Designed to put pressure on Trapp. Demonstrated through extent of media briefing.

That mediocre dickhead has surely burned his bridges.
I think he likes his stinking attitude. Clearly he likes the egos. Ole done his best to remove them and we ended up with Maguire as captain.

Maybe but I just don't think he's good enough. He also thought Lingard should have gotten more minutes so his judgement is clearly suspect.

Yeah he’s abit off but I listen to Schmeichel’s opinions and I think it’s a GK thing

I’ll watch how he’s doing at Forrest.

I know a lot of Newcastle fans rated him quite highly a couple of seasons back. Would take as number 2. Talk of Heaton is back up is wrong, he was signed to replace Grant as the old, experienced 3rd choice that most top sides have (Richard Wright, Scott Carson, Rob Green, etc) Heaton is never playing unless it's a friendly or we have an injury crisis.

If nothing else, bringing in Dubravka gives us a new excuse to beat the shit out of De Gea. After all, no quality keeper ever makes a mistake.

Whenever I watched him at Newcastle, he stood out as being the first player they needed to upgrade. He was terrible.

Surely Heaton is good enough? The names we have been linked with are not better players than him...

Would be a good no.2 and better than Heaton who hasn't played first team football in about 2 years. Not good enough to challenge DDG but solid enough that we won't need to worry about him playing in cup competitions.

36 year old Tom Heaton who hasn't played a Premier League game since pre-covid. That guy?

Also a shame the club treates sergio romero so badly in his last season with us. He was available on a free this summer and have now signed with a club in argentina i believe. He for me was a perfect no2.

yea, that guy.

We are being constantly linked to dross and keepers that can't really challenge De Gea. Maybe Sommer but he is 33 as well. Like it or not, we are not signing a first choice keeper this summer.

I know. It's very apparent that we're going into the season with De Gea as number 1 but we want a capable backup, which Dubravka would be.

Nope. This is legit. Trapp doesn't want to come.

I am a bit baffled by this. I don't see how Dubravka is a similar profile of goalie to Trapp. I've seen some stats that suggest four years ago he did a lot of sweeper keeper stuff. Can he still do that? Its been awhile. You take a player and get him to do something over a long period its hard to rewire him to do something else.

However, this is Man Utd. We went from De Jong to Rabiot to Casemiro. Three midfielders with nothing in common. So I guess going from Trapp to Dubravka is just typical of us. We clearly don't have a specific profile in mind e.g. ball playing sweeper keeper. We just lurch randomly from player to player cos 'they're good.'

If we sign Dubravka I hope he surprises us all.

As a backup he is a decent option especially on a loan deal. Funny thing is earlier in the window I had accepted De Gea would be undisputed first choice. It was the link with Sommer late in the window and reports of us looking for a sweeper keeper that made me get my hopes us that we could upgrade on De Gea. That's why I think signing Dubravka will be underwhelming

This is bullshit. We need a goalkeeper who can pass the feckin ball and a number 1 not some random number 2 who Newcastle don't even want.
We have Henderson, just loan a decent keeper to challenge DDG, and next season Henderson will takeover as our #1

He's not up to it, either.

De Gea will leave on a free next summer, Henderson will be sold and we'll buy a new keeper who can pass the ball and sweep in behind (which is something that none of De Gea, Henderson or Dubravka can do).

In light of the graciousness shown when negotiating Lindgard on loan we ask only a paltry £10m loan fee.

joking aside, not really happy about this if it comes off. The drop from Pope to Dubravka is small but not tragic. The drop from Pope to Darlow (3rd choice, soon to be 2nd) is precipitous.

As a backup, whatever.

But where someone like Sommer would have been a nominal #2 who could quite easily have supplanted De Gea this season by dint of suiting the style of play more, Dubravka as #2 seems far less likely to leapfrog De Gea unless De Gea is making a lot of mistakes.

Not worse than Henderson. He is a good shot stopper great at corners and commands the area well. Not the best passer, not much better than DDG. He is a beast on his day but I am gonna post this EURO incident just in case...

He can challenge DDG as number 2 and jump in when needed, for instance when DDG has a howler.

Some stat comparisons here with De Gea. This covers the 21/22 season. Crosses stopped being a particularly big difference bewteen the two.

Dubravka has been a different keeper because how Steve Bruce plays.

In '17/18 (before Bruce was manager) he was in the 91st percentile for defensive actions outside penalty area with 1.08 per game. That is more than Kevin Trapp’s 0.84 last year. When Bruce came in '18/19 he was in 54th percentile with 0.63. Clear reason is the change in style of play.

I think overall his numbers look encouraging considering he was efficiently sweeping 4 seasons ago. His passing stats are good, dealing with crosses very good. Overall its still likely an upgrade over De Gea, but obviously not a top quality goalkeeper. If we get him I can still see De Gea being dropped because Dubravka will likely be better suited. Next summer I expect we’ll go for a new long term goalkeeper.

I hope this is a joke. He is one of the worst keepers in the league. It can not be true that we do not have a talented keeper, we can give a chance on the bench instead.
