Once again a fine example of someone using the term luxury signing without having a clue what it means.
Luxury may not be a right word but the point stands. We need a striker, GK and a right back immediately. Yes, more than a midfielder.

We shouldn't be passing on generational English talent if they're available. I'd happily accept a stop gap GK or ST to ensure a decade of Bellingham. We just need better stop gaps than the ones we've signed to date.

Yeah would tend to agree...we need to get better at picking up 'good' players for not much money who can fill key gaps. We shouldn't need to keep spending £50/60m for every single position, even for players who end-up being rotated.

Eriksen is a perfect example of how there are bargains to be had. Kieran Trippier is an example of one we missed who would have definitely improved us for a period of 2/3 years for a small(ish) fee

you know it's going to come down to City, Liverpool and United for Bellingham....we will be eliminated from the race if we don't finish in the top 4. Pool are dying to bring him in simply b/c they have NO legs anymore in their midfield.

He would be more luxury at City simply b/c they have guys who can play that role currently for them but they have the deep pockets and honestly few holes in their squad left to fill

Madrid doesn't need him as they already have their future CM's currently at the club

This guy is going to be the best CM in the world in a few years.
He isn't going to any club unless they're winning trophies every year.
Basically City or Liverpool
Gavi and Pedri? The two new lads at Real? I don't see him ever reaching their quality, let alone bettering them.

Agree with your other point though.

I reckon Real would go for him. Him, Camavinga, and Tchouaméni would be an insane trio for the next 10 years.

He's performed at just a high of a level so far, although it does worry me that he hasn't done similar for England, but I'm putting that down to Southgates tactics rather than a flaw in the player himself as no midfielder stands out for England

I'd be shocked if Camavinga doesn't become the best CM of his generation.

Who looked better at Dortmund?

Sancho or Bellingham?

I think Liverpool have banked on this guy so much that he’s going to have an incredible season and someone else will sign him up.

United is probably going to sign Kroos then. :wenger:
I think Kroos is going to retire at the end of the season. Lots of talk a couple of years ago that this was his last contract.

(I know.) Nothing that United couldn't change with a nice 3y contract for €400k pw.

Really? Shocked? I love the kid, but I wouldn't be shocked at all. There's a lot of competition and he's not heads and shoulders above any of them, or even on par at times. I hope you're right and I'm wrong though, but I don't see where the absolute confidence comes from.

Other than his age I don't see what makes him so special, he moves the ball well and has a good pass but I don't think he's anything special yet for me unless the price tag is for the potential.

Pedri is the more complete player at the moment, but Gavi has insane talent, genuinely reminds me of watching a 17/18 year old Messi at times.
Yes, they’re both absolute quality. I’d have them as the top two in the list we’re making here.

He's not a good fit for City.

He's the perfect fit for Liverpool though, he's a replacement and upgrade to what Wijnaldum did for them.

He's also not a good fit for us, because I don't think he resolved our issue of getting the ball from our CBs and reliably moving it to our attackers. We need a Modric lite/regen.

If Bruno Fernandes doesn't have a future here, I can kind of see him fitting in. But that would be perplexing strategically when we've got other things to solve first.
Exactly what I was thinking, on both points.

Point 1: Bellingham not being a perfect fit: Fernandes being our key starter at no.10 and us having to play the 4-2-3-1 makes these sort of half 8/10's like Bellingham not massively compatible. It's a similar-ish story with City and KDB as you allude to.

Point 2: We need a central midfielder who plays his best football in the centre of pitch/middle third -- not one who is at his best in the final third. The ideal profile of midfielder for us is the 'metronomic' tempo setter. Makes a shit load of passes per game, plays well under the press. Helps us hold possession and circulate the ball in the middle of the field so that we can take the next step - which is basically not playing on the counter in big games and actively taking matches to the opposition. The Modric lite, basically. God knows who that is.

Thought his answer about a possible move away from Dortmund was pretty classy and nice to hear. He seems to have a lot of respect for the club.

Liverpool have won 4 trophies in 7 years since klopp. 6 when counting the super cup and World Cup.
1 league
1 fa cup
1 league cup
1 champions league

this is during their best team ever years, hardly raking the trophies in.

Barca have the benefit of having a clear blueprint of how they want to play, Gavi and Pedri (I know that they sometimes buy them from other academies) but they have the luxury of being casted into a mould.

They'll both be insane, but we also don't know what will happen including injuries in future. Definitely 2 great midfielders in future but they also need attacking talents that are consistent.

A huge plus for Barca is they don't have to spend 300m on midfielders with those two.

I’m surprised people think Liverpool on this.

They need to look at a few options in the summer so unless FSG buck the trend and release money I can’t see them paying £100m for Bellingham + extra players. They also won’t be offering the best money.

That’s why I replied to him we aren’t dropping 100m on a striker. Simply because there isn’t anyone worth that much available out there.
Yeah I agree . Honestly can't think of a striker ( achievable) that I would particularly want. I was hoping we would bring one through ourselves .

I generally don’t buy into typical British hype, but this kid is the absolute real deal. Incredible player. I do think unfortunately he’s liverpool bound.

If Bellingham goes in the summer it will be for more than £100m
Probably looking at 120 or 130.
That price and the wages will probably put Liverpool out of the equation.
Chelsea (at a stretch), us, city, Barca (probably don’t need him right now), Madrid or psg (unlikely due to the league they play in) are the only options.
Bayern an outsider but the cost is outside of any signings they have made recently, or ever.
Newcastle, you never know but unlikely to be in CL and probably 2 or 3 years too early in their development

I've watched a lot of him and for a 19 year old he is exceptional. Although he does still have raw elements to his game. He does sometimes dwell on the ball too long, tries to take too many people on, and by the 70th minute he has ran himself into the ground. He would learn so much playing alongside someone like Casemiro. Someone who could school him in playing the simple passes, keeping the momentum of a move going, conserving energy by holding your position and not running about like Tevez on speed.

I would currently put him in the same bracket of Camavinga, and he went for 27m.

ok, so please explain to me why do need to pay 100m pounds on a player especially when we probably need to buy 4 players for different positions ?

Dortmund arent stupid and having sold Sancho for 70/80 million they wont be taking any less for Bellingham (rightly so from their pov).

My fear is that Liverpool have got to him already.

Have a feeling his transfer to Liverpool is already done.. no authority on this but can just see it.
