Well done to Switzerland, they never looked like conceding after going 3-2 up, while we were much more shaky with 2-1 lead, just like we were shaky being 3-1 up against Cameroon. Shocking defending gets you nowhere, so 1 point out of 9 possible is about right. At least we were fun to watch unlike on previous World Cups, that's a positive.

You'd expect Portugal to beat Switzerland but it could be very difficult game for them. Portugal going out would mean laughing at Cristiano (yeah I'm petty) + Bruno and Dalot getting some rest.
you are always a tough oponnent! i expect us to get spanked by portugal 4:0

Yes they‘re just in the World Cup because of Jorginho…
Not because all of the games they won previously.
I don‘t get that constant hate for the Swiss NT in here no matter how they play.
Is Switzerland generally not popular in the UK?
Did Roger won too many times against Murray?
Apparently they‘re „a waste of a nation“…
If Jorginho scored his penalty, Italy would be in instead of Switzerland though, and they got battered in both games, got saved by Sommer.

That isn't hate, it's a fact.

I think Switzerland is a competitive team, and have done well without top players, they deserve to qualify over a chaotic Serbian NT.

I've got no problem with Swiss and don't know of any reason for hate.

We were hearing a lot of talk about the 'incredible' strength in depth of Brazil over the past week or so....
I guess when you're already qualified the motivation and urgency just isn't there.

Serbia was shockingly bad this tournament, well, not that it's that much of a surprise. They bottle it every time. Still hurts to see your team lose. I don't care about the politics. Fair play to Shaqiri and Xhaka.

I'm also 100% convinced Pavlovic has dirt on influencial people within the association and he blackmailed them into playing him, he has to be one of the worst professional football players I have seen in the last couple of years. He's Fellaini, but from the Balkans. Our crackhead village idiot in Bor could even fill his role and do better.

Here in The Netherlands people talk about having a lesser generation of footballers right now, but think about this: we went from Kolarov, Vidic and Ivanovic to these circus clowns.

what most people dont get we are a small nation with less population than london we do what we have to give us the best chances. Also we are always good for some slap stick moments and recently we provide randomly some of the best games of the entire tournament so yes haters we dont care

this match could have easily gone like '4-1 to serbia . great group of talents but you never know which way its gonna go with them.. too emotional and hot headed for my taste but very good players

So Brazil, Argentina, France, Spain, Portugal have all lost to teams ranked under the USA in the world rankings but England are terrible and having an awful cup because of a 0-0 draw vs. a team in the second round? It’s sometimes tough finding reason.
Tbf Brazil France and Portugal were already qualified and almost guaranteed 1st when they started those games.

Serbia gets really lucky with their qualification draws, but this system does not work against better teams, especially when your defense is this horrible. They played well against Portugal in the qualifiers but the level of all the other countries they faced (Nations League included) is not at the same level as the teams you face here in a WC. I'm never a fan of wingbacks and Kostic' lazy attitude at the 2-2 is a major examply why.

There are some great and some promising players but as a whole this team is an overrated bunch. Piksi is at fault here too. I like coaches that go for an attacking approach, but he simply does not have the tools in the back to make it work. If he played a 4 man defense, Serbia's chances would have been drastically better in my opinion. Switzerland and Brazil are not Luxemburg and Ireland.

On paper they should have done better but the reality is these players are mentally soft, tactically unaware and physically unfit (they gassed out in the 65th minute).

Care to elaborate? When CAF, AFC, Concacaf get so many places, it seriously dilutes the level of competition in the World Cup.
If we wanted to watch European teams, we'd watch the Euros. It's the World Cup. Europe already gets the biggest representation don't they? Which I think is fair, due to the fact that European nations are of higher levels. A balance has to be struck though.

It's fair because there are more European nations than any other region, if there's any over-representation it's probably the North, Central and South American regions

There are just as many African NTs than European ones. CAF lists 54 full members (+ guests) while UEFA lists 55 (including Russia which is currently suspended).

Very disappointed by Brazil. They were poor tonight. There is no great team at this World Cup.
To be fair it was their second team and also you can’t judge until the knockouts.

Africa also don’t have Gibraltar, Liechenstein and San Marino countries with fewer than 50,000 people adding to the numbers. A few small countries there too by fewer small ones.

What?? They didn't even have 4 goal chances.....

This game should've been done and settled by Switzerland at HT if anything. They let them come back with 2 pretty stupid errors but switched it again.
Serbia needed 2 from 70' onwards but couldn't even create one single chance.

In the end a good, controlled game. Should've scored a few more to top the group but I guess they didn't expect Brazil to lose...

So who would win in El Salvador vs Syria?

Who would win in France vs Israel?
El Salvador and Syria could qualify but they'll not be drawn in the same group.

France's last 2 games against Israel both ended in draws.

Agree with the bolded part, and I'd say the allocation right now has some balance to it.

The allocation in 4 years time is heavily against UEFA sides.

Actually we needed Portugal to come second in the group then would have sent them across to other side of draw.

Whereas if Brazil had been dropped to second by Switzerland then it further stacked England's side of the draw.

Ye I thought the same. Haven’t really impressed this tournament. Look miles better with Neymar on the pitch.
Guess he is back on Monday, pretty sure he was only gonna miss two group games.

That would have been an absolute pisstake. Argentina getting Australia, NL/US and then their semi being with Croatia, Japan, Korea or Switzerland.

That's what they conveniently said, word in Rio already is he isn't making it.

Kicking myself now, with no Neymar they were there for the taking.

Still got more than enough to beat Korea & Japan if that ends up becoming reality

Don't think he comes back before the semis (if we make it). Only scenario where I see him coming back earlier is as a sub in a desperate situation if we're chasing a goal.

Once again UEFA contribute half the last 16, yet somehow they only get 1/3 of the WC places in 4 years time.
That’s the principle of the World Cup. Nothing wrong with that. If anything, CAF should get more seats from CONCACAF.

Nine spots for CAF, eight for AFC and six for Concacaf for the next World Cup sounds just about right, but I agree that an extra spot for Africa would be ideal in this current World Cup format. CAF qualifying is brutal and I'd have loved to see Mali or the Ivory Coast competing in this World Cup of comebacks and upsets.

And while I'm at it, Oceania doesn't deserve half a spot, let alone a full spot, in neither this format nor the upcoming one. Winner i.e. New Zealand go straight to the final round of AFC qualifying.

That's why there is a imposter over at AFC..

I thought Breel Embolo was very good yesterday. Strong, fast and holding the ball for Swiss attackers to link up.
