It sounds like a lot of money for someone who hasn’t proven himself beyond the Dutch Eresdivisie. Has the world gone crazy or is it just United.

Sancho and Antony on either wing...both in their early 20's

Exciting times.
Yep, can’t remember the last time we had two very exciting young wingers on either wing? Finally just hope it won’t be as one dimensional as so often in the past.

Hope he smashes it for us, so welcome Antony.

This is gonna shift Sancho to the left so I'm certainly excited about how that's gonna play out.

I expect a semi rough first season as dalot is kinda shit.

It's not that he can't be relied upon, he just toes the company line and gets his info from the club, doesn't over step and doesn't sensationalise.
He can be relied upon to say what the club want him to say. The word from the club cannot always be relied upon and, of course, is subject to change.

Sancho was also the first player ever to get 15 goals and 15 assists in the Bundesliga a few seasons back. On rations since he joined Utd
They just don’t always tell the story. I imagine not many people would be interested in signing an attack minded midfielder who in 42 games scored 1 goal and had 9 assists? Congratulations, we just missed out on 25 year old iniesta!

And we have a hardworking midfield just behind them. Casemiro - Fred- Bruno will be a good midfield to support them. Like this line up.

This feels like a huge financial gamble. I wonder how a young lad from the Dutch league is going to handle coming to one of the biggest clubs in the world with a gigantic fee? People are going to be talking about it every game, every performance, every pass he misses. ETH should know his personality so hopefully he is the sort to stick his chest out and make a real difference. It won't just come down to quality on the ball.

Really happy that this looks done after it seemed like unlikely at some point. Last game really highlighted our deficiency in attacking options. While still an enormous fee, I hope that the €99 million is true as the press would love to put the "€100 million man" tag every time he has a bad game. As long as Antony doesn't let the reports get in his head, he'll be fine.

Yes but he’s only reporting United’s feelings/opinions. Not reporting any sort of news.
Yes but if Orny’s reporting an opinion, usually it becomes reality. He’s the source of all muppets. He said in his opinion Eriksen would choose man united, and Eriksen chose us. If he thinks United is confident to get Antony, then it’s muppet day!!

It's a gamble but i feel more at ease knowing ETH has managed him before and knows how good he is.

If the manager is willing to sign off on spending 100m he must think he's got the potential to be world class.

Never scorn on Malacia! I was doubtful though, also on Martinez, but he's been excellent.

I don't think Antony is bad though, just unproven and because of that, too expensive. He could well be the new Neymar in a few years.

And, take an extra grain of salt with my opinion for the fact I really fecking dislike Antony.
Taking your hatred away for Ajax as a Feyenoord fan, do you think Antony as a player who is actually very special or is he just another Bergwin type player.

Again, I have seen Antony but I am not a regular Dutch league follower, so what's your take?

Ajax sold Gravenberch and Martinez, and did not want to sell more players unless an offer came in that could not be refused.

That’s why the price went up folks, you’re welcome.

Personally I think he is worth it.

Why is it only United we have whole package fees and its an English club why cant you do some maths for the English press. Cant you just write 70 mill pounds + 10 mill add ons? They just do it so it sounds like we spent 100mill, which is true but its euros. If Gordon goes for 60/70 and we pay 70 plus add ons its still a rip off but at least we are talking the same money and can have a comparison.
True. I won't even be surprised that in the end it is like 65m pounds upfront plus 20m add-ons which is 100m eur in total but when broken down and translated into pounds does not look nearly as excessive in today's market. But many people will just read the headlines, ignore the currency and assume we just forked out 100m pounds upfront.

Do we have some kind of contractual obligation to insist Greenwood keeps the #11 shirt? We've changed shirt numbers between players during windows before. I notice Jones still has #4 as well, honestly I don't think either player would kick up a stink if they lost their shirt because nobody else would care given their situations.
We don't but we haven't given someone a shirt number from an existing player who wasn't out on loan in a while. Can't see us breaking that for Greenwood with the legal issues there (his lawyers would probably argue it was taken from him as a presumption of guilt etc.)

He's done great in the CL and plays or Brazil. Plenty proven

How quick is Antony? Iv watched clips and some Ajax games but not sure if he’s a pacey winger or more a sancho type? Love his left footed shooting from the right. Scores some peaches.
Quicker than Sancho. He tries a lot of tricks and likes to showboat. Ten Hag was trying to increase his end product and decrease his showboating which he's been steadily improving. It's safe to say he really believes in Antony's ability to have proper end product if he's bringing him here.

His close control and work rate are already what's expected of an ETH player, he just needs to work on his end product.

remember when Ajax wanted €80m when we were first interested in late June / early July? I hate how this club is run so much.

It's setting up for the club to take no 9 from Martial again then:nervous:

My only concern is does he lack that explosive pace to beat players, mind you seems like his trickery helps him beat a man

He has all the talent, but he's inconsistent and prone to losing his head and getting frustrated. He punched Malacia in a game where Malacia tore into him (legitimately) a few times and should've been send off. If he can mature and keep his cool he can achieve anything. His highs are extremely high, just not frequent enough.

And I don't hate Ajax, that's such a strong word, I don't mind seeing them fail, that's all. When reading the caf and the average United fan's opinion on Liverpool my "hatred" is non existent :)

We are building such an amazing collection of unlikeable cnuts for opposition fans (as opposed to us). I am so close to subbing to a paid service to watch our games this year in 4K. All we need now is a decent forward and I’m pulling the trigger.
