More than happy with that for where we are at right now.

We can build on clean sheets and the attacking play will come eventually with Ten Hag as coach.

Im gonna get choked, but Elanga did better than Sancho. Sancho also subbed early so maybe the coaches agree on that.

Dalot did well, De Gea seemed confident. Good win on a bad day

Decent game.

We are at our best when we play quick one touch football. But we lack creativity in the middle of the park to create those quick transitions. And Ronaldo looks like a shadow of himself. I think he has played his last game for us.

Embarrassing game. No idea what y'all are celebrating. No control at all.

Lavia was fantastic, we should really sign him in a year or two.

Scrappy win in the end but a win is a win. That's a game we'd probably have drawn last season. There's a fight in this team now that we haven't seen in a long time.

Martintez was superb again. Liverpool game wasn't a one off for him. He'll become a fan favourite very quickly IMO

There is usually a drop in intensity after a huge derby, and we saw that today.

But, the defense was solid, and we got the three points by grinding it out. We are indeed quite blunt in attack.

Where the grass is greener.
Our attack needs a lot of work and reinforcements, to be quite honest, we look very blunt going forward. Need a lot more intelligence with our overall play. Poor passing, poor runs.

Still very happy to come away with a win.

Without Lisandro we would have dropped points there today no doubt about it.

No good signs going forward with the ball, but better resilliance in the backline for sure

Hard fought away win. We look much more solid in defence with Martinez in place of Maguire.
Eriksons passing is Scholes esq at times.
MCT was actually crucial today defending at set pieces.
Elanga not quite up to it in quality needs upgrading. Rashford pretty anonymous today.

I mean, not terrible, but far from good. Win is a win, but for past 30 minutes of the game it seemed that we have 3 players less on the pitch than them. Midfield needs to be far better and hopefully that happens finally sometime this season.

Also Ronaldo is so past it.

There were 2 balls drifted across his 6 yard box while he was stuck on his line. Another week against a better attack and we're 2 down and our centre backs are getting all the blame.
Yeah, unfortunately, he's still never going to come for those. We know what we've got with him now. Great at instinctive saves/moments, not so great at coming to claim for the ball.

I think if Martial was fit he would have played Rashford through for at least 2/3 clear cut chances.

If we sign Antony, we should let Ronaldo go. He looks done at this level. Either that or he's suffering from a lack of pre-season big time.

Not Ten Hag football, could have easily been a draw, but two wins in a row let it continue.
Those first two losses of the season means we need to be solid and get those points before we can be expansive in our play which will take a lot of confidence.

Good defensive game, bad offensively. Looks like we're back to basics. The offense will get better if we keep grinding out results.

Thought Southampton were really good today. Another side who believed they could get at us and obviously had absolutely no fear of us. On another day the results could have been different. They've got one or two really good players. Bella-Kotchap and Lavia look really good.

Great to get the three points but our performance wasn't great. It's clear we're still very disjointed, can't really get any control midfield and aren't great at breaking teams down. We were especially poor after we went 1-0 up. Seemed to shrink rather than grow from it. I thought the defence all played quite well (even Dalot was better than usual) and I thought Eriksen looked tidy but everyone else... not great. Still, three points and moving in the right direction.

A clean sheet! Good, professional away performance against a very physical Southampton team. It's been so long since I felt confident in this team.

I don't know why the forwards are so rigid though, thought Sancho, Elanga and Rashford would rotate a bit more. Sancho is better on the right for me and it's good to test the opposition fullbacks in different ways.
Good to see more of these posts.
Gosh knows why people where expecting anything other than a very difficult outing.
We haven't won back to back and away in ages, the fact that we have, should be given credit, but the Cafe would rather moan after such a positive direction I guess.

We are getting so much better out of possession but still definitely a work in progress in possession.

We need to bring in attacking players, even one for now will do, especially with Martial being out. We simply cannot afford to have Elanga be utterly useless for 70+ minutes.

We also need a shift in mentality, the fear in our guys is almost palpable but most importantly we need to start winning our 50/50 challenges and second ball at a respectable rate.

Ronaldo looked to me short of confidence as well.

Decent win but it annoyed the shit out of me when we tried to get a second with a minute or two of injury time to go when we could have just run it into the corner and sealed it without any drama.

An uncomfortable but very important win. This team needs confidence above all else and holding on for 30 mins in a tough away game will do that. Our defense held up brilliantly against a very different kind of threat than against Liverpool. But our attacking options are way too poor. I also fear for when we have to bench Eriksen. But for today it's a good win.
Eriksen was pretty good I thought. At least in the 1st half.

Did they? A few scrambles from set pieces and that was it. De Gea had one save to make.
Maybe a lot is a slight overestimation but they created enough. They were good for a point really, we need to be better when we come up against more clinical sides.

Great result, but a very poor performance after Monday.
Where was the passion and intensity today?

Without further transfers in, where are the goals going to come from?

Wasn't anything to write home about and we were clinging on at the end but overall a solid performance where we didn't shit the bed when coming under immense pressure. First half was decent as we looked to be moving in the right direction other than that killer instinct. We are missing something, maybe in attack or midfield i think both halves showed each side equally. First half we could have used a spark in attack that's different from what we have (Martial maybe but my nan has a better injury record) and then in the second half we really needed someone to take hold of the game and keep us in possession long enough to breathe, Cass will hopefully help to stabilize that aspect.

yeah we were shit after the goal. But 1-0 is a great result and that was a better defensive performance than anything we’ve put on last season. Get Casemiro integrated.

The letdown after Liverpool was no surprise, but we ground out the win we deserved…barely.

Scrappy, crappy game but we ground out the result and broke the away streak. We needed that, I expect improvement when Casemiro is ready to start. We need more competition for attacking places. Elanga did well for the goal but he was pretty abominable in possession second half, as was Dalot. Rashford needs to keep up the intensity he showed against Liverpool. Much needed 3 points though.
