I already get the feeling Sunday is going to be a shambles with the weather.
They're giving loads of extra playing time and Monday as a reserve day too.

Still, stop start play won't be conducive to an exciting game.

What's the official UK start time? I've seen 08:00 BST, but we're not on BST, we're on GMT. At least we're going to be able to watch it on Ch4.

It is 8am, I imagine that’s just an oversight where we started the tournament on BST and nobody told them

Yep, feels like the PSL is being taken more serously all the time
I think it's credit to England to allow their secondary players, or even their first team players who don't play all formats, to freely play in other leagues. I remember even Eion Morgan playing some matches for Peshawar a few years back because England were playing tests then.

It's also why England are ahead of other teams in white ball cricket. Their players have played all over the world and can easily adapt to all conditions. It's something some of the other nations should learn from, especially India. It shouldn't be enough to just let them play in your league and IPL.

Hopefully the PCB can also stop being c*nts and allow our players to play in some of the bigger leagues and not force them to play in domestic, non-franchise, t20 tournaments.

ODI WC is in India so we have a better chance than usual of winning. Problem is they won't have the gumption to start Gill as an opener when he is tailor made for ODI format. Similarly will back other experienced players. Bizarre that we are completely unable to find a gun spinner now when almost every top nation has it. Time to offer Rashid, Indian citizenship...
What happened to Kuldeep Yadav?

I'd rather they reduce it to a t10 from the off rather than have the match tarred by duckworth Lewis feckwittery

Although I would love to see Indian players being allowed to play in overseas league but India did not lose because of that. We lost because of our team selection. Even if Sanju Samson had scored a 100 in big bash, he wouldn't have been picked. I would say for India semis exit is appropriate. You don't win WC when you carry 4 or 5 passengers in your team and that's what we did.

Also, I just don't see BCCI sending their reserve players let alone first teamers. Dravid spoke very well yesterday where he was asked the same question and he just said they don't want the domestic circuit to be impacted and their primary focus no matter what is red ball cricket.

In the last two world cups India have won one against Pakistan & lost against Pakistan,Nz.South Africa and England. That’s pretty awful tbh

While it's smart for them to have a back up day in Monday - wouldn't it have been a good idea to also have that day at a different location? Monday is also a wash out in Melbourne

It would also be great to see Pakistani players in the IPL.

As I understand it they're not banned, but they've been overlooked since the early days (guess it's do with the security situation in Pakistan).

But if the owners are willing to overlook this, the benefits are huge. Imagine one of the IPL teams with Babar, Rizwan, Afridi and Naseem Shah in it!

Pak players are banned. They played in the inaugural season but ever since Mumbai 2008 terrorist attack, they have not been part of the auction.

Matchgoing fans in Melbourne won't be able to watch any match at this rate.

Sure they'd prefer getting to watch it on Tele then it not happening at all.
Exactly. It’s better to have a match at least even if it’s behind closed doors at a different venue than having no match at all. I’m sure even the fans who paid for tickets for the original day would be happy with that as long as they get to see them play even if it is just on the TV.

Yeah Stokes mauled him last year didn't he. Looked like he'd lost all confidence. Shame
Might be harsh but I think he was never that amazing. Our management could have handled him better and backed him more but I doubt he was every going to be your match winner in clutch games. I will say same for Chahal. Yes, India should have played a leg spinner but Chahal would have also been mauled by Buttler and Hales.

Bishnoi is someone many Indian fans have high hopes of and again how he was unfairly dropped for no reason is another shocker by this management.

Constantly at the STD clinic.
Everyone laughed at my solutions for rain day games but currently the sport of cricket is on the verge of having a shared world cup.

As I said if we can't have T20 games go to conclusion what's even the point of this already very jammy format?

Also now that India is out and I won't be accused of sour grapes by majority Indian fans here -- T20 cricket is just so full of luck. I know cricket in general is but one day seems to balance it out somewhat.

Isn’t every sport reliant on an element of luck?

T20 is still overwhelmingly influence by skill and talent. Luck is a small part of it like every sport.

Even 90 mins of football is full of luck. I don't think something equivalent of Greece winning a Euros comp has happened in cricket yet for example. Only solution for rain wrt cricket is stadiums with roof. Eventually at least rich boards should invest in one and have big finals scheduled for same, similar to Tennis.

Must admit T20 has grown on me. But we have to do away with flat pitches and short boundaries. Anyway I'm not sure 0DIs have a place in cricket.

Yea, I can see ODIs eventually being phased out. It'd be a shame as there were some amazing series in the late 90s and early 00s in ODIs...and not forgetting the Match of the Century between South Africa and the Aussies.

I hope they keep it - they might even adapt it as a 40 over per side 'halfway house' in the future.

This starts at 9am in the UK, according to Channel 4 listings, build up from 8am.
Any update on the weather forecast? It’s looked shocking every time I’ve checked. Based on the forecast, I will be surprised to see a ball bowled on Sunday or Monday.

I actually can’t imagine an ODI game being exciting anymore. 50 overs of an innings just feels sooo long now. I feel like even players will begin to struggle to adapt to it where they have 10-15 over spells of going at 3/4 runs per over.

Is it going to be rained off?
Looking at the weather forecast, it seems to have significantly improved from what it’s been showing last couple of days. However it’s still forecast for some rain. But there might be a chance of getting at least 10 overs each.

I think both teams will be desperate to win the toss and bat second. Especially with the potential for DL method to play a big factor.
