What was the guy in the VAR room smoking? Comes off his leg and is travelling away from goal when it strikes his arm and he's recommending a review? Well done to the ref for telling him to feck off.
It just shows some of these "refs" know feck all abour football which is worrying to say the least. The people officiating the game have no common sense about football. It's mad

That was…easier than expected. Liverpool are very poor. Not like we have been brilliant. Ohh well. Lets see who we’ll get in the next round.

Commentators saying Real playing YAWN was a classy and nice touch when they were clearly trolling them

A prem ref would have given it as well.

He was the system.

And Xavi was the best player at the 2008 Euros in a side that didn't monopolize the ball as much as the later Spain sides.
Not really. The best Spanish player that Euros was Marcos Senna.
Didn't win the MVP just because he was the a naturalised player.

Meh, felt like we were second best again and by a fair distance. Never felt like we could sustain any pressure on them. Vini Jr. is such a good player.

We need to make every effort to keep Alisson. Even with everyone else getting Space Jam'd he's still one of the best keepers around.

On to the Etihad in two weeks.

can imagine McManaman was tugging away at himself too was he?
Can’t stand the cnut but to be fair to him he mostly acknowledged Madrid were too good and experienced to get drawn into a game and Liverpool weren’t good enough, particularly going forward.

TAA was abject shite again too.

Since start of February, Liverpool scored 8 goals in 8 games, but 7 against us. Such a freak result that I'm sure would never happen the other way round.

Anyways, looking at teams that are still in the competition I'd like Napoli to win it but basically don't care much as long as it's not City or Chelsea. Though both teams have some solid chances of winning it as well.

It's amazing the Comms team can actually speak considering their mouths are full of Liverpool dick.
It’s ridiculous how much they fawn over them even when they are shite. Just a few bits I can remember.

At the end in the first half -
Martin Tyler “You sense Liverpool is about to score here”

In the second half -
Martin Tyler “ Madrid will be rattled if Liverpool just score one right now”

After Liverpool scored
Martin Tyler “Madrid and Ancelotti have been nervous all night”

Eder cleared the ball and laughing
Martin Tyler said “they know they can afford to laugh now before it wasn’t the case” something along the line

I mean he couldn't.

Xavi is a better passer on every single metric than Modric is.
Yep.

Xavi has 212 career assists to his name; Modric has 122. Granted Modric has played fewer career games, but, it's just pure recency bias that anyone puts Modric ahead of Xavi. The best is usually the last person you saw.

How are Madrid 9 points behind Barca?

They seem levels above.
Barca's defensive record in La Liga is superlative, that's why. We watch Madrid in Europe and think, "wow", but we don't watch them being underwhelming vs domestic opposition.

Barca have conceded eight goals in 25 games.
Madrid have conceded more than double (19 in 25)

Liverpool had a great gesture in the first leg with the tribute to Amancio who had just passed away so I think playing YAWN was a way to recognize that.

I don't think Xavi has figured out how to manage European football yet. Also, Real Madrid leave their best for Europe. C.Ronaldo surprisingly only has 3 La Liga titles but 4 UCL's.

Thank you for this post. It exactly what I think . I feel like I’m losing my mind seeing so many people putting down Xavi like that as if it’s either they never saw him or have forgotten how bloody good he was. It’s pure recency bias and if Xavi was still playing today nobody would dare put Modric above him.

Ronaldo has 2 La Ligas - 2012 and 2017.

Even disregarding assists, he's just a better passer than Modric in every facet of the game.

Better controlled short passing game, better at passes that break the midfield lines, better at passes that take out a defensive line, better at switching flanks, better at 'pinging a ball into the box', better at set-pieces, etc.

Xavi has now apparently been relegated to a system player despite both systems being worse off without him.

I's not, he faced prime Messi in La Liga for many years, when he was unstoppable.

No shame in losing titles to one of the 3 GOATs of football.
