Looks like we’ve moved on from Trapp to Dubravka. Wouldn’t mind him as a loan signing. Decent backup to give DDG some competition

Can’t see how this will work, surely the geordies now view us as rivals. They’re not going to want to strengthen us, so if they agree to loan him, he’s shit?

I mean that as a question I’m not just pouring piss on the potential transfer, I have not seen him play so can’t say myself.

They don't rate him - if they did, they wouldn't have replaced him this summer. He's OK, but has similar strengths and weakness to de Gea.

He's okay. Better command of his box and claiming crosses than de Gea. Not as good a shot stopper as de Gea. Probably equally as poor at distribution and with the ball at his feet as de Gea, although at Newcastle we haven't really seen that part of his game. Would have preferred someone to really challenge de Gea.

Would be a good solid backup but then again I’ll be surprised if Newcastle will let him go.

I’d rather go for a number 1 and if that means having to persist with DDG & Heaton for this season then so be it. Go for the right one next summer if they ain’t available right now.

Really didn’t think he was a ball at his feet player?
His distribution is no better than De Gea's. He's definitely not the goalkeeper you want for a side that plays possession football in a high line, but perhaps that isn't the plan for this season (anymore?).

A loan wouldn't be the worst thing, but don't think he's great.

I don't mind him as a back up for a season, maybe this way we can sign a RB and save money on signing a new GK.

All the people saying ‘use Heaton as backup’ would be going insane at the club for not signing another keeper if DDG picks up a serious injury

Yep.

Heaton should not be our number 2...he was signed to be a 3rd choice for a reason.

We clearly aren't looking at replacing DDG until next summer so a loan for him would be just fine.

Getting a decent keeper as backup, who until recently was a PL no. 1 seems eminently sensible to me. The extra season will give us a chance to identify DDG's successor, if it's felt one is needed.

He would be a really good backup for any PL team but average at best starter. I just can't see why we would be fine with loaning him to you especially after the stunts you pulled with Lingard in January. Hope we keep him as Darlow is tragic but can't fault Dubravka if he wants the move as you have a lot more games with Europa League.

Either sign a starter or sign a solid dependable backup. Why the need to kick the can down the road?

God no, not at all what we need in a new GK. We need someone that’s good on the ball, someone that can act as a sweeper and should be a genuine candidate as a starter!

Would prefer to see us take a gamble on a younger talent who can provide the same back up to De Gea, while also having the potential to usurp him, rather than just a back up who we know for sure won't be better.

This is agent talk getting his name out there because he doesn't want to be on the bench at Newcastle. Doesn't fit the profile of what we are looking for at all.

But this kind of signing is to buy time to search for that player…

Not that this is happening, mind.

Based on the names we've been linked with so far, the profile we're looking for is "owns a pair of gloves".

I remember him putting in an epic Friedel on his debut against us, and he’s been solid for Newcastle largely.

He's just a backup keeper on loan for a year. Nothing more, nothing less. The position will be addressed properly next summer I would assume.

Very reliable source saying we’ve made an offer…
