Ah the multi millionaire Socialist Sir Kier Starmer that can’t give a description of a woman or endorse Eddie Izzard standing as a woman in as a Labour candidate. His head will fall off one day when he speaking and pecking like a chicken. He had the opportunity to absolutely demolish Sunak at PMQ but failed to deliver a killer blow. Richard Burgon the droning Leftie is a millionaire as I guess a few of the Labour bunch are but bang on about ‘taxing the rich’ to pay for everything. That won’t raise the £30bn we need just to balance the books. Everybody will have to contribute is we are to pay public sector workers what they are worth. The NHS is a money pit. £60m spent on translators last year. £60,000,000.00 folks. £7,000,000.00 a day keeping illegal migrants feed and warm in Hotels. We are being taken for fools as usual, the Woke brigade are costing us billions.
Has to be a parody post surely. It's like if someone slammed together the most popular daily mail headlines.

I know exactly what you mean. Starmer and the wokey Labour brigade have ruined the NHS, especially last year by spending so much on translators and illegal immigrants. I'd argue that over the last twelve years Labour have done more damage to the UK with their lefty ideals than the party who are actually in power and making decisions. Just yesterday when I was looking at how much my gas bill was I KNEW it was because some wokey cnut in Bristol with a foreign sounding name was eating avocado toast.

@rimaldo I'm pretty sure it's against the rules to have two accounts, even if one of them is a parody.

Regarding those expense figures (and I don’t know whether they are accurate), the Bank of England had to promise to spend up to £65 billion to clean up the entirely predictable mess caused by Truss and Kwarteng. Anyway, it makes a change at least to see Daily Mail btl comments here.

At least it wasn't £60,000,000.99 That would be a disgrace.

On another note, your post is deluded.

They're in hotels because there's no social housing... because it's all been flogged by successive neoliberal governments. And if "illegal migrants" are a net drain at any point on the public purse it's because the government doesn't let them work. Skills shortage but they're not allowed to work FFS, just sit there costing public money having to survive in disgusting conditions because of inhuman, incompetent, wasteful government.

My town has recently started housing refugees and I did wonder if there is any particular reason they are not able to work in the country even if they wanted to?

Yes I can hear you Clem Fandango!
For the basic among us here, can you describe exactly what happened and the implication?
Very popular local black Councillor, life long anti racist, endorsed by the unions, applied to be on the long list of candidates for the seat of Camberwell and Peckham as ******* Harman is retiring.

Labour HQ then set out to find any reason to kick him off the long list because he was going to win.

Local party not happy.

Similar is happening at CLPs across the country.

Cheers. Why exactly? Too left or too black?

I would say too left wing. There is an obsession with getting "reasonable" MPs that won't offend the electorate which will likely lead to a middle aged white guy getting chosen.

But this exacerbates the fact that Labour have a big problem nationally in not selecting people of colour for councils let alone for Westminster. Down in the south east region an independent report into selecting Council candidates found the process was institutionally racist.

Thanks.
I haven’t been in this thread for a while and thought given everything that’s happened in Westminster, plus the massive poll lead, that it’s be a fairly happy read. Oh boy

Isn't this to ensure Labour doesn't spend another 12 years wandering in the wilderness and in the process continually letting its people down. True the Tories are to blame, but who has been giving them a free ride at GE's?

You have to deal with the electorate you have, rather than the one you would wish for!

The constant internal battles within the Labour party are tedious.

I imagine the leadership know that if they win the next election, there's a very good chance they'd need to form a coalition or would have a pretty narrow majority (I'd be shocked if they can win a majority along the lines of Blair's 3rd win in 2005). Under that scenario the block of left-wing Labour MPs would wield a lot of power, and be able to make demands in exchange for not inflicting numerous Commons defeats on the (still hyopthetical) Starmer government. On the flipside, had the last election 'somehow' (as increasingly far-fetched as that looked during the campaign) for a Corbyn led administration, the sizeable number of 'centre left' / 'centrist' Labour MPs hostile to him (much larger than the current block of 'left wing' MPs) would have had tremendous power and surely have forced him to water down his programme significantly.

So from their perspective, the fewer MPs / candidates at the next election on the left of the party, the better.

I think the elephant in the room is that, in the Labour Party as well as in the country at large, there's a degree of latent racism (both conscious and unconscious) and a general level of small-c conservatism which combine to lead many to look upon left-wing POC more negatively (or perhaps, even more negatively) than they see POC or radical politics individually. You don't have to look hard to see that our political culture, at all levels, is a rough ride for POC who dare to voice left-wing beliefs, criticise powerful institutions or generally talk about racism in the present tense.

In 'progressive' middle class liberal circles, such as the Labour Party, that sentiment often manifests as a tendency to infantilise left-wing POC and ascribe their opinions to ignorance or irrationality.

The Labour Party internally is still in the perpetual 'Mexican standoff' state it was when I left years ago and consequentially it has given the Tories a free ride for years; and as a result, has let down millions of people across the country, but in particular in the areas outside the major conurbations.

In 2018, Jewish News had revealed McLeod to have been one of two councillors who walked out of the council chamber in Wandsworth ahead of a vote to adopt the IHRA definition of antisemitism into the council’s codes of conduct.

McLeod’s supporters claimed the decision to exclude him was down to racism.

But it subsequently emerged that the local Labour party had approved an all BAME list of candidates for the selection.
Him... the guy who opposes the IHRC definitions then plays the race card then when its pointed out its an all BAME list plays the left wing card

You mean a member of the Labour NEC directly commentating on the issue people were talking about - yeah I think thats pretty valid - though if you want to explain to me which flavours of antisemitism you feel would aid a labour candidate feel free
Luke Akehurst is despicable and anyone who endorses what he says should not be listened to.

is it this you disagree with?
We know from the panels we serve on that there are still party members propagating bizarre tropes about the Rothschilds controlling global politics and smaller numbers who promote equally vile racist prejudices about Muslims, Hindus, Gypsies and Black people. Not only does the presence of racism within Labour contradict every value of equality we are supposed to uphold as democratic socialists – but unless we deal with it decisively we won’t be viewed as fit to govern.
This?
I’m proud of the work we have done implementing the Equalities and Human Rights Commission recommendations on antisemitism, proscribing groups that whitewashed it, speeding up the parliamentary selection process to make it more accessible, restructuring our staff to stabilise the party’s finances and changing the rulebook to stop MPs constantly having to look over their shoulder at deselection and to ensure any future leader is picked by our current members, not by who does best at 2015-style mass recruitment.
Perhaps this?
We don’t have to tolerate racists or anti-democratic Leninists who don’t share our values, or entryists who owe their loyalty to some other party, or people who don’t want to see Keir beat the Tories. We need to use the rulebook to take action against bad practices and stitch-ups and use our organisers to spread best practice and campaigning excellence.
Probably this?
With a general election so close, it is essential that members vote for an NEC that will get Labour fighting fit to take on the Tories and win, not one that will undermine the leadership and drag us back into the chaos of the Corbyn period.

At times like these the veil between the worlds grows thin and @sun_tzu's deep commitment to the fight against anti-semitism is briefly allowed to manifest in the mortal realm
