I'm not sure I've seen much evidence of this for United or for Portugal this season. He'll maybe bag a few goals here or there but hammer them? I'm not convinced he's capable anymore. He looks about as done as he could be.
Not a big enough sample to draw such conclusions… He clearly didn’t give a shit about scoring for United over the last 3 months. The minutes he played for Portugal he seemed capable of creating himself chances and potentially scoring.

His decline started in his last season at Juventus. And he still won Euro and Serie A golden boot that year(both for the first time, I believe). But even that version of him (with less assists) managed to keep his floor at 30 in all competition (Portugal included) over his first season with us, and he was in the PFA team of the year.

Until last season -while becoming less useful in the build up- he kept his scoring record very high. I doubt he’s lost too much of that in the last few months.

No, people are just quick to shout racism, islamophobia and xenophobia to any criticism aimed at abhorrent regimes such as Saudi Arabia.
The Qatar threads a lot of people showed their ass in regards to this. They support these abhorrent regimes because frankly they agree with them but can’t say that openly, so instead defend the countries and tell everyone to leave them alone.
So we gotta let the racist comments go unnoticed to prove we don’t support abhorrent Arab regimes… Does this logic apply elsewhere? Does one also have to tolerate antisemitism to prove one is not a supporter of the apartheid regime in Israel?

To me he looked very much the same for Portugal as he had for United previously this season. Spurned a handful of big chances, bad shots from low-percentage positions when he had better options or shots blocked, otherwise running around the pitch ineffectually trying to contribute to build-up play.

Talk about a stupid post. Where's the criticism of the Saudi "regime" in labelling people from Saudi Arabia "camel shaggers"?
Shock. Horror. Another redcafe member in denial.
Just look at the people defending the Qatar world cup and accusing people of Islamophobia just because they were against the WC being in Qatar. Then using whataboutery of the British Empire to back up the argument, and accusing people of hating on Islam and not the regime.

@Ladron de redcafe I wasn't talking about that comment, I was talking about in general, from what I seen in the World Cup thread.

It did seem to be about that comment. Just because some people are accusing Islamophobia perhaps wrongly doesn’t mean we accept blatant racism against Arabs/ Islam.

The idea Ronaldo wasn't scoring goals this season is because he didn't care is nonsense.

He wasn't scoring goals because he's finished at this level.

He was just as bad at the World Cup as he has been for Utd all season.

Why he scored little this season I dunno what's the reason but do you think he declined massively in just some months?
Last season he ended up being the 3rd best scorer of the Premier League (in a team that was a bit short on offensive situations).
I think the theory that he is suffering from depression after his son's death makes more sense, not only for this but his more erratic behaviour recently (he said he was hit harder when last season ended as his daily life in the club didn't let him much time to process and when holidays started it hit massively).

Love how the former number 7 refused his shirt so they terminated his contract

He hasn't "declined massively in just some months". Anyone who watched him play over the course of last season (actually watched the matches, not just counting stats) could see this coming. It's age, it happens.

Did you read the initial post he's referring at all?
Edit: (had some time to calm down a bit)

Was clearly a racist comment however you dress it, and your response is incredibly ignorant and ill-conceived at best.

Is camel shagger racist? I mean there are so many variants to that like sheep shagger etc. Is it because camels live near Saudi? wrong they live in other parts of Asia and Africa too.

Eddie Howe likes this.

Imagine having that pile of shite forced on you.

(Actually, the likelier outcome is that Ronaldo will get yet another wake-up call if this story is true: because whoever Newcastle's manager/head coach is next season won't play him in anything but dead rubbers: the idea that Ronaldo is still somewhere close to a top player is only entertained by his insane fan club now, and I don't think Newcastle's owners give a shit about those people - they want to do well on the pitch.)

It's always said in a derogatory manner against Arabs (including in this thread). There's no point, other than to try to deflect from said racism, to try to analyze the words in isolation.

Is it still acceptable when English folks call the welsh sheep shaggers?
Well, it's never been acceptable as such. And it's clearly potentially very offensive.

But I would argue that it's still a bit different.

If an English person calls a Welsh person a "sheep shagger", that's not a million miles away from a Manc calling a Scouser a "bin dipper" (it's worse, in my opinion, for several reasons - but it's arguably somewhere in the same ballpark, depending on context).

"Camel shagger", on the other hand, is pretty much in the "sand ni**er" category for me. It's very hard to imagine a context where it could be plausibly used without obvious animosity.

I think so too.

It doesn't help that welsh farmers were arrested for running a sheep brothel.

Would be funny to see him in attendance at a Newcastle match this season, seeing if they can qualify.
