What the actual feck

Worst start to 2023 ever

Happy new year gents
Same and same (for different reasons that I eloquently and poetically expounded on in the bad things happening in … thread)

And yes, happy New Years to you all!

The Big Ten surprised me. They lost both games which wasn't that shocking to me since I believe the media typically overrates the Conference each year, but they did provide some great entertainment. The SEC might get some favourable publicity as well, but at least (for the most part) they tend to come through in the big games.

As to the games themselves, I think both Georgia and Michigan massively underestimated their opponents and had to make furious comebacks. Georgia pulled it off (just), and of course Michigan didn't.

Roll on the National Championship.

Fantastic comeback by Georgia, so much easier to digest them winning a natty over the entitled nonsense of Ohio State fans if they had. TCU could shock Georgia but I have a feeling it's gonna be over by the time the fourth quarter starts. Just can't see Bennett throwing two pick-sixes as McCarthy did, nor two other trips inside the five resulting in zero points.

Never thought in my lifetime TCU would ever amount to anything of note let alone get into a championship game. I can remember the days of Jim Wacker when winning three games in a season was an achievement. Then the Max Knake days (mid-90s) when they were somewhat competitive even though he was a bang average QB. Gary Patterson should be credited with pretty much anything positive that has happened for the program. They had a great year a while back, think it was the sCam Newton year.

Patterson was one of the best coaches in the country.

The Newton year was 2010. Auburn beat Oregon 22-19 to win the Natty, but TCU was 13-0 and won the Rose Bowl.

The Big Ten outside of OSU, those guys and Penn State is bereft of quality. The gamble on Nebraska hasn't worked out, Wisconsin is going through a lean period, Purdue/Iowa are only good for upsets every now and then...

Let's see what happens once USC/UCLA comes in.

You want to see that smug chad Bennett lift another championship trophy?

The way this aligned with the NYE countdown almost seems as if the country was cheering on the Buckeyes loss.

I just looked at it as, rather than watching the Times Square ball drop I watched Ohio State drop the ball instead.

That missed tackle encapsulated USC’s defense this year in a single moment. Ugh.

Yeah, I'm turning this off. My news years resolution was to focus on my health and the USC defense is horrible for my mental and physical wellbeing. Holy shit they are bad.

USC with one of the worst losses I have ever seen. Up 15 with 4 minutes left and they managed to lose in regulation. Unreal

Just watched the Tulane comeback. Absolutely unbelievable. Like watching a real live version of the Waterboy

I can’t really process it completely. USC made boneheaded plays after boneheaded plays at the end

They got lucky with the helmet to helmet, the commentators were convinced it was a penalty. Even the final TD. The USC players just doesn’t fight for the ball and takes his hand off it. Surely they’d be coached to leave no doubt.

Glad to see my prescient move to turn it off in the second quarter was spot on. Instead of raging I am just laughing.

They led by 8 when they got the ball back. Even if they fumbled or threw an interception they couldn’t lose the game. The one thing that they couldn’t do was have a safety. Embarrassing coaching job at the end

What’s your thoughts on the Rose Bowl matchup?
Utah is a tough matchup for everyone, but they were almost custom built to defeat USC so I would not put all the mortgage money on them based on both of those wins. I did not watch a second of Penn State this year so no thoughts on them.

Also, as I typed this a USC defender probably missed a chair while trying to sit down and 3 others are still trying to grab the shower handle....but missing.

Terrible last month for USC. From a probable playoff fourth seed to losing to Tulane, ouch.
The Grinch truly did steal Christmas. And Thanksgiving. And New Years. New policy should be to never hire a coach named after a Dr. Seuss character.

Holy feck. Might not be popping the knee back in place, but whatever it was is a tad nauseating...
