Assuming he’s immune to Pep roulette, it’s time to ask the question: will he get close to, or even beat Dixie Dean’s record? At the moment, he’s on course for 59 PL goals if he plays every game: one short.

Nope, he'll miss games, he'll get rotated if the Arsenal don't maintain their title charge and it becomes a procession. Plus he'll absolutely have a dry spell. Might only be 3 games or so but it'll happen.

At some point some freak will come along who ends the game of football as a contest. Like they literally get a sight of goal and score. Put the ball wherever they want whenever they want.

He’s a great player and will break all sorts of records I’m sure but I don’t think he’s any different to other great forwards in the past. Imagine Van Nistelrooy or Henry for example playing now for this City team in an era where defending has seemingly taken a nose dive of a cliff and it’s all just about open expansive football.
Find it funny people creaming them selves over his scoring, when Ronaldo was notching over a goal a game for Real, he was just labelled a stat padder for doing it against the CL canon fodder.

Haaland is really good and his numbers this season are remarkable, if he continues it for the next ten years he could be the greatest striker ever. I do think he benefits from the game being less physical now and there not being many really aggressive and strong defenders out there capable of handling him.

That record was achieved in 39 games too. If he stays fit he'll break all the records he wants to. And a lot of it is down to playing in what is arguably the best team in Europe that routinely dominates teams and provides him immaculate service. But still, quite incredible.

United fans have been beaten into submission and are now bringing out the pom poms out for a City striker.

What a horrible timeline

Given Aguero and Jesus (both are/were good to extremely good players) didn't break the all the records while they played for city, i would say Haaland deserved the credit.

Dont think this release clause is big deal for City. They are being run by a filthy rich Oil state. They can give Haaland billions by some other means and it would make no difference to their owner. If Haaland continues like he is doing at the moment, i expect him to be at City for a very long time

5 in 3 UCL games. You’d expect City to go deep into the competition.

Ronaldo’s record of the most goals in a champions league season (17) will be under threat.

That record will be broken pretty soon anyway. More teams and games in the competition from 2024.

Ah yes good point. These competition changes devalue the achievements some of the greats did!

Aside from goals is there anything special about what he is doing? He’s not someone you turn the TV to watch

You can add fans of the rest of the league to that. My dads a casual fan and rarely expresses much emotion about individual players. He didn’t know a thing about haaland till he signed for city that’s how disconnected he is. Now every time I see him he’s telling me how incredible and beautiful it is to see something like haaland in the league.

I imagine there’s plenty of people who’ll tune in to city games just to see him score.

Aside from goals? Everyone watches football for the goals mate. There’s a reason why strikers are the most popular players world wide. What a wild take. This guy is on a path to score more goals in a season than pretty much anyone before him, in what is apparently the toughest league in the world, and people are still thinking there’s nothing special about it :houllier:

That depends, if pep decides to stay he might just decide to have an extended spell in the PL. He’s seen the level of service he’s going to get and that hasn’t changed before now so isn’t going to change whilst peps there.

He’s definitely going to swan off elsewhere at some point though. He seems like he wants to do the Ibra route, he’ll go to Madrid then Milan and presumably PSG if he bothers with the French league.

I wonder will City score more goals with him in the side overall…in the league they score about 100 goals as a team.

It will be interesting to see if Haaland just scores a big percentage of those goals without the combined total being any higher.

No ... mainly because Pep will want him well rotated at the end of the season to keep him fit and hungry for the CL. But Pep will definitely give him enough games so he can break Salah's record.

Er what? Ronaldo was one of the best 2 players by an absolute distance for basically everyone when doing exactly what you describe. All modern players are stat padders to a degree, it's hardly a disservice to them, only genuinely great players/athletes get that 'criticism'.

I’m a little bit worried about what he’s going to do against us in 10 days.

Harry Kane must be crying himself to sleep every night
I wonder what his relationship is with his brother (who is also his agent)? I think his brother was blamed for not having definite terms in his contract.

The incompetence of Ole not able to bring this guy to the club. Watching Haaland do this for City of all clubs is mighty depressing. Especially when our golden boy is bloody Rashford!
Blame the clowns at the club who wouldn't listen

Only because we should have moved heaven and earth to make him our player not folded at the mention of a release clause. I understood refusing for Reguilon but not for this guy.

Even 1cm lower  That's actually more incredible w.r.t Bolt.
Bolt's acceleration over the first 30 yards isn't that good. What made him the best was that he kept accelerating long after everyone else had reached top speed and his speed endurance was better than everyone else by a mile.

And when city does have a bigger goal number than usual… i imagine people say, “yeah but the team got better overall” or “the rest of the PL teams have gotten more shyte..”.

Credits are were credits are due… this cnut is a freak of nature, nothing less than that. Actually, it doesnt even hurt that much, he is theirs atm knowing that United doesnt have a slight chance at the title.

It’s not (just) Haaland. What you have is a very carefully curated Man City team which - under Pep - is a different beast to anything we saw before in the PL. It’s the old Barcelona tiki-taka dominance but with Pep having had 10+ years to truly perfect it, and an open chequebook to build the perfect team.

Enter Haaland, one of the most complete and clinical strikers we have seen in a long time, whose sole job in the team (unlike any of their previous strikers) is to simply convert those chances. It’s a perfect storm.
