If I was Eddie Howe I’d be fuming and running straight over to that ref and drop kicking him in the face!

Anyone know how long Pope treatment was. It was clearly to be added on top of extra time but not sure it was over 2 mins!

The goal is a kick in the balls. The fact it’s way over the allotted time truly is a bastard. But that shit eating grin from Klopp in the dying seconds really is the icing on the cake.

Serves Newcastle right for time wasting all game. Still think we have some big issues but maybe Jota and Nunez coming in makes a difference.

Newcastle are a very well coached side.

Come on - the ref found 5 minutes extra time in the 45 minutes from second half. And the he finds 3 minutes extra from the 5 minutes extra time.
Surely Mariner needs to be looked into - Pope was down for no more than a minute yet he gave 2 and half minutes. He should have blown after Newcastle's chance but, looked like he absolutely wanted to give Liverpool another chance at least. If am Eddie Howe and Newcastle, I'd be absolutely livid.
Absolutely disgraceful refereeing. Pope goes down for exactly 53 seconds in 5 additional minutes of stoppage, yet they end up playing an extra 3 minutes for a total of 8 minutes of stoppage. Hard to watch sometimes when matches are decided at the whims of refs who admit they alter outcomes based on personal choice.

I’m almost sold on stopping the clock for stoppages at this point because the refs on the pitch cannot be trusted to do their jobs
Hate to say it but disagree. The ball was in play for close to none of the last 2 minutes and all of stoppage time.

I hate time wasting more than anything in football and Newcastle deserved that. The problem is now inconsistently refs play past the allocated time when they should

100%. Now stamp out time wasting in every game not just this one
Amen. The tools are all there to make football so much more watchable again but they are just refusing to innovate the game.

I'm lowkey hoping they bring in that suggestion where they stop the clock and just play 60 minutes instead. Would be much better as a fan.

Newcastle's timewasting amounted to maybe a minute and a half at the very most. I guess that means the game goes on until Liverpool score, no matter what. It would have gone on for another two or three minutes more if that's how long it took, the ref had made up his mind to hand them the game. It showed early on as well where Liverpool should have had multiple players booked but didn't.

Newcastle keeper spent about a minute being tended in extra time so at best this game should have gone till the 96th minute but red added 3 extra minutes in added time out of his ass.

Let me know if that is followed in other games.

No coach in any sport on Earth gets away with the disgraceful behaviour on the sideline of that foaming geebag.
They applied last years offside lines to rule out a superb second for Isak.
The ref played on until Liverpool scored in the 8th minute of 5 added on and then blew his whistle immediately afterwards.

There is nothing Eddie Howe could say in his post match presser that wouldn't be justified. I would be seething if I supported Newcastle - I'm furious as is and I don't give a feck about them.

How the hell did Liverpool manage to score that 98mn goal, so gutted, I was really hoping for a draw at least.

Will Klopp ever feck off. I'm sick of this rubbish. Even when they look in decline they're still mustering these sort of wins.
Loads of time added on top of the added time, bet it wouldn't have been for Newcastle you could see what was coming.

I'm sick of his gurning face then at the end going to the fans as if they'd won the league bet it was his antics snarling at the officials all game that got them the extra time on top of the 5 minutes

So fecking dodgy whenever they're involved

Bet it gets their season back on track too

You’ve just watched your team score a last gasp equaliser…first thought, ‘off to Redcafe I go’. At least savour your win lads. Very odd.

Looks like another season where refs bend over backwards to help Liverpool in every possible way. It's disgustingly obvious by now.

What were Newcastle doing even crossing the ball into the box at almost the 95th minute? So naive. Just hold it in the corner. So dumb to give Liverpool an opportunity to counter.
I mean I'd go for the winner too if I was sure it was going to be the last play of the game which it should have been

It's amazing how often footballers try and hit a killer pass or cross in the last seconds of injury time instead of doing the smart thing and heading to the corner flag or keeping the ball.

Bruno did it against Liverpool in the last minute when we played them last week and gave Liverpool another chance to attack and score. Luckily they didn't but it was still very stupid.

Common misconception. Just because it’s stoppage time does not mean you get 40 seconds to line up a corner. Refs traditionally give far too much leeway to stoppage time corners. If that ball is not being whipped in after 10-15 seconds, that whistle needs to be blown. Liverpool took two-thirds of a minute to lineup a corner. Newcastle gets punished for Liverpool artificially extending the match

According to your logic, there shouldn't have been 5 minutes extra time in the first place, but 15 minutes.

The referee allows 98 minutes of play and lets them take one last corner, even though he has only given 5 extra minutes. It's crazy and he was just waiting for Liverpool to get a big last chance.

if it was measured like that every match would have 15-20 minutes of extra time

You're right, like i said, the problem is terrible lack of consistency from refs. But basically killing a game from about the 85th minute has to be discouraged. Fair enough if doing so with ball in play but it never is. Time wasting is now embarrassingly called a 'dark art'. Its a flaw in football that has to be modernised

Referee had a narrative in mind and wasn’t blowing the final whistle until it played out the way he envisaged. One way or another, Liverpool were getting the final chance of the match and Marriner would have played until the lights went off to enable such a scenario.

Why is it only in injury time that the ref insists on stopping his watch and adding the time on? They don’t do this in normal time.

Or how about the Owen winner for United against City back in 2009? We're the referees bent then? Liverpool fans used to say the same about United and now we do the same.

Liverpool didn't even look like scoring a winner either. Typical.

Ah well, they're still not going to win the league anyway
