Switzerland are terribly boring and most likely won't trouble Portugal, but it's always funny to see these bottling thugs go out.
Didn't they play recently in nations league? Swiss are tricky to break down so could be one of those games that's still 0-0 by the hour mark and certainly low scoring.

There was a shot of the Swiss fans and there was an old bloke with a horned hat on rocking back and forth and it looked like he was doing the lad in front

Guy just wanted to go out with a bang, legend status imo
He'll be up there with Massing.

Why don't you just watch the African Cup of Nations, Asian Cup etc?

The point is the World Cup should be about having the best teams in it.
Best doesn't mean shit.

Every team has a chance to qualify. If you don't you're not good enough to be there, if you do you are.

yeah I know but why is it a bad thing for more African teams to participate?
Because good performance should be awarded and not penalized.

CAF are contributing 2/16 (12.5%) teams in the knockout stage.

They currently have 5/32 (15.6%) teams in the world cup, which seems reasonable, yet they're getting 9.33/48 teams (19.4%) next time.

Failure is being rewarded.

No team managed to win 9 points, I'm pretty sure it didn't happen often.

Only 1 team has lost a game in the group stages and gone on to win a world cup.

Brazil, Spain, Portugal and Argentina have all lost thus far.

Edit: France too!

England and Netherlands are the two unbeaten heavyweights left.

We came one Swiss goal away from facing Brazil. It would be what Santos deserved.

After the group stages, I'd say Morocco have had the most impressive results.
Japan.

If someone told you that Japan will lost against Costa Rica, and still top the group that has Spain and Germany on it, it would have looked ridiculous.

Wrong. It’s about each continents best facing off to crown the best.

Each continents best is decided by way of a qualification campaign, and that is how we ended up where we have, with 32 deserving teams competing. Not Europe and some invitations in the post that are deemed “worthy”
Each confederations' best normally make it with little issue. The point is having the 9th best CAF team and 8th best AFC team will inevitably make the quality of the competition lower than having the 17th best UEFA team.

So just stick to the Euros. That’s your choice, Europe already is over represented.

Suisse are an organized and good team, will give Portugal a tough game.

Serbia oh the other hand has been complete shamles, especially for a team who was by some called a dark horse. 8 goals conceded in 3 games.

About the same tbh but a very good shout tbh. Still 7 pts, 1 goal conceded and topping the group too against the vice word champion and the team that finished 3rd.

Serbia as a team is pure chaos, they have great players...certainly better players than Switzerland, playing for bigger clubs...but they are so imbalanced as a team and can't defend.

Switzerland under their new manager is so feckin boring to watch... but they know how to grind results, and also got a bit lucky with Jorginho missing his penalty.

Doesn't matter. Martinelli is either getting a shot away or passing it across goal for a tap in.

It's no different than what Ole Solskjaer did. At least TRY to win the ball not just grab him like a rugby tackle
No chance that's a red card. It happens all the time. Remember Cheillini against Saka in the eutros?

Best group stage EVER
I think it needs to be compartmentalised

First round of games a mixed bag

Secound round similar but a little better

Third absolutely batshit crazy and best round of games I’ve ever seen in a world cup

some say football is boring because there are so few goals when in fact its what makes this game so exciting 1 or 2 goals can mean the world

This tournament belongs to Brazil, they’ve got such an easy passage to the final, South Korea in the next round and a possible tie with Japan in the quarters. The Swiss didn’t turn up against them in the group stages whilst Serbia were just lame.

Don't get me started on Conmebol, back then you used to get at least 4 into the last 16 regularly, now you have 2, yet 60%+ of teams qualify?
We have 10 teams, 4 (40%) qualify and 1 has a playoff.

In 2010 we had four in the quarters, that because Brazil eliminated Chile in R16
In 2014 we had four in the quarters, that because Brazil eliminated Chile and Colombia eliminated Uruguay in R16
In 2018 we only got two in the quarters because Argentina lost to France and Colombia lost to England in R16, Peru exited at group stage

We've been shite this time with only Brazil and Argentina going through. Ecuador and us let the region down not getting into R16 which is the standard par for the course. Australia stopped Peru making it, and delivered, no complaints there clearly.

Let's see in 4 years time if a team like Syria or El Savador (they'd have made the playoffs based on the qualifying this time with the 48 places in 2026) make it and lose all 3 games whilst conceeding 10+ goals. How interesting that'd be for everyone.

Qatar looked completely useless in this WC and they're miles better than the likes of Syria.

It’s be more interesting than watching Scotland vs Israel for the 700th time in the last 5 years
