Any news on eriksen being available for this match? His creativity was obviously missed against Newcastle.

They are called anomalies. It’s not like we’ve been bad defensively every game. That’s the point. In fact we’ve been very good defensively in the majority of games.
After only 9 games, it is impossible to say if 2 of them were anomalies.
Also, we see similar pattern basically every season. If you remove the 22% of the matches where we conceded most goals 2020/21 we conceded 0.67 goals per game in rest of the games, and 2021/22 we conceded 0.87 goals per game.

You’re arguing for the sake of arguing. So you don’t think we’ve played well defensively this season?
Liverpool, Arsenal, Southampton, Leicester, Everton, Newcastle. Not good defensively?

I keep saying it. Some of our fans think it's only good defending if the opposition do not create a single threatening situation in the match. If they have even one good chance in the 90 minutes, then we were 'wide open at the back'

See the Newcastle game. Other than hitting the post twice in the same move, they created nothing that made me think we were in danger. After the match I was reading about how they tore us to bits in the first half and that we were 'not in control' etc.

I wondered if I'd seen a different match to those people

You serious? We get countered on every single game due to playing an high line. I bet most of the goals we’ve conceded have been on the counter.
Yep. Statistically one of the deepest defensive lines in the league so far:

We cannot say those matches were anomalies, and thats why I wouldn’t exclude them when I look at our performance so far this season.

I think it is too early to conclude anything as the defence has looked everything from extremely bad to good and everything in between, sometimes within a week. Also don’t like the fact that we are sitting back so deep, even if I understand it was necessary to stop the bleeding.

I have high hopes that Casemiro will be the missing piece for the defence, that we have been needing for the last two seasons.

He was only back in training yesterday so my guess is it'll be a 30min cameo at most.

Important game in assessing where we are. Clearly behind city, and beat Liverpool and arsenal though people could make arguments about those games (liverpools form and arsenal matched us well). Another home win in a big game would be great, and with Chelsea away next, feels essential. A loss would feel like a massive step back.

Im leaning towards 2-1 and feel Fernandes is due a big showing

I’m not feeling too confident. Just feel it will be a battle of who takes their chances on the break. A tight game but we really can’t afford to be dropping more points.

I’d be very happy with 4 points from these next two games.

Have to say kane and son are miles ahead of our 'finishers' should it come down to a tight game of few chances

The early word on team news
The early word is Ronaldo will come out of the team for Rashford and Fred continues as Eriksen has not been deemed fit enough. That is unconfirmed, of course, and team news will be announced officially at 7.15pm.

Ffs. Mctominay would be a better option than Fred

Team news leaks can feature deliberate errors
If Fred is retained with McTominay available then that would be a surprise. Team news leaks do sometimes feature deliberate errors but the inclusion of Fred prior to the confirmed XI against Newcastle was a surprise yet there he was in the starting line-up.

Weird feeling we’ll batter these. We get to the cusp of creating so many good chances and make bad decisions or passes or just can’t finish, stars will align and it’ll be 4-0

If he plays let's hope he does but he really doesn't deserve to start after the shambolic performance on the weekend
Agree and McT is now available. He also scored the winning goal against Omo. This doesn't make sense at all.

My bet is that Luckhurst guy has just realised McT is no longer suspended.

Pretty sure someone leaking the team wouldn’t lie to him if they were pet if the squad. Has he just outed his source to non playing staff?

I don't think Rashford is the right move answer against Tottenham, he's not getting behind that defense.

Spurs play a very flat back 5 and don’t necessarily play out from the back so Rashford can press from the front very effectively. Spurs have suffered against that v Chelsea and Arsenal
