i have heard yesterday that it is on D+10. that would meen the 18th. but what do i knowNope.
Why?The response on here is nothing short of remarkable and has made for an entertaining read.
The Head of State has died, some empathy wouldn't go amiss at times like this.
i am not a royalist by any stretch but there needs to be some show of respect from the nation.
Could you fill us in?You have no idea what she has done do you, truly?
Apparently because it was lateish last night today is actually D+0 so it would make it the 19thi have heard yesterday that it is on D+10. that would meen the 18th. but what do i know
Surely they can reverse the PR by having some kind of presentation or minute silence at every game and playing the national anthemI think they’ll do it out of a fear of massive negative PR
It happens every season when games are rescheduled for whatever reason.I don't think you are getting the point. Talking millions of people who have already made plans, especially when costing is so high, and airlines, trains etc won't be giving refunds.
But the worse part of it, their is a decision being made later wherw I'm from to see if they are cancelling the amateur youth matches tomorrow as well. We not talking about football on TV, we can live with that not being on for a week, we are talking about children having to miss a game because a 96 year old women has died.
It doesn't make any sense at all.
They really aren’t. Hundreds of thousands of people taking to the streets of London is a semi-regular occurrence. And this can happen at short notice. Look at the BLM protests or the protests related to Brexit, extinction rebellion, poll tax protests, Iraq war protests etc etc etc. None of these ever forced football matches to be cancelled. The events going on this weekend are unprecedented in terms of policing. They don't know what to expect, unlike a large event that happens regularly and within certain parameters like the Notting Hill Carnival. I don't agree that there isn't a public safety consideration re police numbers and crowd control.
i could spend time explaining to you , but i doubt you have the intellectual capacity to understandWhy?
Slightly different given that was one game without fans compared to dozens of games with 1000s of fans and arrangements. It happens every season when games are rescheduled for whatever reason.
What about the Manchester United fans who protested and had a game postponed last second last year?
Ok mate, cheers.i could spend time explaining to you , but i doubt you have the intellectual capacity to understand
Clear link there - Glazers, Manchester United, football. It happens every season when games are rescheduled for whatever reason.
What about the Manchester United fans who protested and had a game postponed last second last year?
Any time a team makes a quarter or semi final of a cup, a game is rescheduled.Slightly different given that was one game without fans compared to dozens of games with 1000s of fans and arrangements.
What about games called off for covid last year? Did COVID pay for peoples flights?Slightly different given that was one game without fans compared to dozens of games with 1000s of fans and arrangements.
There will be protests too though? All these other things still go on and others will also take the opportunity to raise grievances with the Royal Family. They really aren’t. Hundreds of thousands of people taking to the streets of London is a semi-regular occurrence. And this can happen at short notice. Look at the BLM protests or the protests related to Brexit, extinction rebellion, poll tax protests, Iraq war protests etc etc etc
And the crowds on the streets this weekend are likely to be much better behaved and less likely to need intensive policing than protestors.
Ok mate, cheers.
Queen, England, English premier league. It’s a bloody week off, your life doesn’t depend on there being 90 minutes of football.Clear link there - Glazers, Manchester United, football.
No link here, Queen, ????
That was a public health issue, and a very real one at that. What about games called off for covid last year? Did COVID pay for peoples flights?
Aye it's going really well at the min.Even from a business point of view the monarchy injects a shit ton into the economy, the same economy that everyone benefits from.
There will be 1m + lining the streets around the Abbey/Buckingham Palace so you need basically all of Met to cope with that.I'm not sure that'll be the reason - I mean, what will they actually be policing? I get if it was her funeral of course- but I'm not sure what there is to police beforehand that will require a significant number of police officers.
Agree. I think this weekend is perfectly fair and reasonable. Next weekend though, I don't want that Leeds game off.I think it's right call to cancel this weekend's games, the government are gently nudging clubs to call the fixtures off so will be brave one to refuse.
They should go ahead the following weekend though (although obviously different for London with the funeral taking place at some point).
12 days of mourning seems very excessive in this day and age, not sure where that's come from considering the protocol had it as 10 so does show there's flexibility and sport resuming should be part of that.
I think the response has been the same as what you are wanting. The response on here is nothing short of remarkable and has made for an entertaining read.
The Head of State has died, some empathy wouldn't go amiss at times like this.

That said though i hate not having football on at the weekends. The world has moved on a long way since 1952, its too fast pace to close down for 10 days of mourning.
Play the games this weekend and then move all Saturday games to Sunday for next weekend (if the funeral is next saturday). 2 minute silences across the games both weekends.
Ok so hypothetical question here, do you think Birmingham will have a gathering for the funeral? Would the police allow a Birmingham derby to go ahead alongside such a gathering?I think it's right call to cancel this weekend's games, the government are gently nudging clubs to call the fixtures off so will be brave one to refuse.

Public safety? The risk of disorder may be low but terrorism and the like remains a constant when it comes to large public gatherings.I'm not sure that'll be the reason - I mean, what will they actually be policing? I respectfully disagree. First of all there's no 'English' in the title of the league.Queen, England, English premier league. It’s a bloody week off, your life doesn’t depend on there being 90 minutes of football.
My company gave staff the day off todayGo to work today but you can't do what you enjoy on the weekend. You can go to a restaraunt, pub or theme park though.
Yeah makes total sense.
It doesn't, can't believe this myth is still being spread.Any time a team makes a quarter or semi final of a cup, a game is rescheduled.
Even from a business point of view the monarchy injects a shit ton into the economy, the same economy that everyone benefits from.
Im happy for people to oppose the monarchy, but doing it in the name of other people losing money is a fallacy
It's an English league as its played in England. Hope this helps.I respectfully disagree. First of all there's no 'English' in the title of the league.
And your comment around my life depending on 90 minutes of football is a typical knee jerk reaction of people who want life to come to a standstill.
An old lady has died - sad. But I'm a football fan, not a Royal Family fan. I'd rather go to a football match this weekend then sit around moping that the Queen has died, why can that not be respected by getting the matches on?
Not necessarily. It's an English league as its played in England. Hope this helps.
You’re comparing a ongoing global pandemic that killed millions to a 96 year old who’s passed awayWhat about games called off for covid last year? Did COVID pay for peoples flights?
Thread mark thisPeople that want it to be cancelled - you can just - not watch it.
Let the rest of us get on with it.
The funeral is at Westminster Abbey. Just image 1m + coming down to London around that day (if it's next Saturday) and all the chaos that would provide in terms of routes being blocked/security. You simply can't have football matches playing in the hours around that day and it's obviously going to be lower down the events list than the funeral.Ok so hypothetical question here, do you think Birmingham will have a gathering for the funeral? Would the police allow a Birmingham derby to go ahead alongside such a gathering?
Manchester United play Leeds. Our second biggest rivals historically and an always fraught affair, do you think GMP will allow that?
I’m just gonna stop you there, I’m a doctor so my IQ would destroy yoursi could spend time explaining to you , but i doubt you have the intellectual capacity to understand
I wonder if they're waiting for a decision on that. I don't think they'd want to cancel 2 weeks of games in a row and reschedule them around a world cup.The funeral is at Westminster Abbey. Just image 1m + coming down to London around that day (if it's next Saturday) and all the chaos that would provide in terms of routes being blocked/security. I don't see the issue around cities playing games 100s of miles away. Guess they'll be big screens erected in public squares but football matches can exist around that.
Pretty sure in some parts a Monday week funeral has been mooted with a bank holiday so think Premier/FA will be secretly crossing their fingers that happens and they can get next weekend's fixtures out of the way.
No one would notice if they got called off.Sounds as if the rugby league, golf and cricket is on tomorrow, so I'd expect football would be too.
