I personally am still not too bothered if he joins them because even though he's a good player, I don't think he addresses a core need for us. However, if Ten Hag truly wanted him you worry about how he'll take this news.

To me he doesn't make a massive amount of sense for us so it's not a loss. I'd like to see someone natural down the middle. Not a bit of this and a bit of that, primarily off the left, or a "project striker." He'd probably work for Liverpool as they have options down the middle that we simply do not at this time.

Not fussed. Good player but as has been said many times on here, he isn't what we need.

We need a striker.

Would have been way more than that if we wanted him, as has been reported.
Probably. Don't disagree. But my original point is that he hasn't done anything to warrant double or even 50+ ( he was agreed for 31m in the summer. )

Liverpool will be favourite for the fourth spot unless United do something in the window now, I don't think they will. Surely Arsenal are better positioned to sign Felix too? Could be one last f*ck you from the Glazers.

ETH signings have been good in fairness. Just don't think we need to sign, Gakpo. Would prefer to sign an actual 9 in the summer. Not saying he wouldn't be a success wherever he ends up. We are broke and up for sale. Who knows what the hell is going on in the background. As long as the Glazers own us we can at least assume it resembles a circus.

Even if you're not bothered, which I think a lot of us sort of fall into that category to varying degrees. He will strength Liverpool, and it's annoying to see them gain another attacker who will change games for them. We're still calling upon the likes of Elanga.

Alabama but always Wales in my heart
I am not that sure ETH wants him that much. We were clearly keen in the summer when we were also looking at Antony but I think it was always an either or situation. I think our prior interest has been used by PSV to drum up business and try to inflate his price.

Maybe this is a CR7 + Alexis Sanchez --> Man City type situation; trying to force Utd's hand for an underwhelming player.
Don't think Klopp gives a feck about playing those sort of reverse psychology games tbf.

He just cares about improving his team

no he wasn’t. PSV always stated they want record breaking transfer for Gakpo (Lozano, 45 mln)

Interesting that Liverpool have moved for him. Diaz and Jota might be out but they're still well stocked in the LW position. Carvalho and Elliott have both had minutes there for them.

Might explain why Klopp played Oxlade-Chamberlain there today if he was trying to prove some point.

I still maintain that I'd rather see us sign an actual centre forward than Gakpo, though. If we did sign him it was always going to be a signing of convenience, rather than what was best for the balance of the squad.

I don't know, fortunately that's not my job as I don't think I'd be very good at it. We have people employed to figure this stuff out.
We do and they’ve identified Cody Gakpo. So unless you know better just got with it.

I personally still think there's two spots up for grabs even with how well Newcastle are playing and I think we can definitely grab one of those two spots. However, we need a morale booster signing this window for sure. Something that markedly improves us and lifts everyone's spirits at the club.

People really need to cool it with the "Ten Hag will be furious" comments.

Anybody who thinks Ten Hag was screwed over in the summer needs their head checked. He wanted Licha and got him. He wanted Eriksen and got him. He wanted Antony and got him. He wanted Malacia and got him. He didn't get Frenkie De Jong but instead got multiple Champions League winner and world class defensive midfielder Casemiro.

It's not reasonable to expect that the manager will get every single player he wants, and so far Ten Hag has done pretty well with transfers if we're being honest. I don't think it's actually unreasonable for us to hang fire with Gakpo either; he's obviously a talented player but the player we badly need is a striker and it's not entirely obvious that Gakpo fits the mould.

That's sort of how I feel. I was never convinced that signing a left winger who I'm not sure is top quality was the long-term answer to our issue up front but it gives a rival even more options while we lack depth pretty much across the squad and we've seen that Klopp has been able to maximise the talent of attacking players.

This is quite good news, he doesnt make them much better. Just gives them more options, Diaz and Jota are much better.

We don't need him.

It's also funny that it was 55-60m€ a day ago, now PSV wants less than 45m€ from the scousers. PSV can go do one.
