You just knew if any club were going to match the stupid loan fee Atletico were asking for Joao Felix, it would be Chelsea. Tidy player but I don't see him changing their fortunes dramatically.

They still have Graham Potter trying to settle in as well.

I can’t think of a player from Spain coming to England in January and performing great from the off. Before he’s even unpacked his suitcase he’ll be back in Madrid
Agreed, it would take a special player, firing on all cylinders to come in and make an instant impact. I feel like this deal will go onto a long list of Chelsea feck ups this season.

Because they’re worried about getting their stuff repossessed and having bad credit?

The credit United can access is accessible because they can afford to pay it back over the duration of the loan.
They would be just adding to the sale value which they have already set and it would disrupt the process. We are told they want a sale within the first quarter of the year.

Makes zero sense to start racking up credit nor would a new owner welcome it I imagine.

They’ll work within whatever budgets were already approved.

What’s £50m on top of £6b? The issue here is that the Glazers are going to pay the debt from their takings, not get the buyer to pay them off. So they know that spending money now eats in to their potential returns. The only process it would disrupt is their wealth after they’ve walked away

As a United fan it's easy to spot when a club has lots of money to spend, but is also both clueless, and getting more and more desperate whilst spending it, and it's Chelsea's turn right now

A price has been set and the process in motion. Likely further along than we know. This will involve examining the books. I think it’s kinda obvious why they’ll stick to the budget and projections.

Yesterday Felix was still the best player Man Utd can get to challenge for top 4 or title. Today he is a flop. I hope he finally plays to his full potential in Chelsea.
Chelsea right now being the worst environment for him to thrive compared to Arsenal or United, it's not that difficult to fathom.

Ohhhh, another weird signing by Chelsea :houllier:
What's funny is how many of them have been busts...but they still just push forward with the splashy signings that don't fit their squad. This one really seems odd to me though. My only thought is that there is an injury somewhere that is worse than it might seem to the public.

I wish every player to do well.
If arsenal is good enough, then we can get a top 4 spot or even challenge for title. If not then so be it.
I wish I had that type of mindset. I'm of the unhealthy one that hopes everyone's signings outside of ours are complete busts...

Plot twist. Boehly thinks he’s signing a different Felix.

Will be disappointed when he turns up without his magic bag.

I think they must be telling players they are going to be ultra ambitious, be massive spenders, and look to sign the best young players in Europe to become the dominant force, and that's what we see you as.

Players aren't the brightest, so they generally believe the waffle as long as the £££ signs are there, without really looking at how the team are currently doing, their style, how they'll fit in, and what sort of competition do they have currently and are likely to have in the future if they are haphazard spenders.
Amen, and not only that — the top agents are, at least in many regards, doing a horrible job representing their clients.

Boehly will splash around more money than anyone right now. Who do you want to have a good relationship as an agent, Barcelona or Chelsea? Christiano Ronaldo? Boehly everyday of the week.

100% the agents play a big part here. Hyping Chelsea’s “project”. It’s simple math, Chelsea won’t be in the CL next season and they will have a boat load of players on the squad for which they spent 70-80+m pounds for. If you sign there as an 18 y/o, good luck trying to get playing time. Chelsea has great kids coming up from below on their own. If they can’t find room for Tammy Abraham or Armando Broja, where will they find room for a kid from Molde or Mokokou.

Or like with the 150m release clauses you here about in Benfica or wherever. They sign a guy for 5m from South America, nobody is going to convince me that Benfica would have walked away if the agent stated that they wouldn’t accept a release clause a penny over 135m. 90m? 75? An agent won’t like a balanced release clause. Leaves much less work to him. Can’t ask for 10% of the transfer fee. They aren’t negotiated.

He will be at Chelsea for a month then he will need a four month loan in the Championship to get up to speed and strengthen up.

Almost as if different people can have different opinion and still be United fan.

Felix is decent player and could have helped us. But for the money quoted, we didnt fancy him and most United fan agree with that assessment. Chelsea have got a player which they already have and paid insane money for that.

Seems a weird deal for Chelsea unless they plan to buy him permanently. They’re not finishing top four regardless.

Ahh well, I would have liked him here but Atletico’s crazy demands for a player, they are desperate to get off their books, wasn’t something we weren’t going to bow down to. Plus looking at the bigger picture, despite not being a glamorous name - Weghorst looks like the more sensible signing.

Our of ourselves, Arsenal & Chelsea - Chelsea definitely needed him the most out of the 3 so unsurprising Todd Boehly has sanctioned this straightaway. Their club is a complete and utter mess all over the park. This transfer doesn’t instantly fix that mess but if Potter can find his magic wand from somewhere to try & get the best out of him, then it’s a start.

If there’s one thing a Chelsea squad containing Ziyech, Pulisic, Mount, Havertz, Sterling, and lacking goals needed, it’s another deep lying, goal shy forward in Felix. Hopefully they’ll get Mudruyk too.

I actually think this isn't a bad outcome. It's a loan with no option to buy, so if he's good there's still a chance we could get him in the summer. Doubt he'll stay at Chelsea given the state they're currently in.

Casemiro has proved to be a very shrewd panic buy whereas Antony has much to prove but still young enough
I am not disputing the quality of the player, I am disputing the price. Plenty of clubs would have taken Felix on loan but none were prepared to meet Athletico asking price. Until Chelsea got spanked a couple of times. Same way United wouldn't meet Ajax's asking price for Anthony until we had suffered a couple of spankings. It's amazing how a couple of results can change a clubs thinking.
