OK, but you are answering a question I never asked. I'll ask it again clearly, and you can answer clearly - if you wanna.

If we were to finish third, plus win the League Cup and one other of the FA or UEFA cups would you want to forget this season?
yes. It’s not one that would be looked back on fondly.

it’s a stepping stone season we are doing well in, you’re putting a lot of ifs in to make a point and then acting a dick.

as we are, we’ve won a league cup and hopefully look good for top four (which is great progress) while having a few hammerings. I guess many look back on the last time we won the Europa league as a forgettable season.

We got pasted by Liverpool, you can try and hide that with as many what if we win this and that as you want to try and hide it.

edit to add: in five/ten years time and someone Says feck remember that 7-0 drubbing against liverpool, the response would likely be, yeah feck remembering that, was a good stepping stone season. Not yeah fond memories of that year winning the league cup

Ok yes, winning the league cup is amazing , it will be remembered for years to come.

The amount of defection is amazing, you can still enjoy the season, the progress, how it’s going without having to say never mind we got smashed by Liverpool we won the carling cup.

I'm acting a dick? The post I was originally replying to said "If we win a trophy, I'll celebrate that moment - but this won't be a season I look back at fondly. Another one to forget it ever happened in the first place" as though it's a write off already. To which I just queried - given that we are currently in 3rd place with a bit of a cushion to fourth, won one cup and still in the other two - whether that poster would still view it as a season to forget if we were to maintain 3rd position and win one of the other 2 cups? It's not that big a stretch is it?! I'm just wondering whether - seeing as you jumped in - whether you would feel the same way. The notion that a freak pasting from Liverpool would negate our best season in a decade seems like the spoilt rantings of a man-baby to me. If you couldn't enjoy that then it begs the question why do you bother?

Interesting. I interpreted it completely differently. That he was blaming the players and excusing the manager. The game plan was fine but they messed up the execution.

I hope so that would be a lot better

They were well on top of us in the first half as well. We had the better chances (chance being an actual shot), but they were completely against the run of play. They dominated us that first half, and were literally just one pass away from converting domination into goals in the first half.

If the manager thought the same thing as you, I'm not surprised we got obliterated in the second. I was desperately hoping we'd make some changes at half time.
Disagree, we were the better team first half. Even most Liverpool supporters you speak to thought the same. Anyway it’s neither here nor there.

wtf? It’s our best season since Fergie left in terms of progression and enjoyment of watching us again. Best manager we’ve had in years. Finally getting rid of the leech owners. What on earth are you on about dude?

One bad defeat doesn’t mean anything in then bigger context.

We don’t look back at the season we won the title and think it was bad because we lost 0-5 and 6-3 in the same month to Newcastle and Southampton.

And I’m jumping straight back out.

the season is going well, let’s see how it finishes before arguing over hypotheticals

Celebrating finishing top 4 itself is a bit pathetic tbh.

If we win a trophy, I'll celebrate that moment - but this won't be a season I look back at fondly. Another one to forget it ever happened in the first place.
We did win a trophy

I feel like I need to clarify what I’m on about or getting at. Maybe I’m coming across spoilt or actually being spoilt. Years I look back on fondly we’ve won the league or champions league and had memorable matches etc.

I also always feel the need to add disclaimers too that I genuinely love ten Haag here, what he’s done and doing, the progress, looking forward to matches etc. but at the end of the year we’ve got top four and won a league cup that won’t be looked back on in ten years time as some amazing season, hopefully it would be a great season towards where we want to be and winning and I long for those big trophy wining seasons with ten Haag

Tonight will tell us about our mentality and resilience.

If we can win today and finish in top 4, we are on right track.Anfield result won’t matter as long as we don’t let it derail all the good we have done so far.

I think you just feel bad about the whole thing because we’re only a few days after a historically shitty result. That’s understandable. If we go on a good run now I reckon you’ll feel a hell of a lot less negative after a few weeks. And if we end up nailing down 3rd and win the Europa or FA Cup between now and the end of the season you’ll be positively glowing!

I know you’re probably right and I’ve just had this nagging feeling all week reading others posts that winning the league cup somehow negates that horrific defeat Sunday. Maybe I’ve just read people wrong.

I know myself I’m pessimistic and worry about how the seasons end, I was the same when we were managed by SAF, the last ten years certainly haven’t helped that, but it does make those wins when they come a whole lot sweeter than just expecting them.
