If they're willing to pay 65m then let them. Although I imagine Chelsea will accept less if it's from abroad.
I don’t think just being a realist….

You can have an open bid for £55m and you accept a £45m bid(just of your statement) and you force the player to go to the club he doesn’t want to go to for a lesser fee.

Explain that one please.

I'm not saying Mount would want it! But plenty of clubs will accept less if it's not a direct domestic competitor.

One of the reasons Chelsea are playing hardball so much is because we're a rival to the UCL spots next season.

Gravenberch, Rabiot, Caicedo, Lavia, Kone, Thuram, Neuhaus.

There are options that would not break the bank (bar Caicedo).

We brief that we’re moving on to Chelsea’s main target, they brief that his former manager’s new club are interested in swooping in. This’ll get done next week, i’ve never seen such transparent posturing.

Well if these are their thoughts, this is exactly why the mugged off their fans last year with horrendous transfers and finished 12th.

Good luck trying to catch us… they’ll be nowhere near.. I can’t think of a worst run top 6 clubs atm. Spurs included.

If Mount wants to join Utd so much, he'll wait another year and join on a free. That way we'll be able to go into next season with both Caicedo and Mount as well as more money to invest in other parts of the team. Mount is still young, staying another year isn't the end of the world.

Chelsea saw our ‘Interest in Caicedo’, and raised us ‘Bayern interest in Mount’

Yeah two of them is a possibility but there is significant price gap between Rice/Rabiot
Top clubs ain’t fighting over Rabiot… city haven’t swooped in to scoop up their annual clever bargains. We’ve pulled the plug in the same deal a year ago. There’s got to be solid reasons why this supposedly very good player is still wondering what his future holds.

The only example I remember is Luca Modric, Chelsea offered more in transfer fee to Spurs but Levy accepted a lower offer from Madrid as Levy didn't want to sell to a rival ..

So I think it's possible but not at 45m, Chelsea might accept a 45+5 from Bayern than to sell to United at 50+5

If I remember correctly it wasn't the same Window , Levy didn't sanction Modric sale to Chelsea a year prior to his move to Madrid I don't believe Chelsea even make a bid the year he moved to Madrid .

Hope we stand our ground, 55m is already too much money for Mount in his current situation. I'm fine with it if that's what it takes since ETH wants him so badly, but if Chelsea want more tell them to feck themselves. A shame I don't believe a thing about the Caicedo rumor because he would be my #1 midfield target, although a different, more attacking minded system with Mount and Bruno together would really intrigue me.

But I doubt Bayern will offer anything beyond 50m, United's offer is bigger, so Bayerns interest won't force United to offer more money.

My memory is hazy as well on that too

But I do recall Modric going for a fee lower than what Spurs could've gotten for him

I guess Mount gives you goals from midfield (or the potential for more goals from midfield) - could be an important factor if we're not going to sign a top striker this year

Yeah but that didn’t happen. He refused to sell and Madrid brought him the year after. Stuff like that happens all the time.

What we are referring to here is a club high balling a club to sell for a lower fee to someone else in the same window.

I'm sure its happened to loads of other clubs, but I was talking about us
In the summer of 1995 we only signed a reserve goal keeper. We were 20th/last in the league in total spend and also last in net spend that season (as we sold our 3 star players). We went on to win the league.
But hopefully nothing like that will happen this summer (wouldn’t mind winning the league though).

Whilst I am glad we are not bending over for Chelsea my fear is we end up signing nobody or messing around and in the end paying over the odds last minute instead

Things will get interesting if Chelsea accept less than United's offer from Bayern, but Mount rejects the move.

Kudus is not even a central midfielder. Who are the people who put the lists of targets together because Mount, Caicedo and Kudus could not be more different from each other.
Or, and it's a mad thought I know, it's utter bollocks?

No way we are paying big fees for two midfielders
I’ve seen a few posts here and tid bits online that if we make a few sales (Henderson, McT for example) then we can spend upwards of 300-400M. Think we could possibly do that.

Especially since we’re looking at Onana too at €50M
