MVG at his best.
Absolutely and Dobey played well.
Can he replicate that standard tonight vs Wright ... unlikely but if he does it's lights out for the rest, he's simply untouchable playing like that. Two excellent semis in prospect

Price vs Aspinall

MVG vs Wright.

Great to see Aspinall beat Price. I was worried he'd let him back into it but he managed to finish.

MVG basically destroyed Wright. Made him seem like he'd been invited to the competition as an act of charity rather than a top 3 seed.

:lol:Wright reclaimed the world number one spot through making it through to the semi. Didn't exactly do it in style, but some consolation I suppose.
Brilliant bottle from Asp.

MvG is well and truly back.
We will see at the Ally Pally.

The Grand Prix features such short format matches that anyone who fell behind was pretty much fecked.

In the World Championship there's slightly more margin for error so he will still have to up his game from what he's shown this last week or so.

He beat Price to win the World Matchplay which is a very long format. The Prem as well, so three big majors and he's clearly back.

Sounds daft to say of a triple world champion, but his record is underwhelming at Ally Pally, given he's won most of the other biggies five or six times.

There is no doubt in my mind when you think of the breakthrough he made, and the talent he had - just when Taylor was on the way out - he should have won at least twice as many World Championships.

People like Lewis and Anderson who managed to win multiple titles are no mugs but I agree, MvG has underachieved in the Ally Pally years.

Having said that, if he's got his hunger back then yes he's capable of winning a few more, but only at his best.

Would agree, although as you say peak Lewis and Ando, and Wright, his first title in particular, were amazing.

MVG has defo regained his confidence and resilience, even if he isn't hitting the mental averages so much. I reckon he's got a portion of his fear factor back too- good record against Price as well, which I like.

Josh Rock will be one hell of a player, just won his first players championship event with a 108 AVG in the final.

I watched that and he was brilliant. Humphries played well hitting ten 180s and averaging 103 as well. It was a great match played at such a quick pace.
Wright only squeezed past him 6-5 the other day too and he's been bang back on form.

You can understand the hype about Rock - he looks like he could win stacks of tournaments if he plays like that.

Yeah could be the next big thing. Predict a solid world championship from him.

Speaking of Chizzy, looked excellent v Bunting, averaging c107 and 6/9 on doubles.
He looks a bit tubby at the moment, but Bunting looked massive.

Price and MVG out. I’m loving this new era of darts, anybody can beat anybody.
It also shows what a freak of nature Phil Taylor was

That Smith-Rock match was as good a match as I've seen in ages. Epic game, with amazing scoring and finishing. Hell of an end to it too.

The tournament has been so far- the standard has been phenomenal at times.

6 in a row for Greaves, now only £250 behind Fallon Sherrock in the race to Ally Pally, with the last 2 Woman series to come tomorrow.

Good chance of getting a new major winner tonight, with only Wright and Noppert of the eight quarter finalists having one won before.

Humphries - Chizzy final or rerun of the worlds with Smith - Wright?

If someone told me there be a new winner, I wouldn’t have said Ross Smith, fair play he’s played great, that monster comeback vs Wright was special

Last 2 Players championship of the year today and tomorrow and as things stand there will be no Ian White, Ryan Joyce or Devon Petersen

Are they set to lose their tour cards? Thought Joyce had had a couple of runs in minor Euro events this year? Peterson and White have fallen off the radar.
