Defensively we're becoming quite good, but it saved us today because our build up play and attacking options are poor. So pleased to see our back line being so confident, it gives the rest of the team a boost.

But last season that game would have been a loss for us, so I'm grateful for the three points. A lot of positives to take from this game.

I'll take a win at all costs. Poor performance but what really matters early on in the season is the result.

3 points, tough away match, Casemiro got his debut, clean shit, back to back wins, beautiful goal, no complaints here.

Important result to break the away record. We clearly need a forward and winger before window closes

Poor performance and lucky to get the win. We seemed to be hanging on for dear life most of the match. Need to start showing some sort of control if games if we have aspirations beyond mid table this season.

Fantastic win (not performance before anyone gives out to me). Clean sheet, first away win since Feb, back to back wins for the first time since Feb. I will absolutely take that.

A snokefest. Lvg' football was more entertaining than this.
Couldn't hold the ball in the second half

ETH has a lot of work to do with this lot.

But an important win. Well done!

We weren't great, but it was a massive win after Monday. Team has a lot of issues still, a lot that needs improving, but we just needed a positive result today.

Really fortunate to get away with that. Southampton created a lot of chances and our decision making in attack was pretty poor

Clean sheet. Two wins on the bounce. Small steps but very important.

That wasn't even anything resembling a good performance, however, two wins in a row I will definitely take that. Feels like forever since we won two in a row

Hope Ten Hag does a Southampton manager and tell us exactly what he planned and how shit their players were and who we targeted.

Thought we were comfortable.
Martinez is a born defender.
Agree with the Martinez part, but comfortable? We were anything but comfortable and should count ourselves lucky not to have conceded.

When we came out at the start of the second half up until we scored we were excellent. After we scored we sat back.

I guess we are doing Liverpool tactics away from home. Whereby when we score we look to counter afterwards.

Don't feel that we really deserved three points. Well, the defence and the midfield somewhat earned it. The forward line was awful. Seemed as though they just checked out as soon as we went 1-0 up.

The positives to take were the grit in defence, Varane and Martinez really fought for a clean sheet. Plus the win.

But our overall play was really, really poor.

Credit to Southampton. They have some really athletic, competitive players.

Did they? A few scrambles from set pieces and that was it. De Gea had one save to make.

Good. Could have been 'after the Lord Mayor's Show' but a solid result.

What an absolutely shite game this was. Glad it's over.

We still need about six signings to start resembling a competent team. At least Martinez is looking decent.

If McTominay keeps his place even with Casemiro coming in, I'll just probably give up.

Ugly win but a win, first away in 7 I think. We were good in the 1st, fell of a bit after we scored. Will be up and downs, we're a work in progress but I like the look of things.

Happy with that. First back to back wins since February. Clean sheet, away, for the first time since I don’t know when. Lots of positives to take. We looked good defensively and Martinez is really just a shorter Vidic. Casemiro showed in the few minutes he got how well he anticipates danger. Sancho was bright in the first half and tailed off badly in the second, fitness? Thought McTominay had a really good game which is a good thing, we need a lot of our squad to be in good form, lots of games to come.

For the negatives, we still need time to become a team that controls play and suffocates the opposition. Slow down the game when we want to and speed it up when we want to, like City do really. I’m seeing a lot of positive signs that we are going in that direction, but it will take time. We also lack depth and options upfront which is a worry.
The negative you mention can only be done by a new midfield signing.

Pitch and performance not great at all, but another three points in the bag is great. It's not always easy picking up three points against Southampton away.

I'll take that. Considering our away form any win is welcome, even when we end up being pinned back so much.

It's been a while since I've been able to say this, but I really like our back line. Even Dalot is looking better.

Not sure how Rashford managed to finish that match. I'd completely forgotten he was in the pitch at one point before I spotted the 10 shirt doing a half-assed job of closing down.

Bad performance. Good result. We couldn’t keep possession. And some of our passing was atrocious. Good result and our back line seems solid. Love that they celebrate clearances together.

Hard fought win as we were playing with 10 men whilst Elanga was on the pitch.

We're pretty toothless in attack and still can't control games, nor build/sustain attacks from midfield.

WIN and I don't give a feck how it came. Played good in first half and should have scored atleast one. Second half after the goal we dropped back. Great defensively together and a clean sheet is a good boost.

Manchester City, Liverpool, chelsea all win ugly as feck.
