ego maniac, and you would have to take the good with the bad. He'll put quality people in all the positions we need them, he'll re invest in the clubs infrastructure and we'll have money to spend. His personality means he won't accept anything other than constant success.

The down side is when he goes on twitter after a loss and calls Klopp a paedo or something equally mental. There will be plenty of times he will make United fans cringe.

As for whether he will, I think its more likely now than before. He may have been joking, but he'll wake up to every sports channel talking about him, lots of old media talking about him, and social media going mad. Even if he was joking, this is a man who lives for attention, today will be like Christmas morning for him. It will definitely plant a seed of "Maybe I should buy them".

Right after the Cybertruck, Semi, and Roadster come out. Still waiting for that self driving that can drive a car from LA to New York too.

This guy's a complete BSer. Nothing he says is worth believing.
In fairness, while extremely weird, and gifted with an enigmatic sense of humor… the man has the only uninterruptible communications system in the world in Starlink, and has revolutionized access to space with re-landable rocket systems.

A lot of his other projects ARE jokes, but not without purpose.

Think, what did he do by entering a purchase agreement for Twitter? He made them contractually obligated to reveal all their bots, algorithms and secrets to him; the very secrets they refused to share with him just a few years before when he made a public call for transparency. And since the very nature of their business strategy involves lying about their actual user numbers, he had a back door out of the deal…. And ended up with the information he wanted all along, for free.

So, does he BS? Yes. Nothing but a complete BS’r? No.

I have seen talk of institutions being willing to test the Glazers' appetite to keep going.

Only Joel and Avram seem that keen to remain involved with Man Utd. The rest of the family doesn't seem to care. If an offer does come it'd be interesting to see how it's received.

I doubt that the next owner will be that benevolent. However, at the very least, they will probably try to get some senior level hires in who can get the business back on track.

So he said it was a joke yet they’ve still asked the club to comment? Jesus Christ
That's journalism for ya.

(To be fair this might be a bit justified considering the upheaval at the club currently so maybe worth asking for a comment)

United is ultra popular in South Africa, so that may be very true..
Because he grew up in South Africa. Afaik football is popular there but mostly for the colour people. For the rest it is cricket and rugby. Plus he was born in 1971. When he was 10-15 yo it's the 1981- 1986 I don't think we're that popular there especially there was no Internet and the PL was not internationally broadcasted back then. And it's not like we won a lot of things around that period either I think. We're talking about a time 40 years ago.

Fair enough. He does nothing other than posting attention seeking nonsense. This is no different.

He is the king of market manipulation. Be it bitcoin, a shitcoin like doge or his very own company:

Ok I see. Thanks.

Musk also has plenty of money to revamp the stadium, training grounds and buy every top player in the world and best football minds to run the club, if he wanted to. Why I don't believe this will happen is that football clubs are generally not very profitable businesses. They are owned by the small fry rich people (such as Glazers) or shady figures looking to "clean" their image such as City or PSG owners. Musk buying a club would be highly unusual since he has no need of it. It won't generate him any great profit and he doesn't need it as a "washing machine" like the Abu Dhabi owners do, or Abramovhich before them.

Only reason I might see this happen is it'll give lots of exposure to Tesla and Musk's vanity over having millions of United fans supporting him. United can be a good walking ad for Tesla and his other companies, that's for sure. I don't know, he might appreciate having millions of white knights at his disposal. That's a power of its own and when you're that rich, supporters start becoming more valuable currency than pure money. At any rate, as I said, it's too good to be true.
Anyway as expected this turned out to be a trolling attempt on his part but yeah we could certainly prove to be a decent pr machine for his company knowing the large exposure we receive.

Nevertheless there seems to be some unrest at the club so let's see what happens.

The thing is with sports teams in America for the uber rich, it's a status symbol. They're are only a few NFL and NBA teams and they're already owned and won't be up for sale any time soon. It's also pretty clear that even if you spend a tonne of cash on a sports team today, you can sell them in 10 years time for most likely double what you paid, that's a great investment at any point.

It was a joke but god it would be brilliant if he did buy us. Say what you like about the guy, but he knows how to run a company and he doesn't mind investing heavily in it until it's a success.

Yep should really be locked as it’s not constructive in the scheme of things. There are some good and potentially valuable discussions going on about changing our ownership in other threads which warrant more attention.
Lighten up. In terms of reliability, Musk's tweet is the most reliable mention of a change in ownership, even as a joke. The discussions you are talking about are centered around tweets by Tier 10 sources. I could tell you a Nigerian prince is looking to buy Manchester United and the credibility would be about the same.

Besides, discussions on forums have no objective value besides the satisfaction of saying "I told you so" later on.

Ok I see. Thanks.
Gary Bailey was pretty popular in SA. United have long been but there, regardless of colour.

The fact he said this means its a scenario he's already thought of. Despite him saying its a joke, it could signify he's not 100% opposed to it and just needs some persuasion.

Let's persuade him

Ah, the classic “I’m buying Manchester United you’re welcome” internet gag. A meme as old as time.
