The playing from the back as well... we have a 6 ft 6 forward.

The best we got from playing short was Shaw or De Gea eventually spooning a clearance into an Arsenal player still in our half.

You cant really explain or legislate for that level of stupidity. Just kick it to Weg's head and half the time it'll break for us in their half. It's so basic.

Can’t believe this forum. We are talking about the number one PL team, with the best form and with one injury. Nothing coward over this, we played them to the max. Garnacho would have been so freaking stupid to bring on earlier, when everyone knows we are gonna defend the last 20 min. They are top class and we are as well. Good times are coming to us!
Plenty ignoring the fact that United are off the back of two tough matches in a week v Palace, City that were draining and week ago Arsenal had a pure stroll against Tottenham.

Few sides in Europe at the moment will avoid defeat away to Arsenal.

The last minute equaliser against Palace followed by the last minute winner against Arsenal...football is cruel sometimes.

But United have Won 1 Lost 1 against City, and Won 1 Lost 1 against Arsenal this season...which if we are honest might be more than United deserve on the balance of play.

Arsenal were the better team today, just have to take it! and not shit all over our players.

Garnacho for Wout with around 20 mins left was the sub to make, pushing Rashford through the middle and Bruno right.

They were all over us and he would have offered something different as an out ball. I thought McTominay did OK tbf, but when we were missing the best dm in the world we always faced an uphill battle.

Arsenal look very good and also have that luck that's needed.
Mctominay did he usual marking himself out of the game.

We were close to getting a point with several gaps in our side - we are getting closer

Quite clear that our team is knackered. Lots of lazy passes and lapses in concentration kept the pressure on us. The midweek game and a lack of quality on the bench cost us today, not Ten Hag.

I am sure Fulham said the same thing when Garnacho scored

The result isn’t the problem as much as the refusal to go for the win when Arsenal was there for the taking.

Look where Arsenal were and where they are now , a big club again showing a big mentality , not so much with us.
Arteta has been building this team for a few years. They’re well ahead of us on their journey. Most of their starting 11 are his players.

Conceding two late goals has cost us four points. Massively frustrating. Team looks knackered, but it will do if ETH wants to run players into the ground.

I thought we were brilliant today, perhaps our best away performance. Put Casemiro in and we win that. Get the right signings in and we are in the mix next season.

Na we have a lot of winnable games now. We could give Chelsea and Liverpool 10 extra points now and I’d still be confident of getting top 4. I just can’t see anybody in any sort of form to put us under pressure
Yeah, maybe I wasn’t clear - I don’t think we will lose out on top four. More like it will start to look less convincing, maybe we don’t go on a good run in EL, etc.

Gutted to lose that in injury time. I’ve got no complaints over the team today, they gave their all, it was a good performance in the main but came up short and can’t begrudge Arsenal the win. Arsenal were just a little sharper and quicker on the ball than us, it didn’t help that we looked gassed by the 70min mark which is understandable and worrisome at the same time.

Positive is that we have played the top two teams home and away now and haven’t got those fixtures bearing over us. We could do with some rotation in the next 2-3 games to give some of the players a bit of a break because for some of the boys it looks like they are slowing down late on in games and being only January we need them for a while yet.

The only team that matters
Antony so freaking poor in each game yet he thinks he is the best man on the pitch. Reminds me a bit of Depay
An tony was not poor today, he was our main outlet to hold up the ball and he did that well, as soon as he went off Arsenal overran us, IMO ETH messed up, Fred should have been on for Eriksen and Garnacho for Weghorst

Quite clear we're still a work in progress and the quality drops off quite markedly when we have to turn to the bench.

Got to also bear in mind that Arsenal had a week off and weve played three tough games in 8-days

3 points actually. No league games until 4th of February so hopefully there are rotations in 3 cups games that make us good enough to win those games but also to rest properly most of them.

Antony despite having one of his better games offered little.
Fred should have started in place of mctom clearly.
Garnacho and Fred from the start and it may have been different. We had a big hole in CM that was Casemiro sized but we should have adapted better.
Better team won though can’t argue that.

This was a game for Pellistri second half. Have watched the lad enough play for Uruguay over the years to believe he will give us more than Anthony.
This not an attack on his transfer because I careless for that. I just think he is not a great right winger. He follows instructions on shape and I’m damn sure Pellistri can because he does it all the time for a very competitive national team.

Absolutely deserved to get beaten. We were EXTREMELY lucky not to get battered by 4/5 goals. Last ditch defending throughout the entire game and we were only in it thanks to a mistake from their goalkeeper.

It's quite obvious that we don't have the quality to be title contenders, nor the chemistry. Casemiro is unavailable and our midfield looks like a relegation battling midfield. McTominay's great performances in 1 out of 98762638837 games just doesn't cut it anymore and we should cash in on him and bring an upgrade on Eriksen who should take Scott's place as a back up. De Gea proved once more he's absolutely clueless when he has to come off of his line and collect a cross. Wout - well... He's on loan and he doesn't look like a big game player so the outstanding issue of lacking a striker remains.
Completely fair and deserved result. Hopefully we dust ourselves and move on and try to maintain the good form we were in prior this reality check and keep ourselves in the top 4 or top 3.

Arteta does the same thing. He even played a strong team against Oxford in the cup.

Given the options available today, I thought we did really well to stick in the game for so long. No Casemiro was always going to be huge, but Dalot's ball playing was also a miss and no need to say anymore about Martial.

We really need to add players to this squad. At this point anything less than top 4 and a trophy will be seen as a failure, and it's shite that this could be out of ETH's hands. We are an injury to Rashford from having our season crash.

Why not? If we hadn't conceded a last-minute worldie midweek we would be having a different conversation right now. Our number one issue is squad depth. You can have all the mentality in the world but if you play fecking McTominay as a starter in a top of the table clash you just won't win anything.

If you look at our apparent improvement we’ve actually been pretty crap away from home all season.

Arsenal were too dangerous to defend.

My one criticism of Ten Hag is why didn't he bring on Garnacho with 15 left and take the game to Arsenal, we just sat back.

Eriksen was terrible all second half. Didn’t go into a single challenge, just lumbering around.
I’m afraid that is him now. Good first half (generally) but off the pace second half. We need proper cover / competition for him

They are going to win the league, it’s not a fluke they are top. We had AWB, Mctominay, Weghorst all starting. Given Eriksen looks shattered the game went as expected, it highlighted improvements we’ve made from last season but also the big improvements still required if we want to compete for the title again.

The one at Palace was the costly one. If we had got 6 points from the last 9 it wouldn't hurt as much.
This basically. I got no problem with happened with today. A good team that’s into its 4th year (against our 6 months), has that 2015/2016 Leicester energy about them, had their best XI available and didn’t have a midweek game.

The Palace draw was sloppy shit. We should have won that one.

That was a tough loss to take. We ended up playing into Arsenal’s strengths.

The loss of Casemiro really cost us today. Perhaps we can now forget talk of the title and start focusing on winning the next game and see where it gets us.

We have played Arsenal and City twice now, it’s up to us to pick off all the other teams

I’m actually thinking the second half of the league could be a boring bust for us at this rate
I was looking at the table and thought oh, 10 Points ahead of Chelsea and Liverpool but Liverpool have a game in hand, down to 7 is a possibility.
Then I saw their game in hand is away to Chelsea so one of them a dropping points. Then both have to play Arsenal and City anyway.
I think Newcastle will fall away for even more breathing space so it’ll be a good boring, in a way.
It could be the no man’s land of second under Ole all over again

1st goal was poor.. like Neville said why pass to De Gea then to AWB who are our most uncomfortable players on the ball. Just gives them an excuse to trigger the press and win the ball high up.

2nd goal was all AWB.. how can you know you’ve got a player behind you whilst at the same time have no idea there’s a player behind you.

3rd goal was always coming.. giving the ball away too easily and not easing the pressure.

They’re top of the league for a reason and and we never really seemed to want to give ourselves a chance.

Agreed. Thought we were equal to them for an hour. Then Eriksen lost his legs and mctominay was sloppy as is common.
Ramsdale made an unbelievable save to stop Rashfords second.
With a top striker and another midfielder or two we would be right up there with them.
Wan Bissaka was poor at the back post for their first.
Yeah we still have a way to go with Ten Hag, but perspective is needed. We were away to Arsenal, we deservedly beat them at the start of the season and now lost to a last minute winner on their ground. You're never going to dominate your elite competition on their turf. Wasn't to be but I thought we made a good account of ourselves and have had a great big game record in Ten Hags first 6 months.

you will never hear me saying a 90million attacking winger who never ever beats his man or plays a dangerous ball has had a good game. I have higher expectations.

Also stop playing out the back it is pointless, we have a tower up front send the ball to him

Don't sign old players and cast offs
Our ability to hold the ball forward fell apart when Antony came off. Their fullback just came forward at will because we lost any sort of pace with that sub
True. I'm surprised at the stick Antony gets, he hasn't shown the expected penetration so far but the rest of his game has all the things we lacked for so long, running, pressing and keeping possession.

Eriksen and McTominay were just not up to it in any way, Antony is the wrong target.

8 days, we've had city at home, Palace away and Arsenal away, Happy with 4 points tbh. Unfortunate not to take 3 at Palace, 4 from 9 isn't bad considering.

Let's hope we can get to the summer, get top 4 and maybe add some silverware along the way. Hopefully the Glaziers will have fecked off by then, we'll hopefully also have funds to strengthen the squad in vital areas, and then we'll be looking a much stronger team.

We're miles ahead of last season performance wise.

Can I just check, was Arsenal player (I think Zinchenko?) offside when he crossed the ball back into the box before Saka scored? For some reason they showed it once and then cut it off and refused to show it ever again. Only repeating the Saka shot after that.

Could've been much better had we been more positive with the subs in the last 15-20 mins.

Arsenal while not brilliant have younger fitter and some better quality players that gave them the edge today. You can see how they're top of the league by just spreading the youth and quality around the shape of the side.
