They did have Jesus out for 5 months or something tbf. Still nothing on the scale Ten Hag has dealt with, and the fact he hasn’t moaned about it in the media means it’s gone under the radar. He’s just sort of gotten on with it.
The Jesus situation was similar - although much less drastic - to what ETH had with Martial. Can’t be arsed checking but I’m sure Jesus has played a hell of a lot more games than Martial so far this season.

I also think if all of Martial’s missed games were consecutive it would have been less disruptive. The way he’d come back for a game only to instantly miss the next few must be a nightmare to try and plan around.

Injuries like Martial and VDB get dismissed by oppo fans as well because they're not rated as players by them.

I'm still laughing at 'career ending'
It was way over the top, but can you blame people going full panic if we have a very bad bench and a serious injury to one of our key players makes us so vulnerable? I am just glad it's not such a terrible injury as it might have seemed

I meant your tagline
I don't mind, I'm still right, you can laugh as much as you want when you're wrong, it's easy innit? Look at any medical study on Achilles injuries. Here's one regarding NFL players, and they don't even kick a ball for the most part:

Achilles tendon tears are potentially career-ending injuries for professional athletes. For players in the National Football League (NFL), return requires not only surgery and extensive rehabilitation
For players who return, the long-term effects remain unclear. Parekh et al found a >50% reduction in performance following an AT rupture. However, they examined only select position types and calculated performance using “power ratings,” a scoring system similar to that used in fantasy football. The current study examined all positions and found that the players who did RTP played in significantly fewer RS games in their return season versus the season preceding injury. Notably however, these players returned to their preinjury levels of RS games played and started when allowed to play >1 season following injury.

Doubt the poster has ever played sport or known people who’ve done their Achilles. It’s a horrendous injury. My friend did it playing football - surprisingly it was painful but he managed to walk off the pitch With a bit of help. He was told 7/8 months until he can do any sort of running.

We’ve been fekked with injuries and suspensions this season and yet we’ve made great strides this season, which Martinez has been been a huge part of. Hope he’s back soon, but he can’t be rushed back.

Cruel, the football gods.

Exactly, I happen to know of two people who did theirs skateboarding of all things, both had reduced mobility in their foot afterwards and one walked with a bit of a limp. Running is completely out of the question for both of them.

When I’m wrong? You ended his career several times last night, yet I’m wrong? I’m laughing at you hanging on the word of Robbie Savage of all people.

The Caf doctors diagnosed Varane with an ACL injury when he went off against Chelsea a few weeks before the world Cup. Not surprising Martinez had a fully diagnosed ruptured achilles before he was halfway down the tunnel.

I did? People said it was his Achilles and that he was out for the season, I said season? Try career.

Not really sure why you're laughing either, most people thought it was his Achilles based on what they saw, irrespective of what Robbie Savage thought on the matter.

But of course you knew better all along right? Couldn't have possibly been his Achilles last night could it? Where was this confidence before Ten Hag said he doesn't think it's his Achilles?

If it's his fifth metatarsal that'd be very unlucky/lucky.

Unlucky in the sense it's pretty freakish thing to break in the circumstances, with no contact, lucky in the sense it should be fine in 6 weeks.

Still think it's more likely a tendon.

I broke a metatarsal just walking down the stairs, stepped off bottom step, heard an almight crack. I just thought 'What the hell'. Then I tried to put my foot down. It was only a tiny crack and the pain was excruciating.
