However, the contract will be heavily incentivised, so this season, he may not necessarily be earning up to that amount.
Yeah probably not or it would be a one of for a season in the EL. Given we're in the EL DDG won't be earning his full £350k either.

how anyone can put Rashford in possible 11s is beyond me

martial LW if we have to and Ronaldo up top
Ronaldo can feck off out of the club.

So with that in mind, we have nobody else. Though from our first 2 games, I'd say rashford has been the least bad player out of our front 4. Still bad... Just not as bad as Sancho, Ronaldo, Bruno, false 9 Eriksen, etc.

It seems Madrid don't like to stand in the way of players wanting to leave especially the veteran players that have given their all for the club. Madrid were desperate to keep Varane last summer and offered him a lot but Varane wanted a new challenge and Madrid respected his wishes. Same is happening with Casemiro.
Must be very confident he'll be starting in world cup to do this move now rather than January or next summer.

Of course he's automatic currently but a few injuries/struggling to get going in dysfunctional team and Fabinho may get ahead of him in pecking order perhaps?

That will certainly be priority for Brazil players over next few months to get 100% for that.

Really need a winger to compete with them, either to give them a kick up the ass or bench them when they're out of form. I know both of them have talent where they could be very good players, but they've been so far off it. Antony would have been nice, but anyway. Id take a loan even.
Seeing as we are shopping in Madrid, Vinicius next up then?

Expect Modric to follow next year and Kroos in 2024?

I feel like there’s some extraordinarily high and very specific standards from some fans, like every transfer has got to be some 20-26 year old top performer with amazing stats who’s playing for modest wages at a club that’s not elite tier.

If he’s older than 28, that’s too old and we’re too short term.
If he’s playing for a similarly sized or statured club to United, that’s clearly a cast off buy.
If he’s already getting lots of money with his existing club, that‘s a mercenary mentality.

Watching the TV or is it watching me
I mean Fernandinho was still playing plenty last year at 36/7 don't know why some are losing their mind on this.

Also happy to admit yesterday I thought we were out of our mind trying to do this deal but it looks like it'll come off.

Also Chelsea just paid 41 mill for a defender with significantly less pedigree than Casemiro no one blinked an eye

He and Fred also have a chance to lock themselves in as starters should they perform well together.

This made me feel better. Wins the ball more than anyone when he presses and can't shoot, but we're not Madrid and are worse at the back so doubt he'll get up the pitch as much to shoot poorly but if he can press brilliantly still, should have at least a couple of years where he's still athletic enough to be a solid #6.

Also while Fred still starting over Bruno Guimares makes me less sure the Brazil manager has his midfield picked right, the fact that he's a solid starter over Fabinho is a good sign.

They think it's a game of FM and can buy any player at any time

I have mixed feeling s about this one.

He's 30. Not too old but still a couple of years older than Matic when he signed. Matic was done after his first few months. Real Madrid may have played a blinder here.

On the other hand; Madrid have the two young french boys to replace him and may have found the money too good to refuse.

We have needed a holding midfielder since 3 months into Matic's stint so I'm glad we're finally addressing that.

I think he will get the best out of Fred and McT who both would both be better paired with a sitter (although I'd still like a fdj baller type to be brought in). He would also be good protection for Martinez who I think will be our main ball progressor from deep and has played with Varane and Ronaldo, so that could aid his settling in.

He can pick up his partnership with Fred at club level

Yeah this is done, and an excellent signing.

But cannot let this distract us from the big issue at hand - removal of the Glazer family.

He's a completely different player to De Jong who was Ten hag's number one target, surely we still need someone who can dictate the game? Am I missing something?
I think Casemiro will do the protecting and Eriksen will be the dictator of play.

I’ve not really paid much attention to Casemiro when I’ve watched Madrid, which isn’t much more than the odd classico or CL game. But, does he offer much other than tackling?
Defensively think he's good positionally, makes good interceptions and is generally good at pressing the opposition. He's better on the ball than what we have in midfield but my impression is that he's probably not the prototype DM ETH would have in playing out from the back and progressing play.

Will we go after all of Real Madrid's 3 peat CL team one after the other in the hope or replicating their success? Who's next?

Was amazing in the CL final and certainly dosen't seem broken.

Amazed Madrid are letting him go. I know they have the young French lads to give more game time to but I assumed they'd rotate with Modric and Kroos more.

Amongst the carcass I think this is an amazing fit for you guys as the DM, certainly better option than putting De Jong as a 6.

Mind you I said all this about Varane 12 months ago.....
It's a great signing, and I'm excited, but it still doesn't really solve our midfield issue, which is that no one can play out from the back, or have composure on the ball in deep areas, and can turn or play passes to beat the press. Now Casemiro is definitely better at those things than Fred or McTominay, but it's not what he excels at.

Bottom line, its not enough. If we can still get Frenkie over the line, amazing, but it's doubtful, so I'd try and get a cut-price deal for Arthur at Juventus, or Fabian at Napoli. We need a ball-player to sit alongside Casemiro.

This comparison I don't love since Fernandinho had that skinny play forever kinda build like a Giggs, whereas Casemiro is a bit stouter. And more importantly, Fernandinho had the technical quality to play as a #8, which Casemiro doesn't. Also Fernandinho last year as our DM would have been a disaster anyways.

But if it's 3-4 years of really solid DM play that's something. And if we sell McTominay for 20M to some Prem team with more TV rights money than sense than all the better.

My firm belief?

Casemiro a significantly better signing than De Jong would be.

Mentally incredibly strong, a serial winner, actually really wants to join the club and is up for the challenge + FINALLY replaces Roy Keane.

His defensive stability is what we desperately need and I am all for it even if it is only for 2-3 seasons. Exemplary professional.
Different horses and all of that

For what ETH wants to do long term he needs FDJ but maybe right now what the team needs (and the defence specifically) is an out and out DM

Be interesting to see where this takes us as personally I'm not sure FDJ & Casemiro as a pair would really work

Tackles, interceptions, aerial duels, positioning, pressures in the defensive third, short passing are all excellent. Medium and long passing is good, but he’s got Modric and Kroos next to him so not often do you see him do that. Not much of a dribbler and doesn’t run with the ball a ton, but again because Madrid transition quickly with the likes of Vinicius. If I was to single out his best attributes, his positioning and intelligence in reading the game, defensively, are second to none.

Garnacho could be that guy. I'd also 100% take Pulisic on loan with a buy option. One of them would displace Rashy before long.

Fred Eriksen
Casemiro
Malacia Martinez Varane Dalot

Makes us look so much more solid
Clear where we need to strengthen though.
I think I'd start Bruno on the left over Rashford, otherwise yeah same team. God we need a RB, #9 and a LW.
