Newcastle are in. If we beat Bournemouth on Saturday, I think we're all but in too.

Mathematically yes. However, two points will probably do it due to their superior goal difference.
The late goals for Newcastle tonight have secured the goal difference route for them. They're +7 GD over Liverpool, so 2 draws in their last 2 games would almost certainly be enough.

Will all be irrelevant in the end as Newcastle will beat Leicester anyway.

Newcastle win does not change anything for us but hopefully focuses the players more on Saturday’s match. If we win, we will finish in the top 4. If not, then we are going to have 2 high pressure games at OT.

Good thing with the Newcastle win is that if we do our job, Liverpool will finish outside the CL places.

If we bottle this top 4 to Liverpool (who beat us 7-0) and then City win the treble.....this is going to be such a disaster. The Carabao cup will count for nothing in that scenario.

Another poor away performance this weekend is simply not acceptable.
Since we won the league cup we've been very very ordinary too which doesn't fill me with much confidence.

Newcastle got the job done, now up to us to do the same on Saturday

Hopefully we win and Villa can get a result of some sort so it's all over.

With those late goals Newcastle essentially need two draws as Liverpool ain't turning the seven goal difference around

A win V Bournemouth for united will be killer for liverpool hopes

I'm confident for this weekend. Rashford, Varane & Garnacho back at just the right time. Beat Bournemouth and we have it imo.

Can't remember the last time I've been this nervous for a Saturday 3pm kick-off.
I used to be nervous but not anymore. Seen too many disappointments to be nervous. Up to the players and whether they want the CL bad enough or not. One thing to talk. Another thing to go out on the pitch and do it. Just know it would be up there with our biggest collapses ever if we do not make the CL. Literally nothing else will matter.

Newcastle have all but secured it now and well done to them, deserved winners tonight and deserve top 4.

All between us and Liverpool now. I'll be a nervous wreck on Saturday no doubt.

Have to say I'm enjoying this end to the season. In Feb I was half hoping to avoid relegation. Then to try and finish top 8. Now Europa is confirmed and might even get CL.

I settled for a Europa spot over a month ago. Not sure Utd fans are ready to settle for that (again).

If we end up 5th it will be disastrous. There's no denying it.

On the flip side if we end up back in Thursday night cup I'd field weaker teams in it if I was in charge. The reward isn't worth the risk.

What is it with people wanting Liverpool to qualify? You do know that them getting top 4 will allow them to get better players in?

Who wants that? I haven't seen anyone. Liverpool getting in now means we don't realistically too given Newcastle have Leicester at home Monday.

Rather, what is it with people thinking Liverpool will qualify?

It was very unlikely even before Newcastle game, now it is bascially impossible.

Said it before, Liverpool could smash some of the last couple of teams 10-0 and it wouldn't matter, they picked up form just too late, they play Europa league next season.

really? Basically impossible? You think there is no possible way we could draw against 2 of the 3 remaining teams? Fulham were all over us until their meltdown, and chelsea have plenty of talent to squeeze a result. Is it likely we finish top 4, yes. But to say impossible that we dont win 2 out of 3 is just not correct.

Chelsea have what now?! We’ve beaten Fulham twice this season as well and you might want to check what team we had to put out for the cup match as well.
Don’t scare yourself.

Yes, i think its basically impossible, you have a few games against sides in no man's land, Chelsea is awful this season btw.

Considering how awful we are in the CL then, yeah, I probably would prefer an actual trophy to being in the CL.

We’re not after a favour from anyone. We can afford to piss around and still make it.
It it would be just like us to piss around and miss out at the death. Chelsea and Fulham aren’t going to be easy, especially as you’d expect Fulham and Mitrovic in particular to be out for revenge. A getting the last laugh type thing.

Can you explain why Chelsea won’t be easy?

Newcastle are so fecking annoying.
Brighton are the ones who are annoying me at the moment tbh. Willing to run through a wall to get a win against us or Arsenal, but obligingly bend over for Everton and Newcastle. Game raising (or lowering) cnuts…

I'm sure they will as they'll feel they were better until the red cards but they were masters of their own demise in that game. Mitrović or Fulham in general have no right to complain

I agree, they can have no complaints, but they will absolutely be out to beat us and ‘put the world to rights’.

Especially if we need a win in that game. Makes Bournemouth and then Chelsea game even more important, letting it go to the final day is never good no matter who the opponent. City beat Gerrard's Villa last season but only after a comeback with 10 minutes to go.

Agreed. Final day does something weird to teams, that was a crazy game last year, and our 5-5 with West Brom in 2013 was just bizarre. Need to get it wrapped up before that!

This is good practise for the United v Liverpool title showdown next season.
