The subs were bizarre. They made things worse. If the going gets tough, Shaw is definitely not your man. I would rather Sabitzer was put up front than Weghorst, who should be nowhere near this squad.

Don’t want to give them an excuse but i think we suffered a lot because of the 24 degrees ! You could see that we were so soooo heavy because of that!

I don't get it. Another case of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory really. This tie should have been over in the first leg but we go and concede two own goals to bring them back into the tie by not being able to sub martinez after his injury maybe because of wasting subs because of over-confidence by management. Maybe really like looking a cow in the ass...while making subs.

The team looked poor, but we had a role in all five goals due to lack of quality and errors. If we replace Maguire and de gea, I think we go through.
Thing is, there was basically an entire half between their first and second goal and we had Eriksen and Casemiro there yet we had no grip on midfield, no control, and created feck all despite having what, 200m worth of attacking talent on the pitch?

Dunno. It feels like we've been here before and it's hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Maybe it's not even a tunnel, just a hole. But at this point I feel like it's something beyond player quality or managerial acumen. It's like Guttman's curse on Benfica.

A few fans have been saying this for years now...we will never ever win the league with Maguire. We cant progress with a keeper like De gea. We told them that de gea creates chances for the opposition But they told us he makes amazing saves no other goal keeper can make...and they kept de gea. To be honest, we need to be ruthless in the summer. Got to let maguire, lindeloff, wan bisaka, weghorst, mctominay, martial and even sabitzer go. They just cannot cut it in a top team. To be honest sancho also should be on the list but I dont see us being that ruthless.

The 3 performances in the last 6 weeks against Liverpool, Newcastle and tonight are very concerning.
I really hope that's the last we see of Martial, he can't be trusted to play more than 4 games before getting injured. Waste of space.
DDG certainly wasn't playing for a new contract tonight.

Anyone else count Maguire's touches when he receives the ball from Lindelof, seeing how long it takes him to make a pass, allowing the opposition to get set into their shape.

Honestly lads, once you see it, you can't unsee it.
This is what happens with a Maguire-Lindelof central defence. Play too deep and too slow.

Seen the Maguire mistake. But also a lot of people blaming DDG. This video contrast Martinez receiving the same pass from DDG.

Sancho could conceivably turn it around given he's still young and has quality, though I accept he looks all over the place at the moment.
Nah, and I know I've thought the same with Rashford after last season, but at least he showed that he can mix it at this level in his first 2-3 seasons.

Sancho is just following in the footsteps of all the other Bundesliga flops except with the added complication of having a spectacularly shit attitude and weak mentality.

Sancho is mentally broken like Martial is physically.

You cannot blame him for the goal in the first leg. That’s just horrific luck.
Bad luck seems to follow him around.

He is not a commanding Manchester United centre baxk

According to the BBC, we had 16 shots at goal, 3 on target, Seville had 19, with 6 on target. I find that an amazing fact.
It looks as though everything was set up for Seville to progress, when we should have been outta sight at home at half time, the poor decision from Malacia, the unfortunate o.g. from Maguire, the stupid pass from De Gea to Maguire, the 'shoulder' goal from the corner, and the poor control from De Gea at the end. In effect the only decent goal they scored was deemed offside, the only bit of luck we got all game.
Let's hope the footballing Gods, who weren't smiling on us in this tie, will be smiling on us on Sunday.
It’s massively rose tinted to think that bad luck cost us. Sure, we conceded some unlucky goals. But the performance was lacklustre and they deserved all the luck that came their way tonight.

Definition of insanity is doing the same thing and expecting a different result. We have seen DeGea, Lindelof and Maguire f-k up against Sevilla before. Why did we think it'd end different this time? They set the tone for the garbage served up tonight. We were resoundingly beaten.

Has Luke Shaw spoken to BT yet about how it’s not acceptable, they need to do better and he doesn’t know what went wrong?

It`s like night and day to watch us home and away this season.
At home we usually play with a bit of swagger and intensity, some belief and desire.
Away, it usually looks like it does today, it`s like we lost before we even started. Heads down, players walk on the pitch, even quite good players like Eriksen and Casemiro can`t help us string 3 passes together.

The pitch is basically the same, ball is the same, rules are the same, and yet everything is different.

De Gea will rightfully get most of the criticism, but where the hell was the midfield? Absolutely shocking performance from Eriksen, Casemiro, and Sabitzer. Completely dominated and outplayed from start to finish.
True that.

Never mind about a contract. This was the Europa League Quarter Final. How on earth are these players not able to be up for that. They were all flat. How on earth that happens is a real real concern. As for the FA Cup semi? It could be another horror show.

In the match day thread, I repeatedly said that the odds of winning against Sevilla, in Spain are very very low.
I also told people that winning the EL is ridiculously difficult and it took a Jose special to win it (and a lucky draw).
In any case, it now clears the way to get top 4 in the EPL (even though getting top 4 doesn't mean anything in itself, except for getting CL football).
Hopefully, if the Glazers sell, we'll get owners who prioritise winning and not just get top 4.

Yeah, it's near the end of April, the sale, if it happens at all, is nowhere near conclusion - it looks certain to drag into the summer so a window might be wasted.

But even if not. Limping is the right word. This club has been limping for a decade and I have no confidence it will change even with new owners.
There I have to disagree with you. I think new owners would really help make a fresh start and shrug off this malaise that the Glazers have let infect the club. Getting rid of some of these overpaid jokers would be the next step.

Maybe I'm just being optimistic though...

Playing Eriksen was suicide, he just doesn't have the legs to play the 8 role, he gets bypassed way too easily. I don't understand why Fred isn't getting more game time.

I thought Casemiro looked unfit. Nowhere near the player we have seen before he lost games through suspension.

You can't blame bad luck on conceding five awful goals over the course of the tie. Any decent defence would have dealt with most, or not all, of them.

It's just amazing really. We have gone from subbing on Greenwood at PSG in the knockout stages of the cl, to subbing on Woughorst to try to equalize in the Europa League knockouts. And everyone seems to be thinking we are making progress. We are a club that should be giving homegrown talent a chance ahead of a 30 year old Burnley reject from the Netherlands. Clearly our manager does not understand our club.
Oh shut up. ten Hag absolutely understands our club.

A couple of players are forced to do media after the game. Not sure what they should stand there and say instead?

He's living the dream 350K a week for the next 4 years! He's sorted and never needs to play well again
Exactly. We are the destination for lazy players to get big contracts because we dont have high enough standards in our staff to hold them accountable. Players only come here instead of other big teams cause we pay them alot of money. Sadly.

The Casemiro situation is odd. He looks completely spent, despite being banned for 8 games. It's been an intense season and introduction to a new league, but he's having a tough time of it at the moment.

Didn’t watch the match. But got a but of WhatsApp along the lines of “Maguire Again” what did he do so bad?
Ok, i did not watch the match. I have not spent more than 40 years watching United. I now only get my United game updates from Whatsapp messages.

Maguire is not a Manchester United standard player.

Anyone that says he is, is delusional.

Well I definitely want rid of them, don't get me wrong. That's our only hope. If they stay, it's all entirely pointless.

Amazing, United gifted them 4 goals.
New contracts for these lots, I guess

Really?! You saw that coming?
Ofcourse. When you have Bruno, Rashford, Varane, Martinez, Shaw not starting then its not really out of the box to think that we will be overrun. Maguire with DDG is always a mistake waiting to happen. Unless we strengthen the squad we will always struggle when we are missing 5 starting X1 players.

The rest need the bin, easier said than done though.
Don't see the point in persisting with him. He's on huge wages, we need the money and have several talented young players on the wings.

Where the grass is greener.
An absolute joke of a tie really. If someone said at half time of the first leg we'd lose 5-2 I'd have....well knowing us I'd probably have said maybe, but it really is a joke that we've gone out like we have. Even with the injuries, so many of these players are mentally done and need shipping out. The character and makeup of this squad seriously needs an overhaul.

At least we got this shit performance out of the way in the EL and not an important league or FA cup game. Now have 3 less games to play, which is good considering our entire squad is injured. Hopefully that's the last one of the season.

If Maguire and De Gea were auditioning for their spots next season, then they'd better get looking for new clubs.

It's one of the most frustrating things about him. It's like he's always looking for the Hollywood pass.

Varane is no Beckenbauer on the ball by any stretch of the imagination, but when it comes to him he normally switches it quickly, if just to keep it moving if anything.

Maguire takes a touch, looks up, takes another touch, moves forward a step, looks up again, then just plays a simple pass to the RB anyway!

It takes him 10 seconds to do the thing he should have just done straight away.
