Will you watch the Women's World Cup?

Didn't realize I had it on DAZN, so I'll probably put on some random games that are at decent times. A lot of them seem to be while I'm sleeping so I'll pass on those, and the knockouts are all while I'm in Croatia and Bosnia so unlikely to watch much there.

Can't say I have too much interest in it being honest, bit will put it on if I'm not doing much while the game is on (and it's a relatively interesting game).

Really enjoy Womens football. Worrying how many still comment on the quality.

It's not mens football, why are some so adamant about comparing them?
I cant speak for others but I'm not comparing them, I just don't think the product stands alone when they play at a similar level to that which i did.

No way. I think that low-quality football is okay if you are in the stadium (cause the atmosphere compensates for it), but it is unbearable in TV.

Yeah. I’ve always held an interest in the women’s game and used to watch Arsenal when they had Rachel Yankey.

My wife has gotten really into it and my daughter although only being 2 seems to be obsessed with watching and playing football.

I’ll support whoever faces the US and root for England too.

Not one second. Our dutch gals quit a training match the other day for it being too aggressive. Can't stand the heat stay out of the kitchen. But the news will be full of it so I guess I will see some "highlights".
it was Ireland v Colombia and it’s a weird comment to make as men’s training games have been cancelled before due to over aggression.

QPR v China for example ended up into a 50
man brawl and the match had to be abandoned

Probably not. Got no interest in the teams playing and the kick-off times are awful.

Probably not. My overall football consumption has dwindled outside of United and the Prem, and tbh the quality and pace of the game is not for me but I might watch the final if I am free.

I have absolutely zero interest in it. I think a poll here would be interesting to gauge general feeling.

It's actually the first time ever a national team of my country got into a WC. But no.

No interest whatsoever. The constant pushing it by the bbc and mainstream media in general put me off completely.

No. There are other sports I’d rather watch, but can’t find the time for all of it.

Some edgy people in here
I probably won't watch entire games but will def track the tourney progression and watch highlights. When taking in isolation women's games can be quite entertaining to me.

Ummm... It is the World Cup. The broadcasting media obviously promotes it.

Some people are so used to the over-promoting of the mens tournaments that it's just the default, they don't notice that - but the second a female tournament get 1/20th of that exposure their heads pop and they feel like it's only getting exposure because it's wokeism being stuffed down their throats.

I'm really looking forward to it, sadly the timezone means I won't be able to watch all matches.

No. As someone who’s becoming less and less invested in football as I get older (because there’s more interesting things to do after a childhood of football), I just can’t get into it. It feels like a totally different sport and it’s an inferior product of a sport I already like sadly.

The only thing I hate related to Women’s Football is the promotion of it by broadcasters and it’s historical treatment, and how for years the likes of BBC and Sky barely acknowledged it on a mainstream platform and now all of a sudden it’s treated like this hot new thing, even though WSL has been around since 2011. Where were they back then or even in the 90s? It all feels disingenuous and potentially harmful for growth in the Women’s game as they’re at the mercy of these broadcasters who could market it in a way that makes people not want to watch it, such as excessively and aggressively advertising it.

Maybe the final, otherwise the standard and quality is just way too low, like lower than league 2 low.

I think the people annoyed by the advertising of this event are people would never watch it anyway, so no loss at all.

Nah.

Really pleased to see the game growing and a new generation of young girls being inspired by these events but I personally have no interest in the game.

It’s like asking me if I will be watching the Ashes. I have no interest in that sport and for me, Women’s football is an entirely different sport when compared with Men’s.

I will probably watch some matches due to betting purposes. I've watched far less entertaining matches in the Portuguese league with ultra defensive schemes and boring 0-0 so I don't mind some women's football tbh.

I'd probably have a few of the games running on the side, but these woke kickoff times the MSM keep pushing on people will probably make that too inconvenient.

Well I just broke my ankle / tibia on Saturday and in a boots with orders to completely rest it and not to stand on it until I have the op in two weeks time, after which I'll be in a cast or boot for 6-8 weeks.

I was going to watch some of the matches anyway but looks like i'll be in it watching most of them now
That’s shit. I had a terrible ankle/tibia break 5 weeks ago. First 2 weeks in hospital with external fixation and then had the operation 3 weeks ago. I still have 3 more weeks minimum before I can put any weight on the foot, and will have to use crutches for 3 more months minimum. Hope you were/are luckier than me, I had a really bad one, and will be lucky to heal close to 100%.

Your last point makes no sense - increased marketing will only lead to more viewers and more money for the Women's game, blatantly obvious that it isn't harmful for the game

And WSL only went pro in 2018 (same year MU Women was re-established) which is a big factor in the increased public interest and media support

Nah. There's already to much football and of people are honest with themselves, watching one professional nation humiliate what is basically a group of amateurs by ridiculous scorelines just isn't entertaining.

Having looked at the first round of fixtures and then seeing some of the sides previous results, there will be quite a few blood baths.

The overall level is low but I understand it is trying to improve and I hope it does. But the gap between the top few and everyone else is enormous, far bigger than in the men's game.

Because of this I do think there is a real possibility that rather than the level of the game rise overall, it could actually damage the women's game in the long term as more and more nations get left behind. Allowing the game to grow more naturally might have been a better, though far longer road to follow.

I see some people saying this, could you explain why?
The difference in physical attributes means there are some differences which changes the dynamics of the game. Strength differences mean there are differences in what happens in contact situations, there are differences in changes of direction and changes of pace due to the extra power men have when accelerating or stopping. The aerial aspect of the game is less developed at this point. Skill moves are a bit slower when performed and so exiting a skill move looks difference. By that I dont mean fancy tricks but simple changes of direction or feints to create space for passes have a different pace and movement. All largely down to the less explosive physical attributes women have.
Its a bit like the differences in mens and womens tennis, they look like slightly different games and thats mostly because of the physical differences changing the dynamics of how the game is played.
Technically women have been improving at a very fast rate over the last 20 years because of the growth of the womens game and improved coaching at grass roots level of girls.

Nothing weird about it. It wasn't a 50 men brawl that stopped the match. It was typical female weakness where when they don't like something they throw their toys out of the pram and go home while crying about the unfairness of it all and how they need to be treated better. And get more money. I'm not supporting that.
I've seen Diego Maradonna being assulted every step of the way and he got on with it, many many examples like that. That I can get behind.
When those men's games get cancelled for agression the agression is real. This was nothing.

The time makes it tricky but on the whole I enjoyed the Euro's so will watch what I can.
The Women's game is coming on nicely and although slower is still good viewing if you see the better teams. I think England were in with a shot until the injuries.
There (for the moment) seems to be less theatrics when they get tackled unlike the ridiculous over acting in the men's game.

Women’s football is becoming big business, the increasing attention from broadcasters and media natural.

Wasn't it Ireland - Colombia that was cancelled? Didn't see that mentioned for the Netherlands. Here's a news report on that match:

https://www.espn.com/soccer/story/_/id/38009307/ireland-wwc-warm-match-called-overly-physical-play
You are right it's the dutch coach that irked me. I lumped that together with our ladies I guess because they are all dutch football female representatives and none have yet to make an impression on me. They want it to succeed so badly it's becoming a joke because no criticism possible and cheering all the way. Then I get critical and when you open your eyes what you see ain't good. But I did not pay attention commenting so I'm not coming out of this smelling like roses either.

Must say I am a bit disappointed with some of the misogyny in the comments here. I'll readily admit I make jokes about the other gender sometimes but I think some of what I read in here seems particularly low.

These women are still professional athletes and their side of the sport has made great strides in gaining ground. So much so that I have seen many girls/daughters/women having gotten interested in playing themselves and in turn they also get more interested in the men's side of footie. And honestly that is great to me. Even my wife who never gave a crap about the sport suddenly is much more aware of when I'm following United and other clubs and matches. And I think a lot of that is down to the women's teams as some sort of a gateway drug.

And hey, level of play blah blah aside - I can appreciate the women not rolling on the ground at every contact.

I have tickets to 3 games so far and then will go to one or 2 of the knock out games once they are known.

I forgot it was on to be honest or at least started tomorrow. Surprised people are bothered by the promotion of it when I forgot the World Cup was happening.

Like with the Euros, I’ll keep an eye on it and see how it goes.
