Did we sell anyone? Big summer fire sale (supposedly)

The idea that we're bad at selling because clubs don't want to buy our deadwood is so stupid.

Clubs don't want to buy anyones deadwood. They want to buy players that have actual value to them. Who's reputations have been shattered into multiple memes going around the internet. Players who aren't obviously out of their depth. Players with some potential who they think they might add value. Those are the players that fetch money.

The trick is to sell at a point where their value is high, but you yourself have figured out you can do better anyway (based on you know having seen them in training 7 days a week). That's the bit we don't do.

Just sticking this post in here because people have this weird idea that it's easy to sell your deadwood.

Supposedly Fulham are interested but put off by our £20m asking price. Can't say I'm surprised.

That doesn't seem an outlandish figure though given prices of players these days. Unsure what his wages are like though which would obviously be considered as well.

If the roles were reversed they’d be asking for more so they can knob off.

Fred is a bargain at that price. People really need to be less emotional with their evaluations of players.

Are Fulham also being emotional with their evaluation of Freds value? He's 30, average at best, on 120k a week and has 1 year left on his contract. We'll struggle to move him on if we stay firm at that price.

Would you want him out at that price? Who can you get whose better than Fred for 30 million? No one. He's worth 30 million IMHO and I would rather keep him on a one year contract than sell him for 20 million.

He’s a regular for the Brazilian national team and a solid PL player, average at best is bollocks. Fulham would do well to bring him in for £20m. It’s about time we started commanding higher fees for our players, we can’t just let everyone go for peanuts.

The trick is to be much more adept in understanding how to market our players though - in the past, we have allowed them to become "deadwood" because we let them rot on the bench or out on daft loans.

Take Tuanzebe as a prime example, after his Villa loan, we could have easily gotten £10-15m. We should have taken the money then and gone down the buyback + release clause route. Same with Brandon Williams, post-Norwich and Dean Henderson, post-Sheff Utd.

With senior lads like DvdB or Eric Bailly, we should have identified much sooner that they were short of what was required and move them on quickly. Eric Bailly, in his prime, would have walked into most PL teams. Problem is now he's injury prone and hasn't played regular first team football for 2/3 seasons.

I am hopeful the new regime have learnt some lessons - because I think old regime were bad at selling, personally

Fred to Fulham
Beeky will stay
McT to WHUM
Maguire to WHUM
DDG on a free
Bailly on loan somewhere random
Telles to Seville for peanuts

I like Fred but Brozovic (who is world class dmc) is going for 18 mil. So around 15 mil for Fred would be good job.

At a bare minimum we need to be finding some sort of fee for Maguire and Fred. McTominay should also go as it seems like he somehow has some sale value but I'm resigned to us likely keeping him.

We are not selling anyone beyond Fred until the new owners come in and wield the proverbial scythe on our rubbish that just won't leave.

Those two (McT and Maguire) and Henderson should be first 3 to go. All 3 have value on the market and are not in ETH's plans. Keeping them as 5th or 6th choice would be stupid thing to do.

We make feck all from transfer but then we complain when we are stuck paying their wages for another 2-3 years because we can't sell them.

Its pretty simple. Either you don't pay them wages that are above their ability level or you accept that selling them is going to be hard or require you to accept lowball figures.

We have almost universally gone for the cut off your nose to spite your face approach and are left with highly paid players we don't want but can't shift.

Players I'd take offers for -
Henderson
Maguire
Fred
McTominay
Van De Beek
Martial
Sancho
Elanga

There's more like Bailly and Telles on the edges of the team but probably not worth discussing.
Some of them would be dependent on getting replacements. I'd probably be reluctant to sell McTominay without a good offer and a replacement lined up. Sancho is fishing I wouldn't expect to get an offer that makes it worthwhile. On another contract i'd probably be happy enough with him.
Henderson, Maguire, Fred and Elanga should all be manageable transfers.

We need at least a back up DM in case Casemiro need a rest or get another suspension.

The problem is we have useless sales staff. I can buy a Bmw but put me in a showroom I would be out on my ear after 2 days. If the folk in charge of United can't wrap up Telles (a Brazilian national team left back who played in the Europa league final) into a marketable asset they shouldn't be there.

Seen Rumours of Ethan Laird to a championship club for 500k

Would love to see McTom, VdB, Maguire and Martial leave this summer. Don't think there's much chance of offloading more than two of them though. My suspicion would be that Fred will be more in demand than McT, I don't think anyone will want Maguire or Martial though, and don't think they will want to go anywhere else and actually have to work for their living, so I think they stay sadly.

Bollocks, Fulham paid £12m for Pereria, they'll love a bit of Fred at £20m

They will counter with 10 and then knowing us we will meet in the middle at 5.

Besides Fred to Fulham, the other deal that seems to actually have legs is Hendo to Forest permanently for something around 20M. The hold up in actually getting this done seems to be our uncertainty over the GK position but we do run the risk of Forest moving on to another target.

Maguire should be jettisoned however we can manage it and we need to be ruthless. Take away the Captaincy and tell him he will not play 1 minute for the first team next season.

You have to consider the situation, we want rid of him, he's not looked good in a long time, the demand is just not there.

No mid table club is buying a 30 year old Fred for anything more than 12-15 mil and paying him anything even close to 120 k we are paying him.
If he was at least 5 years younger and on 50-60 k, then the situation would have been different.

Yeah, salary and age are a factor but in terms of actual quality -- Fred would easily be a top performer at a mid table side like Fulham.

Can’t we just sell some of the unwanted players to Saudi… it seems that Saudi clubs are buying everyone this summer

Let me just say this. Giving the situation the club is in ownership wise I would rather put my money on that than us actually buying somebody. Surley we could have challenged Spurs for Maddison (40 mil? that was the price for that f... Lindelof) and surley we could have given DDG (despite my opinion that we need a new GK) a one year contract? Its pretty obvious the Glazers are not going to invest before this saga is thorugh

Definitely, if Pereira can be a top performer for Fulham then so can fred
