Looked like a lateral ligament in the ankle to me, happened to me before just sidestepping on the pitch, quite painful when it snaps. Hopefully it's that and not the Achilles anyway.

How long does that take to mend? One thing is if Argentina have any internationals in summer if will keep him out of them and will let him have a modicum of rest.

I did? People said it was his Achilles and that he was out for the season, I said season? Try career.

Not really sure why you're laughing either, most people thought it was his Achilles based on what they saw, irrespective of what Robbie Savage thought on the matter.

But of course you knew better all along right? Couldn't have possibly been his Achilles last night could it? Where was this confidence before Ten Hag said he doesn't think it's his Achilles?
oh my god. Is it that hard to say you just overreacted a little? It’s a lot better than anything that starts with “i don’t mind, I’m still right”

How did I over react to other people saying he’s done his achilles?

Other people over reacted to me saying he’s done at this level IF he has done his Achilles because they didn’t want it to be true.

Take your gas lighting elsewhere.

Not the worst. It'll heal, he'll come back 100% no concerns. Could've been Achilles, could've been lisfranc injury which has long recovery time with long term impacts, could've been ligaments which is multi month recovery, could've been a torn muscle which tends to have long term future injuries, etc... Just a metatarsal, it sucks for now but we'll live. He'll be fine for pre season.

So, it could have been worse (ligament) but it's as I expected, done for the season.

Well, he had a fantastic first season for us. Love the player, A+ signing in my book. Hope his recovery goes as well as Eriksen's and that we'll be able to see him on the summer tour and he's ready to go for next season.

Feck's sake. Been our best player overall this season arguably, just a horrible time to lose him.

Thank God. Maguire better step up then. He's wanted his chance, now he's got it.

ripping on people for saying looked like achilles is pretty dumb. When it happened i thought achilles as it looked pretty much dead on for other achilles injuries ive seen happen. Didnt think career ending but def thought his 2023 would be essentially done. Nice to know that good chance he will at least be good to go for next season, assuming the updates are correct.

Might be a stupid question but how exactly do you fracture a bone without physical impact? He was just running and collapsed- seems weird.

I wonder if it was his metatarsal? He grabbed his foot, not the back of his leg.
Just gonna quote myself from page one

Please allow me at least a few minutes smugness before quoting a subsequent post where I convinced myself it was actually his Achilles after watching a few more replays.

Anyhoo. Season over. Not ideal but huge relief all the same.

Could have been weakened with contact on it previously and it just wore down and broke when he planted his foot.

Cut on the edge of his foot, too much twist/pressure/torsion on that outer metatarsal, fractures... I fractured mine when I was 13 or so, but that was when running I turned and landed too harshly on the outer bit of my foot and it fractured. This was more cutting, but probably similar. Took me 6 weeks ish.

Looked like he twisted his ankle to me, so maybe slightly off-balance and too much weight on wrong part of foot. Just a freak occurrence.

Also technically not done for the season. He's young, could be 6 weeks and a scenario where he's back for the cup finals if we make either or both. But that's a best case scenario

yeah the replays had me convinced it was achilles. Afaik achilles snaps just hurt everywhere in the foot and heel initially. But I could be talking bollocks there as I’ve never snapped mine.

Cheers for the info everyone- makes you realise how important running with proper biomechanics and form really is.

If it’s a small fracture he’ll at least keep strength in his leg. When your muscle gets torn it impacts peoples careers so this shouldn’t I hope.

A six week lay off isn't going to impact his career
