Shit day of football after today tbh. England already through and is boring, Wales basically eliminated. Iran vs USA exciting for all the wrong reasons really. Should be a shit game but an aggressive game.netherlands V Qatar, qualified bore team vs eliminated shit team. Ecuador v Senegal the only one that's actually interesting and real things on the line.

Hoping Rashford plays as that would make it worth watching really.

Any chance Southgate bothers with changes? Probably not.

Not sure at all as he doesn't seem to like to, but I think there is a chance he shakes up the attack given all the options he has there. I do think he will put Foden in for Saka. Kane will start (and should, I think). Maybe also Rashford for Sterling and Grealish for Mount. I would have liked to see Grealish in for Mount in the USA game as it was clear from USA v Wales that their defence didn't like to be run at. Ah well.

I don't think he will change the defence or Rice and Bellingham.

You only need to watch 1 of the 2 matches and each group has a vital game

Why the wrong reasons? Should be a cracker - I remember Iran beating USA back in '98, football geopolitics !

But most likely I'll end up watching every boring minute of England A team edging past England C team

Ecuador Sénégal has plenty of potential!

It's absolutely vital that the USA beats Islamic Republic team. I've been asking every Iranian inside Iran I know about it, and nearly all of them wish the same.

Especially after more files and documents have been leaked how the regime has been planning their "Operation World Cup" to use it as a propaganda tool. If you compare the videos after the win vs. Wales (70% of those celebrating were security forces with their gear and guns) to those of 2018 (after Iran beat Morocco) or 1998 (when we beat USA), it's not even comparable. Truly shows this football win really is all about how the regime uses it, and sadly not the people's heart who is not with them.

Even Ramin Rezaeian who scored the second goal vs. Wales and posted an insta post to dedicate it to people of Iran, had to have his post deleted after 30 minutes after IRGC agents' pressure. Documents how 22,000 members of Basij militias and their families have been given tickets to Qatar to sway the atmosphere of Iran fans there and harass and pressure any protestors and dissidents with the help of Qatari police. Qatar has also promised to give the info of all Iran fans who've travelled to Qatar to IRGC authorities according to this voice file from the hacked documents of Fars News Agency (IRGC Media).

Worst of all really, is (I posted in the boycott thread), the hacked documents show Queiroz is all aware of the regime operation and he's okayed it and he's one of the main conductors of it. I guess money talks after all. Talk about ruining the legend status you built for yourself in Iran over 8 years (2011-2019)

Looks like players' families have been threatened ahead of tomorrow's game according to CNN.

Tomorrow I will actually be supporting my home country. That’s a rare occurrence.
You gotta love these guys. Diverse group of young dudes who seem to love playing the game and playing to together. After that 2018 WCQ team this is a joy.

I’m sorry but most Iranians want this team to win.

As an Iranian myself I’m frankly ashamed of the Iranian diaspora that has rallied against this team and called them traitors.

It first started with conspiracy theories about the players being on side of the government and since it was proved wrong with the news of threats to them and their families it’s another conspiracy about this so called operation.

@Hanks you need to take a break from social media mate. I hate this brutal regime and crimes that are being committed everyday. It is sad and heart breaking. Me and many of my friends and family have attended protests abroad against this regime and bringing awareness of what is happening in Iran. However, not supporting our national team and worse still wishing them to lose badly disrespects athletes that with zero support and harassment, have played with passion and their hearts. It just isn’t right. I will always support Team Melli - it is our team and not the brutal regime‘s team.

Which 2 of the matches worth watching ? 2 matches kick off at the same time.
The matches that are direct confrontations, where both teams have a clear route to the next round and where one likely sends the other home. So Senegal-Ecuador and USA-Iran.

That's what i always do, unless a team i support is involved in the other game.

Oh shit I didn't realize it's switching to just 2 time slots now. Forgot. Yeah that's fair then. Enough excitement there.

I think this is not fair to the team. I'm rooting for Iran tomorrow. The players have shown their support. Now they deserve ours.

Maybe me and you just know different Iranians. For me, it's Iranians INSIDE Iran I am in touch with everyday that are more against this team, than any diaspora. I myself have had a change of heart after listening to Iranians I know inside Iran. When you see the happiest people after Wales games were the security forces who normally are the nightmare of people and kill them, then I don't see how beating the USA will heal the wounds of the people. Even Khamenei was giggly after Wales win and mentioned it in his speech. I just can't bring myself to care too much about toop-bazi when you see all the kids and teenagers murdered last 2 months and regime using the World Cup to whitewash that. Just a personal opinion of me, that millions of other Iranians share as well.

This is not about the TM players. I don't blame them, because not everyone is a giant hero like Daei, Karimi, Boroumand, or Ghafouri. They are living with a gun over their head and some of them are genuine Basijis like Torabi, Amiri and Taremi (not sure he is still, but he was before and his family is very pro-regime).

I just say one thing. I remember the night we beat USA in 1998 very well. I was an 8 year old kid in Esfahan. There were two heroes that day: Hamid Estili and Mehdi Mahdavikia. One of them these days is pretty much disliked by all Iranian public and the other a national hero. Football comes and goes, what people do beside it is what remains.

Second bolded:It's literally in the hacked documents. I'll share them here, you can review on your own. The files are available for anyone who can read Farsi to read...I'll post a few examples of them for you. Don't want to make this a political thread about Iran, will just leave it at that.May the best team wins tomorrow. I am not here to force my opinion on anyone else. Everyone is welcome to their opinion of who to root for.

Bro This sentence really breaks my heart because I really want to believe this is the case. I was in Russia 2018 and the aftermath of beating Morocco and going to Arash's concert in the white nights of St. Petersburg was probably a top 3 day of my entire life.

I won't repeat myself, but though I respect our players and athletes and know most of them are good eggs probably, but just knowing how much the regime will use a potential victory against United States of all teams to be the first Iran team to go to Knock-Out Round, ..... I shudder. The athletes may be gutted, but I'm sure their situations isn't worse than all those kids and teenagers and young murdered.

I wish our athletes well.but if beating USA prolongs the Islamic Republic tyranny even for one day, I rather we lose.

I couldn't believe how numb I felt on Friday after such a dramatic win. It was as Cameroon had scored on Serbia. Mind-boggling....you're right. All those videos and photos coming out everyday really takes a mental toll on us.

But it's also fact that Mahsa, Nika, Kian, Sarina, Mehrshad, Khodanoor, Hamid-Reza, and hundreds of others have been killed and left this world for ever. While Toomaj is facing a potential death sentence and god knows what's happening now to two of our ex-TeamMelli players in jail (Parviz Boroumand & Vouria Ghafouri). so football is nothing in that comparison...

Appreciate your efforts in spreading the message abroad too. That's the least we can do.

if you are from india. you are 2 hours and 30 mins before me.

even worse for me.

11pm and 3am

at least i have a 2 hour window in between for a quick nap.
It wouldn't be so bad if I didn't have a weak neck. I have to watch the better matches the next morning which is tedious. Oh well, I'll just pick the (seemingly) better of the two and watch it next day pretending it's live

Starting De Roon and Janssen today with Gakpo back as a 10 it seems. God Im happy when Van Gaal and his moronic 5-3-2 are fecked off after this tournament. Expecting a tumescent 1-0 win.

I'm with @Hanks. As an Iranian leaving abroad, I've always rooted for the Iranian national team. Knowing that the regime is using any win it can to continue to brutally oppress people and watching the videos coming out of Qatar with their police helping prevent any pre revolution flag into the stadium and can't even wear a shirt that says women, life, freedom, yeah no thank you. Not rooting for Iranian national team and hoping the USA slaughters them so I can hear the joy of voices in Iran as each goal scored by the USA is celebrated.

Other iranians want to support this team, go ahead, but my family and I are rooting for the Iranian team to go down and we'll gladly celebrate it when they do. 3-0 USA win will be glorious.

It has been enlightning to read the comments from our Iranian United fans on here these last few days.
My feelings and thoughts go to the people opressed by the regime. I cannot imagine the horrors they are going through.

Could you please bring your politics discussion to the current events section? Iran will beat USA anyway.
