Nowhere near as good as the media makes out. He's a good player. Let's not go crazy here
So only the media watches him play? As far as I'm concerned, he's an excellent football player and a very smart winger. There's a reason 10/10 coaches tell their players to double up on him. I question modern football fans understanding of the game sometimes.

“2 years of patience”

Sums up how ridiculous the critique of him has been. He’s played under the disaster of Ole and Ralf. It was well documented last season he was dealing with personal issues, the Alli situation ought to have provided some perspective, I suppose not. Perhaps this is the season to finally shut down the critics and play to his potential. I sincerely hope he serves up some crow to the doubters.
There are two separate things to understand here. 1) How did he perform and 2) how was he in a personal way. We can only objectively comment on the first and trying to sympathetically understand the second. They can mutually exist.

Based on his performances, the critique has been largely justified. He's had plenty of games under Ole/Ralf and was well protected and handled by ETH with a mid-season break. He was then introduced back to the season with plenty of games and appearances, yet unfortunately he still didn't deliver on a bare minimum status. The conditions of his time here was experienced by everyone in the squad; it's not unique to him.

If you think he's had unjust criticising, you need to look at every single player's performance threads for the past 2 years because it's not that different in context.

Anyone else feel sanchos looked a little more explosive pace wise? A few times he’s burst forward looking a lot quicker.

Meant are Havertz and Rice on the bench? Not watching
Oh i thought it was sarcasm. No they are very much playing but have both been awful.

Havertz has been completely diffused he's barely even had the ball.

Rice has been completely overrun in midfield.

It's pre season.. so not much to read into.

Where exactly are they playing Havertz?

Also, Arsenal look a bit soft at the top..

Keep a clean shit tomorrow, United is my final bus
Arsenal have been poor. We've done decent at times. AWB and Mainoo good. Sancho again looking a bit sharper but still got plenty more in his locker. Garnacho barely involved, touched it twice in the first half? Rice and Havertz equally as quiet for them. Two big mistakes from them for the goals.

Does mount always drop so deep?

Can't say I ever noticed it at Chelsea but he seems to be going very deep this pre season.
Rarely for us, but we always played a back 3 so he was rarely used in midfield for us the way Ten Hag is using him. He was an 8/10 throughout the age groups at youth level, but he was kinda mostly a square peg in a round hole in our back 3 system. Speaks volumes about his quality, attitude and versatility that he still won back to back POTY despite being shoved all over the pitch in unfamiliar roles. I think he’s gonna need time to relearn, if you will, his original position.

A mini meltdown over Licha winning the ball too. God forbid someone actually leaves one in on Saka, rather than him just rolling around, they’d explode.

  • Garnacho - laughably invisible, barely touched the ball. It's fine though
  • Sancho - class, they can't deal with him and he looks far more talented than anyone else on the pitch. Ball glued to his feet and showed good pace
  • Antony - can't finish or do things in the box, but works hard and keeps the ball well.
  • Bruno - quality, just an end product machine
  • Mount - very sharp on the ball, press resistant, very good defensively too
  • Mainoo - looks at home among everyone else. Comfortable on the ball, very mature defensively, physically he has so much more to grow but is already very strong
  • Shaw, Martinez, Varane, Wan bissaka - all so good. After a year together I think we'll see them step up further.
  • Heaton - very good performance!

If it were other way around, this place would be in meltdown too.

Pre-season or not, they’ve been 2nd best throughout against a team that are a little behind them in terms of pre-season preparation which is a worrying sign.

That’s almost a full strength Arsenal line up and they’ve started their US pre-season ahead of us.
2-0 is better than I expected.
No taking the foot off the gas now.
How ETG sends the 2nd half players out will be a test of our collective mentality.
No half assing from Rashford.

"You and your paper can feck off."
Denis Irwin on MUTV. Brings back some happy memories, what a defender.
Met him during the pre-season after he signed for Wolves when they played my local non-league team. Brilliantly humble and was having none of me describing him as the best full back the Premier League had ever seen whilst he was signing autographs at the tunnel, including the back of my United shirt. Well, until I looked at the autograph when I got home that night and it read 'You've got immaculate taste in fullbacks"

Arsenal fans probably think they will tear us apart with their 200m addition of Rice, Havertz and Timber. All 3 have been very poor so far.

They will find next season much tougher than the last.
