FAO Tottenham Hotspur | Fighting Cock Goes Into Meltdown | Glast...gone

It’s not confusing at all to be honest. I’ve said their season isnt a disaster as they are 4th and qualified for the knockouts of the CL. That was clear in the post I initially responded to.
I’m then saying however that their recruitment this season has been disaster. It is possible for both to be true. I mean it happened to United in the 2020/2021 season…

We will have to agree to disagree then. I’m sure most spurs fans would agree with me but fair enough.

Seriously mate, you've won like 1 League Cup in, what, 60 years. What ambition?

A club the size of Spurs should have a similar record to Arsenal over that period. Discounting the Wenger years, a smattering of cups, maybe the odd League or 2, perhaps.

No, nothing.

I simply don't understand why Spurs has so many fans, even West Ham have a better record than Spurs and they're shite.
You didn’t have to be that harsh on him

Yep and in the same way most non spurs fans (so the majority of football fans) would agree with me. Nobody outside of spurs expects them to be challenging for major titles and winning big games. We know this, it’s literally an ongoing meme in football

We don't 'expect' to be challenging for major titles - it's an ambition that one day we will be a club that can achieve that. As I said before, what is wrong with a club like Spurs aiming to be one of the top clubs? Nobody is saying we are anywhere near it yet. You appear to be confusing ambition for current expectation or something, I dunno but it's a bit odd.

I don’t think they would tbh.

Its quite obvious they’ve spent a fortune since Poch left and they nearly won the league and champions league.

Not only that but they’ve actually regressed and when Conte departs will be back to square one. They even hired Patrici in especially to work along side him given they had history yet recruitment has been erratic and with no short or long term plan.

To me that’s a disaster and sitting in 4th (despite playing more games than below) doesn’t alter that.

I agree with all of this.

I think Spurs have looked to become something they're not since Pochettino left the club. Levy has promoted short-termism and has thrown money at big coaches when he wasn't really prepared to do the same for the one manager who gave them a fighting chance of mixing it with the bigger clubs.

Maybe it was too late for Pochettino before Levy was prepared to put money down and back him in the transfer market, but they had to try and replicate what they had with him with somebody else if they were going to do that. They've thrown the money around for managers like Mourinho, Nuno and Conte who don't mesh with the club's philosophy and it has left them in no man's land.

Thanks buddy - most of our problems are due to Levy and unfortunately until that man leaves I can't see much changing.

I think if you can sneak top 4 this season and then get a good squad building coach, not necessarily the biggest name, wrapped up and ready to go in the summer then great.

I know how you feel though when it comes to one step forward, two back. It’s a vicious cycle and until Levy accepts some change it will be hard to break through.

I literally must have said or implied quite a few times that I see no issues in spurs being ambitious as a club. I’m literally just saying them being 4th now and getting to the last 16 of the CL is not “disastrous”. I don’t really get what you’ve taken issue with. I do not expect spurs to be competing for major honours anytime soon.
And nobody outside of Spurs does…
I’m not confusing anything. I’m then being moaned at by yourself and another poster for saying Spurs being in 4th isn’t actually that bad  whilst emphatically stating Levy is doing a bad job . Both things can be correct. You’re telling me im wrong for saying spurs fans are expecting success and then weirdly the poster you’re agreeing with is telling me actually spurs fans do expect success. That is confusing…

I think if you made a poll asking football fans where spurs would finish in the league and cl the majority would say 4th and last 16. You can see how spurs are perceived in this thread or any spurs related thread on the internet. The majority of People do not expect spurs to win or challenge for major trophies. They expect them to be in the battle for 4th and have a few cup runs.
Their spend isn’t as much as teams above them, so their margin for error is lower. When Spurs came 2nd Leicester won the league… that says a lot. It’s quite clear the PL is in a very different place now to what it was between 2015 and 2017. So again Spurs margin for error is far less. And they’re making big errors in the transfer market.
It is a possible to say that Levy is doing badly, hiring inappropriate managers, and that their transfer business is poor as well as also saying them being 4th and still within a chance of finishing in the CL spots doesn’t quantify as being a disastrous season. If you can accept that then things are simple.

I mean I’ll go with what the Spurs fan says .

Sorry.

Maybe not all fans are there just for the trophies?

I remember the Ole days when a load of people where saying we were mad to ignore getting in Conte.

Football can change very quickly.

I've made this argument before and obviously there are mitigating factors in some of the appointments, but Levy is not an especially good judge of a manager. His record of managerial hires is really sketchy, notwithstanding this narrative around him that he's one of the canniest operators around. Since he was appointed, they've hired:

Hoddle (01-03)
Santini (04-04)
Jol (04-07)
Juande Ramos (07-08)
Redknapp (08-12)
AVB (12-13)
Sherwood (13-14)
Pochettino (14-19)
Mourinho (19-21)
Mason (21)
Nuno Espirito Santo (21)
Conte (21 - ?)

He seems to get it wrong far more often than he gets it right. He'll go back to Poch now and hope like hell he doesn't have to have another swing at it.
I tend to think of the two bolded as being the two that had relative success. I seem to remember liking their football under Martin Jol as well, but not really sure

My, you must be fun at parties.

That's the whole point I'm making. Spurs should have a similar record to Arsenal (bar the Wenger years) but they've won nothing for 60 years.
That is not the same point at all. You can't deduce the number of trophies based on the number fans.
There isn't such a direct correlation, besides "plastics", and I'm pretty thankful for that. Sports would've been boring af otherwise.
Smaller clubs just wouldn't exist and we'd have a league of 5 teams that rotate to win the title so they can maintain fanbases.

As for your personal comment, we'd likely never know, would we?

And I'm supposedly no fun at parties?

What a brilliant day for them.

Thought they might've dropped points today with a massive hangover from going out of CL but comfortable win and Liverpool and Brighton dropping points from winnable games is massive.

All said and done, them getting 4th is still a decent season and would give them a fighting chance of keeping Kane compared to europa.

Qualifying for the champions league isn’t a trophy.

Kane is 30 (?) He will want to win actual silverware soon rather than the “we finished in the top 4 a few times” trophy.

It isn't but it's better than giving him europa conference league again. Also helps them attract a better quality manager post Conte.

Spurs finishing above Chelsea and Liverpool is still decent from them considering their own issues.

No no no. I think you’ll find it’s been ‘disastrous’

Not a dig at you btw. Actually in agreement.

3-3 Southampon

Pure and utter fecking incompetence rife in this league with the refs. feck off you fecking useless cnuts. Disgusting.
3-3 with Southampton is fecking shocking this club deserves feck all
Its a cynical decision but it's a reckless and needless high foot by Sarr. No one to blame but ourselves
How the hell can that be given.... No contact made and both of them wild
So fecking sick of these bent fecking refs, absolutely sick of it
Disgusting by us simple as 3-1 up and we fecked it up

Perasic disgusting in defence its a joke
Conte can feck off. 3 goals against the bottom team. feck his shit.
hahahah feck off VAR and feck off this shit as league
Fixed af
feck sake Merson creaming his pants. Only Spurs. Southampton have scored less than a goal a game this season. Pathetic
fecking joke. Absolute fecking joke.
Utterly pathetic

feck off levy
feck off Enic
feck off Spurs
Out tonight, just feck off now you Italian cnut
How the feck do we blow a 2 goal lead with 20 minutes to play against relegation fodder?
fecking moronic players we have, why is he slashing away at air like that? Nobody has any composure in this team bar Kane. Rubbish.
Not going to crucify Sarr for that but once again completely complacent. At 3-1 why the feck have we let that ex gooner cnut score and let bottom of the league back in. Out defence is once again a fecking horror show. Letting bottom of the league score 3 against you. I would have all of the fecking shit cnuts in tomorrow for training all day until the thick cnuts get it
Perasic is an embarrassment

At fault for all 3 goals down his fecking flank

Disgusting by this awful side
Dr. fecking Tottenham with the medicine

That was such a spurs performance!!

Oh please Conte sign the new contract!

Was never a pen but good to see one of our rivals on the receiving end for once.
