We do and they’ve identified Cody Gakpo. So unless you know better just got with it.
Is Cody Gakpo the only person in the world they've identified then? Pretty worrying.

All clubs are continually identifying players for every position, even if they're not the immediate priority. I don't know what the thinking is. Nobody does that's why its pointless over analysing stuff in the media. I just think from my point of view he doesn't look the right player.

Interesting that Liverpool have moved for him. Diaz and Jota might be out but they're still well stocked in the LW position. Carvalho and Elliott have both had minutes there for them.

Might explain why Klopp played Oxlade-Chamberlain there today if he was trying to prove some point.

I still maintain that I'd rather see us sign an actual centre forward than Gakpo, though. If we did sign him it was always going to be a signing of convenience, rather than what was best for the balance of the squad.
Carvalho isn’t good enough. I had high hopes for him but he’s timid and struggles to make an impact. Elliott plays on the right mostly. Doak came on today but he’s really young.

He would actually fit their system better than he would Ten Hag.

Downside would be that he'd play for Liverpool.

It's also funny that it was 55-60m€ a day ago, now PSV wants less than 45m€ from the scousers. PSV can go do one.
When this kind of thing happens it’s obvious it’s a ploy to smoke Liverpool out. These discussions will have been going on privately for weeks most likely. Only breaks when it’s close.

It’s not as worrying as you who seems to know what we need but can’t identify one player.

I think the answer is somewhere in the middle.

The Glazers were always going to let us down one last time (at least). This comes as no surprise to anyone.

I know some fans on here aren't bothered by him but if the manager was then this isn't a good thing at all.

So now people suddenly rate him?
I personally don't understand the reluctance to sign him. Sancho has been inconsistent, Rashford has played well but isn't clinical. Antony is more of a progressive creative winger than a goal threat and you wonder why the club don't have a positive goal difference. A player who had a decent world cup run, is scoring in his domestic league the reports out of the clubs sources is that the manager sees him as a replacement for Ronaldo. It's anything but positive.

I think our summer business was average, two older players in Eriksen / Casemiro pivotal first team players. Over paid for Anthony and Malacia who will need time behind Luke Shaw. Martinez a solid undoubtedly. The loss of Greenwood, Ronaldo and Sancho who's not match fit, it's a desperate situation. Summer is a luxury United don't have time to wait for. When the fringe squad players come into games there's a massive drop off in the teams performance.

I am not that sure ETH wants him that much. We were clearly keen in the summer when we were also looking at Antony but I think it was always an either or situation. I think our prior interest has been used by PSV to drum up business and try to inflate his price.
I agree.

I think the introduction of Garnacho has likely turned our attention away from Gakpo.

We have at least 3 players who are best utilised on the left in Sancho, Rashford and Garnacho. And we have Bruno as the second striker/#10 with Eriksen also being comfortable in that role.

Of course we need a striker, and I think the club/ten Hag are looking for a striker in the mould of Vlahovic or Sesko. But like I've said before, I'd personally take a chance on the young Feyenoord midfielder, Orkun Kokcu ahead of Gakpo. Because Kokcu is very comfortable playing as the deep roaming playmaker which we lack and would provide the craft and guile in the deeper phases of play.

Maybe Utd havent had interest since the summer, and people just believed everything they were reading re. Gakpo

Reading this and Klopp's comments about doing a similar deal to Diaz if it made sense, and Gakpo to Lpool must have been in the works for a few days

Moves the needle much more for Liverpool than he does for us. We need a striker not another LW.

Even if you're not bothered, which I think a lot of us sort of fall into that category to varying degrees. He will strength Liverpool, and it's annoying to see them gain another attacker who will change games for them. We're still calling upon the likes of Elanga.
Yeah I wasn't sold on him for us as a striker we need but it's frustrating to see Liverpool adding another goal threat for January 1st while we look so light. He'll slot straight into their LW.

He isn't what we need and I'm glad the club haven't indulged ETH on this one to be honest. It's obvious that we won't be signing anyone until the club is sold anyway, we're fecking skint.

Bit bizarre if that amount is true. If we seriously don't sign anyone next month  :nervous: we must have other plans, to not get the player who clearly wants to come and the manager clearly wants?
We do have other plans and those are, for this to be someone else's problem in a few months.

I'm a pleb on a forum the same as you, it makes no odds whether I've done due diligence. It's not my responsibility to go and find Man Utd a striker and I have no interest in scouring Europe to put names forward.

I'd sooner that Ramos guy for a start. He's a centre forward. I'd probably sooner Felix as well and I would have some reservations on the type of player he is, but especially as a loan it could be more beneficial than gambling on this guy for a full fee when he probably wants to play off the left. So that's two, a professional scout should have many names.

Welp, that's that then

All the months of talk only for it to wrap up within a few hours by our rivals

The more things change...

People really need to cool it with the "Ten Hag will be furious" comments.

Anybody who thinks Ten Hag was screwed over in the summer needs their head checked. He wanted Licha and got him. He wanted Eriksen and got him. He wanted Antony and got him. He wanted Malacia and got him. He didn't get Frenkie De Jong but instead got multiple Champions League winner and world class defensive midfielder Casemiro.

It's not reasonable to expect that the manager will get every single player he wants, and so far Ten Hag has done pretty well with transfers if we're being honest. I don't think it's actually unreasonable for us to hang fire with Gakpo either; he's obviously a talented player but the player we badly need is a striker and it's not entirely obvious that Gakpo fits the mould.
Agree with this. He will do well for Liverpool under Klopp but it's a bit of a strange one for them given they would seem to have bigger needs in midfield.

Either ETH doesn't want him or does and we just don't have the money.
