The noise is getting loud and hard to dismiss it. Seems we really going to get him eventually. I just don't know what does he do. Doesn’t score or create , is a reasonable passer, doesn’t carry the ball, works hard. That’s it. With the price quote, just hope it turns out to be a Lisandro Martinez type of signing rather than Antony type of signing. Why not JWP? He can at least put out good free kick and corners.

Water isn’t actually wet, by the way. Which goes to my point - people just get online and say things matter of factly without being able to substantiate them.
No amount of Neymar shilling will make him less of a cnut. Would rather have full team of Mounts before having that diving cnut anywhere near this club.

It's actually kind of hilarious that we're interested in him as a number 8. We could have another van de Beek situation on our hands here

Friend of a mine who's a football analyst for various clubs and a journalist told me a year ago Mount is as close as England has to Modrić in the sense of the way he plays. We were talking about how England doesn't produce those kind of players, technically sound players with a good passing and defensive skill too, but is more about pace and wingers, for various reasons, and mentioned Mount.
Your friend should find a new career.

13 goals and 16 assists season before this
9 and 9 season before that
8 and 6 season before that.

The man scores and assists from midfield that works hard and has high energy who is only 24 so those numbers are from a young player on top of that.
I’m not a fan of his but let’s not pretend he’s Weghorst here.
If Ten Hag thinks he can improve on that through his coaching then I can see why he would be a target.
It looks as if Sancho being sent to Holland to train as a 10 has died on its arse as well.

This is scarily gaining traction.

I’m prepared to back ETH over this but all other signs and the apparent asking price from Chelsea scream WTF?!

Mount, for a reasonable fee, is a good signing and would be a decent rotation option for fernandes if we go on to play another shed load of games next season. We have been lucky that Bruno, this season, has stayed fit for so long.
Fernandes is a machine. Hasn't missed a single game in his career through injury.

This right here shows why the majority of people sit talking crap on a forum and are not out there as managers/players/coaches.

97% of Elite academy players, meaning players from the very top academies fail to go on and make a single premier league or equivalent appearance.
True. But the solution to this isn't Mason Mount. We might as well try out the youngsters.

I have a feeling that we're just being used again to get a new contract but if Mount is really saying no all renewal attempts from Chelsea- this could be a transfer that gets done early.

Chelsea need to sell some players before June 31(I think, not 100% sure on exact date) so they can balance the books for the 2022-23 season for FFP. If they can't get other sales through in time for the amounts they need, selling Mount might be something they have to do.
They have been quoted asking unrealistic fees for most of their players linked for sale - like ~£25m for Loftus-Cheek from Italian clubs

Manchester Utd never lose, just run out of time
Fred and McTominay have plenty of energy. Sabitzer too. All of that did nothing for us this season.

We are not Liverpool, we play nothing like Liverpool. Just because something works for them doesn't mean it will work for us too.

There is nothing wrong with squad options but our budget is limited going by all sources and we have holes in the playing 11. We cannot afford to waste resources on squad options.
Fred does. McTominay really doesn't. He has the odd game here and there where he shows high intensity and energy, but generally he's average at best and in fact probably below average for PL central midfielders in terms of how much ground he covers and the intensity that he shows. Sabitzer seems quite inconsistent with it too.

He is total crap. Loads of running. Very little end product. Typical English youngster hype.

I can't really reframe this as something I'm excited about no matter which direction I approach it from.

But...I really like that he's wanting to come here and he's nailing his colours to the mast early. It would be easy to play the market in his situation, sniff out what's available and what pays the most.

You always want players that see us as the best option. Not just an option.

Who says this is a priority? We can work on several transfers at the same time, I have no doubt we are working on priority signings, striker etc(most probably Kane) at the same time.
Because we’ve got no money, so you’d assume we’d spend whatever we do have on the area we’re most desperate. Then when we come to buy Kane we aren’t left saying “bugger, we’ve spent all the budget on that average midfielder we only sort of needed!”

I didn’t sit through every game this season thinking ‘ah Jesus, if we just had mason mount we’d be fine’. I watched us spurn a million chances, score just once or twice if we’re lucky and hope the other team weren’t able to equalise late on.
So that brings us back to the conversation about whether we have money available. Obviously we have to get a striker and yes I'm sure we would love to get Kane all things being equal. But there is no guarantee that Levy will firstly even let Kane go, let alone do it before the last day of the transfer window in order to drive the price up to the absolute maximum. We could chuck everything we have at Levy, and he'd still say no until the last day just in case we're desperate enough to find some more.
Instead we've been presented with an opportunity to buy from a club that really needs to sell in order to make FFP for a start, and then to finance some of their own purchases which also include a striker. Plus other clubs are sniffing around Mount and are in a position to bid early and secure a deal. Perhaps we have to do the deal that is available to us now, and then work out a deal later in the summer for a striker.
If Kane isn’t a goer then Osimhen has to be. We don’t score enough goals, and I’d even argue we don’t just need one striker but two. Unless we’ve been given unlimited Qatari funds but none of us know it yet, it makes no sense to spend most of our budget on Mason mount.

I’ve nothing against mount either btw. He’s decent, inoffensive and if it was for 20m I’d say yeah get it wrapped up early. But it’s a matter of opportunity cost.

Sounds like maybe Park Ji Sung - with more end product.

Mount nearly has Park ji sung's whole PL stats in a year and a half.

Dont underestimate hard workers that are tactically flexible.

This “tactical flexibility” stuff is a joke, right? He’s not a no.8 because he absolutely lacks the passing range and positional discipline to play as an actual central midfielder. He’s not really a no.10 because he’s nowhere near creative enough, and his average league goal tally is 6 in the 4 seasons he’s been a mainstay at Chelsea. He’s nowhere near quick nor good enough at dribbling to play as a winger. He’s also (of course) not a striker.

Being pretty mediocre in a bunch of positions doesn’t make you “tactically flexible”.

Okay my mistake. But still his gameplay is nowhere closer to Modric. The only thing that's being close to Modric is his hardworking. Chelsea fan above says he is not a good drbbler or a passer or has any vision. So what makes him like Modric?
What Chelsea fan is that?

Sounds as though ETH would have him playing as a no.8, effectively replacing Eriksen in the team and I have the same reservations as you regarding him playing as a no.8, which I don't think is even his favoured position at Chelsea.

I could see a scenario where he starts out as an no.8 for us but him and Bruno eventually swap positions to try and get more out of Mount.

And yet somehow was a top four side's player of the year two seasons a row while supposedly being mediocre in those positions. And was a key player across multiple managers. And is now reportedly being targeted by multiple top clubs, based on his performances in those roles.

Seems more likely that your assessment of him is wrong and he's not that mediocre.

This would be one of the most uninspiring transfers I can think of if it happens. Even if he fits the bill of what Ten Hag is looking for there's got to be someone else out there that proves a better deal. I feel like players like Mount are a dime a dozen.

Yes yes. Very fun. We’ve certainly never seen this sort of fallacy used before.

If we didn’t have Bruno Fernandes in this squad he makes a lot more sense, but seeing as we do I really struggle to see where he fits.

Come on, Erik. We're not fecking Ajax.
I'm split between it being naivety or arrogance, thinking the likes of Weghorst, and now Mount, is good enough to get us competing for the title again.

John Murtough needs to grow a backbone and tell Ten Hag to feck off if he's the one pushing for us to spunk our budget on Mount, like we did with Antony last season.
