If we see a significant PR offensive (interviews from him and his gf/wife, talks about therapy, a lot of social work, etc) then it wouldn't surprise me too much if it does happen. Not saying it should, but the fact there's now no criminal issue and it appears that the victim has now completely forgiven him and moved on with their life with him...realistically it's going to be a tough decision for the club to make.
With his contract running out in 2025 he'll be due to leave by the time it all washes over. United have an option to extend a year.

I could see the club trying to get a fee of some sort if we do see some mild PR offensive. It might be best for both if he just goes.

Same. There is already training pictures of him at the club, a person who by law & judgement was deemed legal. I dont see United as a club trying to impose that someone is illegal when that is the job of lawyers & judges. Could be wrong though.
What the hell does that bolded part mean? He may not have been found guilty but he has brought the club into major disrepute by committing a horrendous act of violence on a young girl. I suspect they have more ammo behind the scenes because OGS used to be always dropping him inexplicably and giving vague warnings to him through the media (which people were confused by at the time). I suspect the club has a code of conduct that employees including players have signed up to and that the club absolutely will have the flexibility to fire him summarily.

I personally would be disgusted if the club entertained bringing him back. It really compromises everyone at the club who may have to face awkward questions and be seen to support someone that has done something terrible. As with Ronaldo, I wouldn't be able to get behind him regardless of whether a court of law has decided he is guilty or not. We've all seen that video and can't believe that anyone with a moral compass would condone bringing that dickhead back. He's not even that good for lads to be embarrassing themselves over.

there would only be a mass outcry b/c he plays for united and he's a very high profile young english player

where was the mass outcry for former brighton and current spurs player Bissouma?? even Ronaldo had a high profile case from being in Vegas....never had an impact for any of these guys

also....what does it say about people and the public when you can't give a kid the opportunity to learn, grow and get a second chance to become a better person? the kid made a clear and unforgiveable/unforgettable mistake and he's had to deal with that for the past what 13 months?

What are you talking about? He raped and beat up his girlfriend. You're fine with that once he didn't waterboard her. Give your head a wobble. Disgraceful comment.
Do we need to talk about what the Qatarie royals did or how women are treated there? They did many things much worse than rape and beat up women.

I could live with those people owning United. How about you? I've never seen you saying anything against that I think.

Would you feel that forgiving about Gylffi Siggurdsson and Adam Johnson too? What sort of message do you think it sends to the kids coming up through the academy. What lesson does Greenwood learn from doing something awful and never having to suffer real consequences for it aside from missing a few games while being paid? He was told to stay away from his victim and couldn't do that much. Basically witness tampered his way out of a conviction.

The worst thing is that as passionately I feel about him never playing for the club again, I think they are trying to test the water with fans at the moment. No leadership from the club at all. Delay, delay, delay until they know what way the wind is blowing rather than showing any true values. Laurie Whitwell floating a little "should United forgive greenwood" style article in the Athletic today. Hope they sell him to Turkey and he can seek to be a better person there.

why no charges and why nothing really since July 2021???? how long does it take to determine a case and whether an incident took place? shouldn't it be innocent until proven guilty?

see that is the issue i have with people in this era....always wanting to condemn and judge someone before complete facts are shown, this age of cancel culture is pathetic.

if you don't think Mason has suffered, you are terribly wrong and not saying it hasn't been deserved. We've seen the pictures and what not so he's reaping what he has sowed.

i'm just saying if every kid who has made a massive mistake gets cancelled, what kind of world do we live in now?

it would make much more sense to cut ties and send a message that you can’t get away with stuff simply because you’re good at what you do.

This guy or holjlund and Evan Ferguson?
Osimhen is clearly some levels above the other two. I'd say bring Osimhen and another one. I don't expect us to make a permanent move for Weghorst and Martial's injury record makes him pretty much unusable so we need, at least, 2 new strikers for next season.

I wouldn't be so certain.

The process they've opted to undertake (including conducting their own investigation in which he will no longer have the burden of proof on his side and consulting members of the women's team who will certainly express concerns about his return) would put them in a much worse position if they ultimately opt to reinstate him. Because instead of deferring to the outcome of a police investigation they would be casting their own judgement on accusations of rape & domestic violence, while also opening themselves up to accusation of ignoring the concerns of women they employ. That's a bad, bad position to take in the face of what would already be a massive public backlash.

Whereas it's a very helpful process if the ultimate outcome is his departure, as they would now be able point to an extensive internal process in which he was given fair hearing, balance of probability conclusions as to what occurred and concerns expressed by other employees.

I wouldn't read to much into noise and speculation surrounding what by design needs to seem like a fair, balanced process in which all options are considered. In reality the process is weighted in one direction and it isn't towards reinstatement.

Edit: actually, are we even allowed to be talking about this on this forum now?

Go away with your whataboutery. I'll be disgusted if we go with the Qataris although it seems like the most likely outcome unless there's political interference. Think it would be another in a long line of United feck-ups. Basically providing PR to the corrupt and human rights abusing Qatari state where any future success would automatically be attributed to our newfound wealth (see City, Newcastle etc) than to the club or a brilliant manager. Although, given that we have a model as to how the Qataris would manage us, the chances are just as high that we remain a farce of a club that find every more spectacular ways to fail in Europe while also having the highest paid players in the world. Doesn't sound that attractive to me compared to competent owners who reinvest intelligently.

Osimhen is easily the #1 choice of CF's are on our list HOWEVER his price tag is more than double what it would cost for Hojlund and honestly Ferguson isn't ready to lead the line for United and should stay at brighton to continue his development.

It all really comes down to priorities and how much our budget will be in the summer. Yes, we need a CF...Yes, we need another starting XI type of CM...Yes, we need an upgrade at RB and potentially we need to bring in another CB. can't do the last three if we blow our budget on Osimhen.

It's not whataboutery to be precise. I didn't try to deflect the issue.

And to be precise again could you live with the Qatarie royals ownership? Would you continue to support/watch United if so?

Edit: thinking about this I've just realised how my opinion has changed regarding the Qatarie ownership. I was against it, I was not fine with it, but I couldn't stop supporting Unitef so I had to live with it. Now I'm sadly pretty fine with that. You're right I shouldn't be fine with MG returning. I should have said I'm not fine/happy but I could live with that.

Honestly Greenwood isn't really suffering real consequences either way. Even if he didn't play for us, he's a free man with now a wife and kid and would be courted by plenty of clubs around the world to restart his playing career. And if he was still as good as he was before the incident, he'd be immediately snapped up by a top club again. Sort of the way the world works.

It's sad, but like any profession (especially sports) top talent will always be coveted regardless of off of the field issues if there isn't any issues legally.

Again why was he not put in prison then by professional lawyers and judges if this was what happened and against law?

Just answer that question.

You act like you know what happened more than the lawyers and judges that ended up letting him go when dealing with this case.

:houllier:

Yes because you act like you know both the specific case and general law more than the lawyers and judges that dealt with the whole bloody case in the first place.

Its like pretending to know medicine more than your doctor just because someone told you some symptoms of someone else you never knew.

The judges and lawyers dealt with it. End of. Now its United's turn to decide on the result of the judges and lawyers.

Anyway not going to talk about this in Osimhens thread.

Just because you heard a video tape doesnt mean you know the whole case.

Why is he not in prison? We wouldn't even talk about his potential to represent United again if he was in prison right now but he isnt in prison.

Its like someone who killed a person then being let free by judges and lawyers. If he is guilty - he would be in prison.

You're acting like you've just had some slam dunk but it has nothing to do with professional lawyers/judges making a call one way or the other. It never got that far because the charges were dropped because the key witness refused to cooperate further. You can read between the lines as to why that may be. It wasn't just assault and attempted rape he was charged with - there was coercive behaviour too. It should also be noted that the police were criticised for allowing him to persistently breach his bail conditions by contacting and being in the company of the victim for many months without enforcement. Women's aid made the following statement following the dropping of charges:

"Only one in five women report domestic abuse to police, highlighting the severe lack of trust they have that they will be taken seriously. We’ll continue to push for evidence-led prosecutions which reduce the need to rely on the victim’s testimony. This is crucial because of the high number of domestic abuse cases that are dropped [as] the victim no longer feels able to support a prosecution, often due to the severe barriers and safety implications of taking an abuser to court.

I wish I had your blind optimism about the criminal justice system.

The charges were dropped because the key witness withdrew.

It was key witness withdrawal as well as new evidence coming to light wasn't it? We don't know what the new evidence is.

A CPS spokesperson said: “We have a duty to keep cases under continuous review. In this case a combination of the withdrawal of key witnesses and new material that came to light meant there was no longer a realistic prospect of conviction."

There wasn't much mass outcry when we heard the Qataries would buy us. People were actually happy with that. Tbh I'm not against nor for him comming back. I simply found it a bit too double standards and unfair if you're fine with the Qataries owning the club but not him comming back. At least for me it's so. For the woman team imo if they didn't complain when the Qataries buy us, they shouldn't complain if he's back.
There was mass outcry from a lot of people, it’s been very loudly expressed as well unless you’ve been living under a rock. I don’t want Qatari owners, nor do I want someone like Greenwood playing for us again. Nor did I want Ronaldo back the second time around, for several reasons.

That said I feel like the fans can only impact the greenwood situation, it doesn’t matter what we think about the takeover - it’ll happen whether we like it or not.
Ronaldo paid off his rape allegations. Alonso killed that girl when drunk driving. Maradona shot at the press with a pellet gun. It goes on and on. If you are a sht footballer then you will probably be done. If you are worth nearly 100 mill it will be awkward at first but it will get spun until everyone forgives and forgets. Look at Mike Tyson.
It’s an unfortunate fact that the likelihood to be forgiven for heinous crimes is proportionate to your skill with a football, we’ve seen it a million times. Doesn’t mean we have to stand for it this time though, and I feel like rape is a pretty good place to draw the line. I would probably forgive Mason Greenwood too if all he’d done was fire a BB gun.

Put "Greenwood" in not prohibited words, to gave same error as L.ma.o or Lo.l atm does if you try to post it. Some weird people keep bringing up the name.

Agreed if we are talking idealistically. But for decades people got away with many things if they were good at things. Even at work you constantly get cases of people getting a bit of a longer leash if they really excel at something. They way this world is spinning right now I wouldn't be surprised of anything. God knows what nutcases like Keane, Bellamy, Wise, Vinny Jones did and it was swept under the rug. We will probably get Qatar owners of the club. We see grown men dressing like women and identifying like one, drag queens, trans, bi, polar etc. To me it is a bit to close resemblance of where we are going as civilization to Universe 25 for my liking. So for Greenwood to put on United shirt again it would not surprise me no.

Not prohibited would mean that his name appears as normal. Also, "weird people" keep bringing up the name is an odd assertion - he's a Man Utd player and one of the brightest talents we've ever produced. People are obviously going to talk about it, so god knows why you think censoring his name is a rational thing to do as if he's Voldemort or something.

Hasnt scored in last 2 nigeria games.
As a Nigerian I advice you to ignore our national team games. This current team is the definition of inconsistent. The midfield lacks any kind of creativity and our fullbacks couldn't cross well to save their own lives.
