My bad, I thought I was unclear with my writing.

I mean, it's the main transfer thing to discuss. Maybe we sign Frimpong, maybe we keep Wan-Bissaka until the summer, but loan striker is really the only game in town.

And I do think it still tells us that Ten Hag prefers 2nd or 3rd choices for Ajax (presumably they considered him at times, particularly before they signed Haller) and he might well have been interested in joining. A surprising lack of bullshit links online for Ajax and Weghorst over the years, though, just looking at a quick google. He's exactly the kind of Dutch or Eredivisie semi-expensive veteran they sign sometimes (Blind, Tadic, Promes, Berghuis), especially since it's hard to grow a 9 in the academy.
My point is that how the dice had been cast (ie cheap loan deal, no buy out obligation etc) then we're focusing on a very small category of players which aren't necessarily the kind ETH would want in normal circumstances. Basically we're digging deep in the thrash can while trying to find something half decent from a very bad batch.

Wonder how many people would be up for this had it not been for those few minutes in the world cup?

I know we are a bit desperate but surely we can do better.

What's Bas Dost up to these days? Maybe we can team him up with Weghorst.

Go back just one year (when Burnley bought him) and its the kind of signing many complaining would have been saying was a must sign if linked by the press.

He'll do a job. Anyone expecting a starting quality striker in this window was living in cloud cuckoo land.

Not got a problem with Weghorst if we can’t sign anyone else. He is a grafter and knows how to score plus being Dutch is a big help to fit into EtH plans. Looked quite good in WC especially scoring twice against Argentina after coming on as sub. Only problem is I can’t see him playing 90 mins but then he may not need to.

Athletic have been sharing some of WW’s stats this morning.

At Wolfsburg he regularly topped the distance covered stats.

Even at Burnley he had 57 pressures in a single game, the most in the league all season.

Why the feck wouldn’t you want a player like that?

This feels very odd. it's a long time since we've had a "giant" up front (if ever - Mark Hughes would seem to be the closest ever). If he can hold it up and bring others in, that's fine but no sure our crossing is good enough to have a guy who will outjump defenders to head it in. Mind you, there's not exactly a huge choice out there and this would bring something different if needed
Ibrahimovic? Lukaku?

In a 5 month stint with Burnley? I mean, maybe but they didn't play in a way that suits strikers.
No, in Germany which was the topic. He didn't prove in Germany that he'd be good enough for a PL top club.

Worth noting that ETH brought Haller in from his flop stint at West Ham and he used him brilliantly as a target man. A notable feature was his link up play and Haller being on the end of those crosses from Antony.

That shows me that this isn't just random, ETH has a clear plan for how he'll use Weghorst, and he'll replace that aerial threat that we lost when Ronaldo left, but without the baggage.

I think this one definitely falls into the realms of "wait and see" because i don't know how to feel about it. You can't deny he brings something different, and even if he scores only 5 goals, those goals are going to be ones that nobody else would have been likely to score. I like the idea of having a different dimension up top.
Sensible post. Probably too sensible in fact. I’m going to dribble at his silly name with the rest of the kids

Did a hell of a lot more than Choupo Moting with his 1 in 5 record in three seasons at Schalke, yet he's doing a job for you lot, isn't he?

I was replying to your post referring to the PL
And I was replying to a post claiming he'd proven himself in Germany, to which I say, he didn't, not for the level of PL top teams.

Chupo Motting didn’t in the PL but has in the Bundi. All relative.
As I said, makes no sense to find the one player which is an outlier in order to argue the point, not to mention that you can't compare the situation at PSG and Bayern to the one you're currently in.

There’s other outliers.

Just because a player doesn’t fit at one club one season doesn’t preclude them from doing well or being a good signing elsewhere

Yeah I mean that's true on paper. Still I think Weghorst would be an underwhelming, to put it midly, or horrible, to put it bluntly, signing for you.
