You just need to look at the reaction to the loss at the weekend. How it was such a "missed opportunity" because it's Morocco in the semi final. A team that have beat more top nations at this tournament alone than England have in about 40-50 years. But yeah, no one could really accuse the English of ever being a wee bit arrogant.

It was a missed opportunity mate, not really up for debate is it?

Some very selective reading of stats there. England would have gone off odds on shots with bookies in Peru/Madagascar/wherever.

Yeah if drunk people sing it then it must be serious
Ah fair point. Drunk people definitely never say what they mean.

I'll give them a pass next time they riot or sing shite like '10 German bombers'. Cheers for that.

Besides, drunkard was me being kind. I was referring to the violent, racist, xenophobic arseholes that shame England every tournament they go to. Well known for taking the piss out of themselves, that lot.

Which is all England fans obviously, and we're the only ones that do it!

Whenever I've spoken about this kind of topic with Scottish and Welsh people I have met, they have always said the same thing. It's the football team that they have most issue with and love seeing them fail. When it comes to other sports, they don't take as much (or any) joy in seeing them lose.

Yeah because there’s zero football violence or hooliganism in Scotland:confused:

we have a rivalry with Serbia for obvious reasons, but we play so rarely that there's very little hate left between us. they seem to hate the Swiss now

the French somehow became a pain the ass for us. beat us in 1998. and in 2018. same story in handball, if not worse. we're such a small country anyway so there's few team sports we are trully great at, but of course, it just happen that French are also invested at those same sports.

at least they don't play water polo :annoyed:
After we beat England on saturday, my daughter realised a remake of the 2018 final could be possible, and was wondering how Croatians would feel about France if we happen to meet in the final and we beat them, since we already beat them the 2 times we won the WC. Both of those times you could argue that Croatia was the second best team in the tournament (lost in the 2018 final and in 1998 we needed the Thuram miracle to beat them). If it wasn't for us you could have 2 WCs already.

Germany has the biggest rivalries with Netherlands and Italy, in a footballing sense, although I feel it is not as strong as it used to be. With England it is more of a one-sided thing, there isnt much animosity towards the english national team in this country.

So you don't think it's disrespectful to Morocco who have achieved more and beaten better teams than England have not only at this tournament but at every tournament since at least 1966?

Yes England would be bookmakers favourite. What's that got to do with anything? Morocco will have been underdogs in every game they've played. So what?

So therefore it was a missed opportunity for England...It's not rocket science fella. If you think Morocco would have beaten us, fair enough. But i think you might be missing the point through your rage posting.

Not like Rangers fans have come down to Manchester for a cup final and trashed the place though is it. Oh wait
You do realise that Rangers fans absolutely align with the same arseholes I was referring to in the England fanbase, right?

Genuinely not the gotcha you think it was.

Did they genuinely think it was coming home as well?

Deepthroating information to Howard Nurse.

Welsh people definitely don’t support England at rugby and take immense joy in seeing them lose. Well at least I do. Football I’m pretty neutral on. Although I did find Kane missing by so much funny I did want him to score before he skied it as the game was a great watch.

The implication from the pundits was that they'd never have a better shot at getting to a final than this one. I personally think that is incredibly disrespectful to a team who have achieved more and have beaten better teams than England have in generations. I'm sure you can grasp that but you're continuing to argue in bad faith for some reason.

no-one in particular
It was quite something to see how much the Dutch and Argentine's despised each other. I know they've had amicable enough big games in past majors, but they've also had some genuine bad blood. Does it all stem from the 70's (Cruyff was appalled by Independiente in the 1972 Intercontinental Cup) with Ajax and then '78, or is there more to it than that? Is Argentina's 'beef' against Van Gaal, or is there a deeper gripe?
I've been quite surprised to find out, also from my boss yesterday, that the Netherlands apparently have a rivalry with Argentina. I've never been aware of that. Certainly the 1978 final is regretted, but I've never noticed that it led to lingering feelings against Argentina in the Netherlands. Recent games (1998 quarter finals, 2014 semis) have also just been games. I think it's just the heat of the moment during the match and the Argentinians taking exception at what are really just some typical Van Gaal quotes.

Even the Dutch rivalry with Germany is now purely performative; there's no real rivalry left. Maybe some very old people still really feel that way, but in general - nah. Belgium used to be another rival and those matches used to be very highly contested, but I think that was gone already by the 90s, probably even earlier.

If you ask me, Dutch international football is now mostly just a carnival for the fans.

The English football team is hated by most in Trinidad and their failures are actively reveled in, because in our first and only ever World Cup, in a match where we were close to holding England to a draw, Peter Crouch pulled on the hair of one of our players and used that to elevate himself above him and score, and we then went on to lose.

Due to the United players, I can’t say I hate the English team as much as most of my countrymen do, but I certainly do enjoy laughing at their faltering.

For me it’s justice.

Edit: It’s an interesting dynamic for me because I love England the country, it’s been a second home for me for most of my life (and will likely become a first home soon) and all the people I know there are great and I am very fond of them. But I can’t bring myself to ever really want The football team to do well. Maybe in the future that might change.

Its worse that you’re searching for something to be offended about and using that as a vehicle to do so. Pretty shameful infact.
Ah yes, disagreeing with the intention of a football chant is worse than mocking mental health and telling people they need help days after someone essentially posts a suicide note on the forum.

Get a fecking grip mate.

You’re utterly clueless about any of it including what went on here the other day.

Using that to point score is rather low.

Well done.

For Ireland it was France for several years after the Hand of Henry.

But we’ve recently forgiven them…

They aren’t Scottish though because they align with the scummy English.

Get with it!
Again, not my point.

I am now convinced you're being wilfully ignorant.

Yes, Scottish football fans have their large share of scumbags. No one is denying that. I'm just questioning why it's at all relevant to a discussion about English fans?

Whataboutery in a debate is the absolute lowest of the low. Which is fitting for a guy mocking mental health days after someone posts about committing suicide on the forum.

I'd have more respect for you if you'd just hold your hands up and say you fecked it with your initial post instead of trebling down.

Who is trying to point score? You posted it, I called it a horrible post, and you doubled down with some 'well actually, your post was the shameful one' pish.

I couldn’t care less about what respect Pink Moon off the internet has for me. You’re clearly not a particularly nice individual who I don’t have any time for anyway.

If you believe I’ve mocked mental health please report it to the mods and see what response you get.

Our strongest football rivalry is with Denmark. They won the Euros here in 92 despite us being better than them; we defeated them in the group stage, but we lost the semifinal to Germany, and they won the trophy... The playoff to Euro 2016 was one of those memorable moments.

Now we are starting to hate Norway as well. Norway used to be so poor at football nobody cared about them, while being much better at winter sports (we tell ourselves that we are competing, but we are nowhere near their level in those sports). Now it is football as well, over the last 18 months, they've performed much better than us and send us packing to league C in the NL.

I - as an austrian - of course am hating the Germans. I could argue its because Austria had to somehow find an own itendity due to the ban to reunite with the germans after ww2. Or that it's because of the general inferiority complex we Austrians have about our big neighbor.

On the other hand, do you really need a reason to despise the Germans?
