Selling your DM after winning the CL and having Ancelotti as the manager is giving me bad flashbacks.

Indeed. Our next Schweinsteiger. We are the biggest morons in football.
Not at all. Schweinsteiger was ravaged with injuries and didn't perform for Bayern in the season before joining us. There were big red flags around him.

Casemiro is still a top player who is performing at the highest level for Real, with no signs of abating. He probably has another 3/4 good years left in him tbh.

What worries me about Casemiro isn't his age, but his playing style. He's a great anchor DMF, but Ten Hag's ideal in that position would typically be a deep lying playmaker - a Busquets/Alonso/Kimmich/Rodri type player. Casemiro is like Fabinho and more suited to teams that play a more direct style rather than a possession based one.

But I guess we don't live in a perfect world, and Casemiro would be a massive upgrade in that area of the pitch for us, irrespective of him not being the perfect ETH defensive midfielder.

This just seems ridiculously far-fetched, even less likely than FDJ.

Best case scenario we end up with a declining 30 year old on £400k a week.

It shows that we literally have no scouting department at all. It's horrifying.
This is a myth that needs to die seriously.

We have given most of the transfer resposibility to the manager - as in identifying targets this year.

Next summer will be more of a collaborative effort between our scouts, Murtough and EtH.

Why? Because we sacked our head scouts at the beginning of the window which most fans were happy about!

In defense of Casemiro's sale from a Real Madrid perspective:

- Tchouameni, Camavinga and Alaba can play as DM.

Against:

- He's too fecking good on his day.

I am undecided to be honest.

That's just wishful thinking on your part. For years now we've made awful transfer decisions.

Why would you give sole transfer responsibility to a manager who is used to working in a defined setup like Ajax have? That's mental.

Alright, let's say Ten Hag does have transfer autonomy... the club have failed him miserably. Miserably.

I would assume it's because he has a set way to play and he knows the types of players that would fit his system. So is identifying players based off that. When the club have had a year with him, they'll know who to sign after working with him for a while. So it would then become more of a collaborative effort.

I think there is some substance to these rumours.
Most teams will be open to selling players who are older than 30 years for the right price, however good that player be.

You'll be fine and he'll be another Schweinsteiger for us. We always get the rough end of these deals.

Init. Robben and Wesley says hi.
Back in 09/10 though which was a long time ago. No idea if they regret any recent sales but in more recent years Hakimi is the one that stands. The likes of Odegaard, Kovacic, Llorente have left and done fine at their respective clubs but I doubt Madrid wish they didn't sell them.

A manager who has no experience of player recruitment in the past or analytics because Overmars managed all of that for him at Ajax. And consequently is wanting to sign any player who he's ever managed and/or a CL winner he watched in the CL final. Elite transfer strategy

Sneijder was never that great. They were right to sell him, especially since his prime didn't really last long.
He was great after he left and that's my point

so basically another player who has zero incentive to come and play for us unless we pay silly wages.... or am I overlooking the thrill of moving to Manchester over Madrid? This one is as much of a non-starter as FDJ

Brilliant player but probably past his prime. Fast becoming a retirement home for Real Madrid players. These deals never work out. He won’t have the same impact here and doubt he can play every game. I guess we are desperate. His experience will help.

At the very least if he has a Matic style impact, he can shield the defence well enough to make Varane look like his old self again and create a semblance of resale value for Maguire.
