I'd give it around a 7, I'm a Tolkien fan, read the books. The writing at times is frustrating if you know the lore, but it wasn't enough for me to get pissed off by it. Acting good, visuals beautiful, music solid, I never had an issue with the dialogue but some complained about it. Writing is the main weakness of the show and it's not that bad, just feel like its the thing dragging it down right now from being a top quality show. It's a slow show, don't expect constant action, there are a lot of dialogue heavy scenes.

In hindsight I’d watch it all in a couple of binge sessions so you’re doing it right. Think caf consensus (outside of ridiculous posts saying it’s a 1 out of 10) is about 5-7/10.
Probably not what Bezos envisioned and it’s been unfavourably written about by critics but still loads of potential and, in a weird way, the backlash early on hopefully means the next season will be a lot better.
It's more bad than good, to be honest. Nice visuals most of the time. But story, dialogue and characters are crappy most of the time as well.
Fluctuates between 4 and 6/10 depending on episode so I'd give it a 5/10 average
I have to disagree. And most of my complaints have hardly even been about the lore. It's just shite writing, to be honest. I do hear they are changing things up for season 2. Let's see what happens. Sometimes a series can take a season or two to grow into itself.
Don't listen to the Tolkien nerds. It's very good. Even better on second viewing.
2 will be bigger and better. Let's see if Mr Bombadil makes an entrance.

I don’t mind a slow show, will probably welcome it since I don’t associate this universe with full on action scenes. Looking forward to a watch.
I know naff all about Tolkien, watched the original films once. Not a big TV series man. Watched as my G.F is keen.

Yeah but I used to feel guilty for doing so. Must admit I did enjoy the first book but Tolkien lost me a bit through the second. I even bought the Simarillion...only to last one page!

Ok thanks, would be very interesting to know. My guess its that it done good, but not as good as they thought/hoped. Based just on how many/few that watches it that i know of, and how (suprisingly?) little i have seen it been talked about online and in the media.
I don't think that data is available bit I've seen Google trends analysis that shows it's not making many waves online (vs stuff like "House of the Dragon").

Anecdotally, none of my friends watched it as well. For what it's worth, there is some data for early Sept (which is only the first few episodes). No data through Oct yet to be able to gauge a trend throughout the season.

They and you should. One episode in and it's definitely a step up from rings of power. Really puts it to shame actually visually.
100m but the first episode had 25m viewers.
It broke records for Amazon with 25M viewers on debut. September 20th Hot D was around 29M.
Don’t know how that compares to a big Netflix show.
It's on my to see list. Not the biggest fan of GoT but hey dragons, tits and action. Why not eh.

This is pretty much spot on. It's not a masterpiece but it's still good and well worth a watch. Anyone who loves Middle Earth will get something from it. 7 out of 10 is totally fair.
19% of the reviews on IMDB are 1 out of 10. Who knew hardcore Tolkien nerds (virgins) were so petty? Oh just about everyone. Haha
I'd give it 7.5 just to be different. Not quite an 8 but I do think it'll get better and better like Breaking Bad.

Nah, that IP is gone for me thanks to the way GoT ended. Besides, it doesn't overly interest me, I always preferred the mystical part of GoT with the white walkers, it provided balance to all of the politics, back stabbing shite that GoT had
(which was still enjoyable, but too much is not a good thing).
