He needs a Kroos next to him. Is Fred our Kroos?
I see Eriken and Fred on either side of Casemiero as our best combination. In games where the opponents will park the bus replace Fred with Bruno.

I still feel we need a midfield playmaker but as things stand the above is the best way to go IMO.

This is the most embarrassed and hurt I have felt as a United fan. We are every fecking asshole's joke. Total circus. I hate Glazers and their brainless minions pretending to be football executives. Darren Fletcher should be ashamed that he is part of this disaster. Glazer squad doesn't care but Fletcher is supposed to be a true red and he is associated with complete trashing of this great club

Nope. I am upset because it actually reflects exactly where we are. Where it was posted and real or a joke - doesn't matter

Will be interesting. Its not often Eriksen plays that deep?
He did against Brentford. Unless we plan on dropping Bruno, which I don't we have the balls to do, Eriksen will have to play deeper. It would help Eriksen knowing that he has a proper CDM next to him who knows what he is doing rather than a useless sack of shit in Fred.

How? Casemiro is not in the steep physical decline that Basti was, nor has the injury record. Not only that, he's not going to half-arse it either like Basti did. All reports hint he relishes a challenge here.
 . Come on man, lets be realistic now. He is coming for the money and absolutely nothing else.
He is 30, playing in Real, winning trophy after trophy after trophy. New challenge? Sure, sure

Can't believe we're actually going to have a defensive midfielder out there for us. Only took 5 years.

Oh no :) How am I gonna sleep tonight! Somebody on the interwebs thinks I am embarrassing myself! :D

For what it's worth, I was being sarcastic. But nice to see how many people here are easily triggered. Thanks for all the well wishes for my mental health, though  Y'all are adorable.

It will be even funnier if Casemiro doesn't sign and this whole brouhaha is for nothing.

We have signed world class players before and all of them flopped. Heck, all our signings in the past 10 years flopped, let's stop signing anyone!

All youth players promoted from our academy is also doing badly at the moment, let's not promote any more youngsters!

Let's play with Redcafe XI because this group have not failed yet.

I swear to God some of you here are dumb as rocks. Actually that is insulting to rocks.
Yeah all of our signings have equally been shit. If anything, the more experienced players we have signed have been the most consistent performers. Ibrahimovic, Cavani, Matic, even Ronaldo have all performed with a level of consistency that cannot be said for a lot of the other signings. Yeah none of them were great players or at their peak, but they pretty much did what we expected of them. Worst case scenario he is another Matic for us who lets not forget helped us finish in second position in the league and afterwards continued to be a passable option for years afterward despite being woefully mismanaged and over utilized.

Lets not forget that some of the players you would consider as ideal signings like Jadon Sancho are far from guarantees either. There is no such thing as a perfect signing when you are a club that is in our current state. Only the absolute best of the best have those opportunities because players are begging to play for them. There isn't a single player we couldn't sign where there wouldn't be a catch of some sort.

How can anyone thats a United fan have anything against this signing? Have they seen our midfield the last forever? He is a top top DM, only 30 years and known to be a leader and a winner.
And we are a graveyard for good players. Let us see what happens, if it happens.

We need desperately player like him so no matter how much we will pay to Real or Casemiro, transfer is logical.

BUT; it has bad taste for me. I am sick of being Real's bitch. They buy a player, he gives best years to that club and then they sell him and even earn money on that player. I am so jealous on those feckers

I don't care if he's 30 years old (Maybe a bit concered that we are looking to offer him 4+1 year deal), but he adds some actual bit into the midfield. LFG!

I totally agree.. the post below was a pleasant surprise for me and it goes a long with your point about only 30 years old.. all these players are still in their prime and will survive for another couple years..

Fernandinho played for city well past 30 and did quite well until 34/35? Rodri only came in 2 years ago if I’m not mistaken..

United is apparently offering Casemiro a 4+1 so that’s as wise as you can be for such a contract.. even if this guy gives us a solid 3 years if not 4 it’ll be good enough for us.. also gives us a chance to now look for the next DM who can not only learn from Casemiro but slowly take over from him without a rush.. this allows us to sign the new guy without getting rinsed like we would if we’re in a hurry..

So of the Premier League midfielders "old man" Casemiro is younger than:

Kevin De Bruyne
Kanté
Thiago
Jorginho
Gundogan

Last year not having a backup DM was a weakness. It seems we’ve learnt nothing. Hope Papa Flo is not getting overconfident … he seriously underrated defensive talent in his first spell and look how that ended.
Also the mid year WC will cause havoc to fitness schedules. Lots of potential injuries.
The CKM is more than squeezed.
The Makelele thing would be true if we had sold him years ago without a solvent substitute.
Obviously Tchoauameni is not Case but because of his price and competence in his signing I don't think he will come to spend a year in the role that Camavinga had. And of course the 80 million(to hopefully buy a substitute for Benzema or a creative midfielder).
If they had been carried away by sentimentality, Ramos would still be captain and Cris would be the starter with Vini on the bench

You're looking at it wrong I think. Look at how pissed he got defending his new team. This is a guy you trust at your back.

I traded my soul to the devil under the proviso that United would buy a holding midfielder.

This better be worth it.

Is anyone else willing to make the same sacrifice for a striker, a winger, a right back and another midfielder?

I won’t lie lads.. it’s going to take me a good week or two for this signing to sink in once it finally goes through.. I mean I was in this thread literally a couple days ago calling folks bonkers to even let their inner muppets dare fancy such a signing!

I’m so used to us chasing players, taking things slow, pondering, preparing, etc etc that I'm just not used to seeing us get this done so fast.. that too Case-feckin-miro ffs..

I still refuse to believe this is an even a real possibility and not just another leverage job.

But if this for real and we do bring Casemiro in, oh my.

United DNA bro, who needs star signing when we have youth product. McTominay at least knew what it meant to be a United player.

4 years is not wise. It's what he takes to come here. Guaranteed 4 years of big salary.

We get 2 1/2 good years out of him if we are lucky? The rest of the contract will see him more injured regularly as age & past injuries eventually catch up.

Matic, 34 was a flogged horse at least 2 seasons ago.

True. If he joins we should make him the captain :)

Matic had one good season with us when he could play entire match and be top level. At most you can argue two seasons, if you are very generous. And Matic was 29 when he joined us...

I mean, to be fair different people handle age differently but still - 30 is a very risky age. If he were top DMF in the world with 4 more years in him, OBVIOUSLY Real Madrid wouldn't even entertain selling him. Why do we think we are smarter than them?

It depends on how well the players look after themselves too. Worst case scenario yeah, probably 2 1/2 years, but with what 11 days left in the window, the desperation is obvious. Casemiro-Bruno-Eriksen/Fred is a partnership that works better than whatever the hell we have now.

I think being taken to the cleaners is a subjective take..

It’s the way things have worked out that we’re going to end up signing Casemiro.. signing Rabiot on an expensive contract would be a bigger cleaning job no?

Also if reports are to go by - Apparently Casemiro’s contract is immensely incentivized and performance based so he’ll be earning more or less the same amount as he is in Madrid and only more if the club achieves its targets which I’m assuming are CL qualification/Top 4 finish to say the least which is fair in my opinion..

If this guy comes and bring some composure to our midfield which helps us get CL qualification than £60m is a bargain

Yet Modrić for example is still going strong at 36 and barely ever injured.

We kinda have but in his version of a midfielder.. Casemiro is easily top 3 DMs in the world atm..
Hm, excellent dm without question but problem with classic defensive midfielders is that they are good based on the rest of midfield. He has Modric and Kroos. Busquets had Xavi and Iniesta. When those destroyers have world class players around them then they look great but we shall see how he will settle in our midfield.

Yes, we have to start somewhere. When we were linked with de Jong, many moaned that he isn't good defensively. Now we are linked with CM who is very good defensively, people moan about now having creative player.

It's a team game, we have to sign multiple players to create a team and he is one of them.
