No, he's just been frozen out. He's not the only one either, it's like Tuanzebe, Williams and Wan Bassaka don't exist either.

I suspect all four are going to be difficult to get off the box given their contracts, both Williams and Axel are on decent contracts for young players that won't be matched elsewhere. Phil is running down his contract clearly and Aaron Wan Bassaka isn't moving as the club will no doubt not want to lose him for such a huge loss.

I suspect Wan Bassaka will move on for around the 10 million mark eventually.
The three you mentioned along with VDB have long term injuries?

Well, if he's not even getting any Carabao cup mins then I guess he's played his last game for United. It'll be weird not having some kind of small send off for a player who's been here so long.

He is out of contract this summer as far as I know, loan in January and perhaps sign a pre contract with a championship team if the loan goes well/ he stays fit?

I think it more likely that he has retired from football. Just seeing the contract out to collect the wages.

Pretty much this. It will be interesting to see whether Phil continues his playing career and, if so, who picks him up.

Yeah will be.

Can't see it myself.

It's a huge amount of time away from playing to then make a comeback.

As far as I know his knee problem is all stemming from the injury he picked up at Blackburn before he signed for Utd, it just gotten progressively worse. To the point where he just seems to be physically incapable of playing a game of football.

Don't think any club anywhere would even entertain the idea of signing him.

I quite like him. He makes a lot less mistakes than Lindelof og Maguire. At least this season. The best defenders are the ones you dont take a notice to

Easy to make no mistakes if you don’t play.

He is another Pierera, slated on here but perfectly capable of cutting it in the PL (I juries permitting of course). Pay as you play deal should suit plenty of PL clubs when his contract expires in summer. He played a PL game for us last December I think and did perfectly fine.

He is back. When he has played ( which is less than once in a blue moon) he has played decent. He is brave enough to tackle and put his head in. He is not going to back off and has less mistakes in him than Bailly. But he is done.

I know he's not in the first team setup anymore but what is he actually doing?? Is he training with the U23s? Is he still injured? I don't understand why he never looked for a move this season.

Whenever he has played, he's been alright to be fair to him and I would certainly start him ahead of Maguire any day of the week.

Where would he look to move to? He's on a good wage, lives in the area and has a comfortable life. Why move elsewhere, face the same health issues at a new club who won't pay him as much.

Oh, sorry. Thought it was all about just playing football. And that's a short-term viewpoint because instead of playing himself into the shop window, he's only making himself less marketable.

He should just retire come June.

And be eternally thankful to Woodward and Judge for handing him that ridiculous contract back in 2019.

He just needs to do the sensible thing and retire.
He's got enough money to let him lead a comfortable life for life.

A shame about the injuries as he always came across as a decent player to me when he got a run.

He is 30, with serious injury problems, and probably would need to drop to League One or below to get a new contract (and even then, that club would be stupid to do so). He will retire in the summer.

there is nothing sensible about retiring when you are receiving big money.

Seriously, what is up with him? Is he playing for u23? Or he is injured?
Pretty sure he's fit. There were rumours he'd been booted down to the U23s, wouldn't surprise me if he's training on his own. He's certainly not pictured training with the first team anymore.

Is he on the socials? He must provide updates on there?
He's on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook. His last posts were in 2017. I think the trolling was too much for him.

ETH hasn't even mentioned him. He's talked about Williams, Tuanzebe, and AWB being long term injured. Jones has been absent from the discussion. It's like he doesn't even exist at the club anymore. It's so weird for a player that's in his 12th season here.

That's what I'm trying to get my head around. What is the guy physically doing? It's a bit harsh to say he's not welcome there anymore when he's not really done anything wrong.

Is Phil training with the first team or anyone? When was the last time he was spotted at Carrington?

I just love the random updates on this thread, I always think Jones is about to give a tell all inteview Ronaldo style, or EtH announcing he's back in training and will play an integral part for the rest of the season.

These thread bumps are the only occasions that I remember he still plays for us. Even journos don't bother to ask when he's coming back from injury anymore.

He was quality when he first arrived, but for me he should have always been a rightback, that’s where his best performances came early doors.

Ferguson is ridiculed for the potentially United’s best ever player quotes, but Capello also compared him to Baresi - he was obviously a top young talent. Good luck to him for the rest of his career, and his post-football life.

Wouldn't be surprised if he's told the club he intends to retire in the summer so they've told him to stay away and his contract will continue to be paid.

Similar to Phelan who is still contracted and being paid.

Jones and Tuanzebe- two players to have disappeared into a void! Really odd how nothing is spoken of them
