Ya this one will happen. Who will be the final signing is the question. A RB, striker or another midfielder ?

RB and midfielder. Price to be determined but we seem to be getting ready to cash in on some players.

His potential replacement in the squad is there now so we could see whether he's good enough and test him for a year whilst Antony is still here. We're not going to replace our best player Antony with an inexperienced player. Ajax apparently is out to get Ziyech back.
saw tht mentioned as well that Ajax are looking to get Ziyech back and he is open to returning. suspect if they can get him on loan or a reasonable fee, they'll pull the trigger and then sell Antony

Ajax don‘t want to sell so if we want him we have to make an offer they cannot refuse. That is 90 million € or more.

Watched a lot of his highlights the last few days. A lot of skill, but looks lightweight and the end product is questionable. He may be a very frustrating player to watch.

Liverpool got Luiz Diaz for half the price and he looks a much, much better player.

I don't think he'll be going for 100 million euro's guaranteed, probably like a bonus of 10 million euro's with an initial fee between 75 - 85 million euro's.

Looks like this is going to happen, but still have no idea why he hasn't been training.

Anthony is indeed a light weight. He will be a very expensive disappointment

Realistically, what would you say his value is when you factor in potential?

Assume he’s angry with the club. Possibly agreed he could leave at a certain price? Seems he will continue to stay away.

Tough situation for Ajax

For the BBC and crossy1686;
That is £63-73M with a bonus of £8.4M.

Feck it don't care how much we spent. If the alternative is Cody, I don't care how much Antony costs. Rather we gamble 100 mil than a sure fire flop for 40

Has to be both RB and midfielder. We cannot continue with Dalot or even one of Mcfred getting regular first eleven minutes. All 3 are championship level players and should permanently be banished to the bench. However, if ETH moves Martinez to midfield (which I believe he should) then the focus should be on getting a good PL-proven RB - namely KWP.

Exactly because it is I'm not convinced spunking all that's left of our budget on Antony is the best call
We have no idea what our budget is. Two weeks ago it looked like we have feck all. Now we are spending it left and right. I agree it's not ideal if this hampers other deals but he's the best option out there for the wing

It’s pretty obvious for everyone following this saga. He’s pushing for a transfer and are not happy that Ajax trying to price him out of the market. And who can blame him? We made a proper €80mill bid that got rejected.

If it doesn't impact our ability to sign a RB and maybe a second midfielder or a striker, I couldn't care less how much Antony will cost. I'm just not sure we'll be spending endless money and can't shake the feeling after Antony for 100m, there won't be much left

I find it difficult, if I'm being honest. I recognise that this club is in such a bad place, all our signings seem to struggle or flop. Every player we sign is a risk, and such is Antony. He's one of the best players I've seen at Ajax in the recent years, and they've had many great players recent years. Who performed very well in Europe, for their NT's but most havent lived up to their potential or expectation. For different reasons.

So for the prices Antony's fee are being quoted, you want a sure thing. But there are no sure things (available), and we are not the only club struggling with that.

Now to Antony, I already think he has a very very high level. His skills don't come of every match, but also going a bit deeper into g/a, the guy adds a great amount of value to his team. With the threat he generates, the space he creates for himself and other. He's very gifted, his amazing speed and acceleration, dribbling, trickery, he has a very good left foot, he can press, plays with a lot of intensity, has good understanding with overlapping full backs, has great crossing ability. And he actually is scoring at a very decent rate, he is no Mo Salah but when you look at his goals per minute as a winger (no wide forward), in a star- heavy team as a player that doesn't take set pieces, he's doing great. He's been a great replacement of Ziyech, who's been one of the best / most influential Ajax players in the past 10 years.

So with all that being said, when you look at his ability, his age, his specific skills and the position he plays in, the rarity of big talents in similar roles/positions, Ajax' sporting and financial position, his contract, the stage of the transfer window, his performances and emergence in the National Team, the World Cup ahead where he can very much shine..

It's very conparable to Frenkie de Jong, but his type of player is even more rare, and he went for 86 million euro's.

I'd say somewhere between 70 - 90 million euro's makes a lot of sense for Antony. You are not finding this profile anywhere for less, especially with the sale of Raphinha.

But at the same time, can I guarantee him being a succes here, no.

Look at how the likes of Bruno, Rashford, Martial, Sancho, Ronaldo, Cavani, Pogba, Varane all turned into crap. How can I say Antony will not? I just can't.

There is a huge battle between the current rot that are bringing new players down I feel, but also needing new people to help the rot. And this is across different levels on/off the pitch I think.

Not sure we'll get another midfielder, Antony or not.
Think we might get a winger and look for a young and cheapish RB.

It is not out of this world for Ajax to hold for more, I just don't think it is respectful at this stage to refuse to train. He has a 3 year contract, Ajax are counting on him for another year, as they've already lost a few key players.

They realise that any player has a price, hence they are open to negotiate but their asking price just hasn't been met yet. It would be a bad thing if all players start doing this.

Gakpo is not a sure fire flop at all and a brilliant talent in his own right. In fact, one who probably performed better than Antony last season.

I hope we get the pair personally, and I suspect that we will. Gakpo is, to le, a long term centre forward, and there are not many quality CF prospects around. We’ll get him and let Ronaldo go I think.

Maybe we'd not have been willing to spend so much had we beat Brighton or Brentford
That’s partly why it’s so annoying. We’re panic buying the players we should have bought months ago. Nobody on this forum needed reminding that McFred aren’t up to it but apparently the club did.

Constantly at the STD clinic.
I don't disagree. I just don't buy into the fact that Rashford being underwhelming in a struggling Manchester Utd team, in the premier league where the physicality of players is above most if not all other leagues, means he would not tear apart the Eredivisie of Ligue 1.

His pace would be very difficult for teams to deal with, the defenders are a lot slower and even the keepers are just so much worse, it often seems having high shot power is enough to beat the keepers regularly, this isn't the case in the premier league.

How many goals do you think Rashford would get in the Eredivisie?
It all depends it's difficult to judge like this. I actually think Rashford would be much better as a big fish in a small pond so he would probably get a good 15-20 goals if he went to a team like that. Soak up pressure and unleash on the counter. For teams like Man United you need someone with top class decision making and mentality.

I don't know if Antony has that or not but you could in theory find that sort of player from any league in Europe. You can't just say because Rash would be good in Eiridivisie (I don't think he would be at Ajax), that any other player isn't all that special

I think he'll get it, but not for the current offer and he has no right to get his dream move this summer, he has a contract.

Ajax isn't forced or obliged to sell him this summer at all, not lawfully or morally either.

I do totally agree with you but I think you'd be mad to refuse €100 million.

And as much as clubs have the contracts, there's such a risk with keeping players who don't want to be there. Fleece United for a sum you'll probably never be offered again and replace him for a fifth of the cost.

We'll have paid for your electricity for the next 100 years this summer.
